The National Autonomous University of México (UNAM) through its Peninsular Center in Humanities and in Social Studies and UNAM-Canadá is pleased to invite you to its Spanish Immersion Program, CEPHCIS, UNAM 2016 From 13 to February 3, 2017 The Spanish immersion program for Canadian exchange students focuses on the practice of the language in complete immersion. Each course corresponds with the participant s assessment report and consists of 45 hours of Spanish with a native, local teacher. In addition, students will have 24 hours of courses related to Mexican culture which include 6 hours of practical exercises to reinforce weekly acquisition. The program will offer three visits/tours to sites of interest in the region: a) Izamal, a colonial city considered by UNESCO a Magical Village (http://www.pueblosmexico.com.mx/pueblo_mexico_ficha.php?id_rubrique=346); b) The archaeological site of Chichen Itzá (http://chichenitza.inah.gob.mx/), one of the new Wonders of the World; c) Hacienda Sotuta de Peon (http://www.haciendaviva.com/), where the importance of sisal for regional history can be appreciated. These tours will be organized by the CEPHCIS (tour guides, entrance fees, transportation) and although they are included in the cost of the program, participation in them is voluntary.
Participants will have the opportunity to be hosted by local families or, if preferred, to search for their own accommodation in hotels or apartments. Upon arrival they will receive an introductory briefing about CEHPCIS facilities, informing them on the city and details about the program. There will then be a welcoming reception. At the end of the program, participants will receive a record of the studies pursued and will be able to share their experience with their teachers and hosting families at a farewell gathering.
