(U) Basic Narrative a. The crew of JOHN L HALL began 2001 in a holiday leave and standdown period. Standdown ended and all hands were onboard 10 January. b. A CMS Inspection, consisting of an inspection of the Electronic Key Management System, was completed on 11 January. JOHN L HALL was evaluated as Satisfactory by COMDESRON SIX. c. Installation of IT21 (Information Technology for the 21st Century) was completed onboard JOHN L HALL on 8 February. IT21 is a fleet-driven reprioritization of command, control, communications, computers, and intelligence programs of record to accelerate the transition to a PC-based tactical/non-tactical support war-fighting network. d. From 4 February to 2 March, JOHN L HALL conducted much needed repairs with SIMA during an Intermediate Maintenance Availability (IMAV).

e. On 16 February JOHN L HALL got underway for FEP (Final Evaluation Period) and to participate in a Groupsail with the USS THOMAS S GATES and the USS STEPHEN W GROVES. JOHN L HALL successfully completed FEP and expertly conducted DIVTACS (maneuvering exercises) and Leapfrogs during Groupsail. f. On 23 February JOHN L HALL returned to homeport Pascagoula, MS and was inport until 22 March. g. On 22 March JOHN L HALL got underway enroute to Mayport, FL in order to participate in SNFL 2001. JOHN L HALL joined SNFL (Standing Naval Forces Atlantic) 27 March while inport Mayport, FL. h. On 1 April JOHN L HALL got underway as the only United States ship in this significant multi-national NATO force. JOHN L HALL participated in several major international exercises conducted by SNFL, including SWORDFISH 01, BLUE GAME 01, and MARWIKA 01. Enclosure (1) is an exercise brief explaining the details of BLUE GAME 01. Enclosure (2) is a sample message summarizing an air defense exercise conducted by SNFL. i. JOHN L HALL also operated with the Polish and Lithuanian navies in Exercise COOPERATIVE OCEAN. j. The ship and crew of JOHN L HALL further represented the United States during multiple international port visits in Lisbon, Portugal; Plymouth, England; Aarhus, Denmark; Wilhelmshaven, Germany; Stavanger, Norway; Oslo, Norway; Kiel, Germany; Klaipeda, Lithuania; Gydinia, Poland; and Den Helder, Netherlands. k. From 13-16 July, while inport Gydinia, Poland, JOHN L HALL supplied assistance to the Polish Navy training and troubleshooting various combat systems issues aboard the ORP GENERAL K PULASKI (F-272). Enclosure (3) is a message regarding this assistance. 1. On 6 August JOHN L HALL got underway from Den Helder, Netherlands, detaching from Standing Naval Forces Atlantic (SNFIJ). m. On 10 August JOHN L HALL made a BSF visit (brief stop for fuel) in the Azores.

n. On 15 August JOHN L HALL made a BSF visit (brief stop for fuel) in Bermuda. o. On 17 August JOHN L HALL arrived in Mayport, FL in order to refuel and embark TIGER CRUISE participants. p. On 18 August JOHN L HALL got underway to conduct TIGER CRUISE during transit back to Pascagoula, MS. Fifty civilian guests sailed with JOHN L HALL to participate in the TIGER CRUISE, which included weapons demonstrations and a full power run. q. On 21 August JOHN L HALL returned from deployment, arriving in homeport Pascagoula, MS. Enclosure (4) is the JOHN L HA.LL Post Deployment Report. Enclosures (5), (6), and (7) are messages regarding Performance on Deployment. r. In response to the terrorist attacks of 11 September, JOHN L HALL conducted an emergency recall of the crew, the majority of which was on post-deployment leave. On 14 September JOHN L HALL got underway in order to participate in Operation NOBLE EAGLE, setting up an offshore radar defense station and monitoring air traffic in order to prevent further terrorist attacks against the United States. On 19 September JOHN L HALL proceeded back to homeport Pascagoula, MS in order to stand by for further tasking in support of Operation NOBLE EAGLE. Enclosure (8) is an Operation NOBLE EAGLE After Action message. s. On 28 September JOHN L HALL got underway enroute to Yorkt:own, VA in order to conduct an ammunition offload. The offload was completed safely and on time 3-5 October. Enclosure (9) is the JOHN L HALL Ammunition Offload Plan and Safety Precautions. t. On 11 October JOHN L HALL returned to homeport Pascagoula, MS. u. On 15 October JOHN L HALL got underway enroute Mobile, AL for an SRA period (Selected Restricted Availability) in Bender Shipyard. v. On 6-7 December JOHN L HALL successfully completed Ready for Sea Assessment. Enclosure (10) is the Navigation Assessment.
