MEETING POINT Armenian volunteers of your camp will meet you at the airport only in case if your arrival time is between 8:00-24:00 and will take you to the camp. Please buy tickets long before the planned date of your flight in order to catch cheap tickets. If your arrival time is after midnight, you will have to look for a bus to the center of Yerevan or take a taxi to the workcamp. After sending your application and being accepted to the workcamp, you will soon receive an email from your camp leader, please reply promptly. VISA Visa-free regime for EU and CIS citizens. The updated list of countries not needing visa to enter Armenia is available here: http://mfa.am/en/visa WORK All our camps have become traditional. Types of the works are renovational, ecological, cultural, aesthetic work with children. The work is expected to be interesting and various. ACCOMMODAYTION AND FOOD Do not worry about sleeping bags, as you will stay in buildings/cottages of the hosting organizations where you will be provided with beds/mattresses and bedding packs. In Armenian camps you are to be disciplined and organized. Making beds and keeping the rooms neat and clean every day is obligatory. Volunteers will prepare the food by themselves. You will taste all kinds of Armenian traditional food, such as dolma, khorovats (barbecue), kiabab, khashlama, incomparable fruits of Ararat Valley - apricots, grapes, peaches, apples, berries etc. and vegetables. NB: LEISURE TIME Armenia is called an open-air museum. You will have lots of interesting excursions and visits to historical monuments and museums, which will be organized during the workcamp. The excursions to the following sights will be organized upon the decision of the camp. The proposed list of the excursions is the following (all the visits are for free): Echmiadzin Mother 2

Cathedral, Zvartnots Cathedral ruins, Garni Pagan Temple, Geghard Monastery Complex with a program of PATRIMONITO, Lake Sevan (with a barbecue on the beach). Volunteers will visit Matenadaran-storehouse of ancient manuscripts, Historical Museum of Armenia, National Gallery of Armenia, museum of famous film director S. Parajanov, Vernissage Armenian big souvenirs market under the open sky and degustation in cognac factory. Different games, Armenian dancing and language lessons will be organized in the workcamp. Leisure time for joint workcamps are different for every camp. WHAT TO BRING WITH YOU It is very important to bring with you different table games, songbooks, children song CDs to work with children and for using in the performances/concerts to be organized on the last day of the workcamp. During the workcamp volunteers will organize the Intercultural day when each volunteer shall present his/her country, so please bring photos and booklets describing your country, recipes of national dishes, products and spices to prepare it and national songs. You can bring your music instruments, CDs with your favorite national songs and music and, of course, your high spirit and your creativity. Representation of HUJ: Voluntary Service of Armenia Republican Headquarters of Student Brigades (HUJ) was founded in 1965 and is registered as a non-governmental organization. HUJ is a member of the Coordinating Committee of International Voluntary Service (CCIVS) at UNESCO and the Alliance of European Voluntary Service organizations. HUJ organizes volunteer exchanges with 120 partner organizations abroad and holds a database of 3000 volunteers registered in HUJ as of today. The main activities run by HUJ are for and with volunteers, mainly the young people. The regular activities of organization include exchange of volunteers with different organizations, opening international workcamps in Armenia, preparation and sending volunteers to different trainings and seminars, as well as EVS, weltwarts and other long-term projects. The essential aims of the organization are to raise the social competences and employability of the youth by organizing activities for national and foreign volunteers in various programs in Armenia (workcamps, training courses, medium and long-term projects) as well as facilitating the participation of local and national volunteers in similar projects abroad; to take care of orphans, children with special needs and socially indigent people by proposing activities to and for them and making them more visible for local, national and international communities. 3

HUJ 1 SOS KINDERDORF Abovyan Dates: 04 June 17 July, 2018 KIDS/ENVI Nr. of participants: 14 volunteers SOS Children s Village, Abovyan The SOS Children s Village is a place where children particularly those with no parental care and those whose families are living in difficult conditions have found their new mothers, sisters and brothers and live in families. It is situated in the Province Kotayk, 15km from Yerevan, where 6-7 children live in separate cottages with their SOS mothers. The SOS Children's Village family-like structure is formed by four basic principles: mother, siblings, house and village. The camp in SOS Children s village is organized for the 14th time and has become a popular and traditional one, and children are looking forward to meeting the volunteers in summer. The volunteers will do environmental and renovation work on the territory. The further details will be provided at the time of the workcamp. Volunteers will participate in most activities with the children, performing a variety of different tasks. They will organize workshops - painting, sculpturing, handicrafts, dancing, singing, sports, language lessons, leisure time games. The main aim of the camp is organization of a concert or a performance and an exhibition of works which will be presented at the end. The concert/performance will be organized with the active participation of the children and the volunteers, making an interesting presentation of the national songs, dances, traditions of each country the volunteers come from. Volunteers will live in a separate comfortable cottage on the territory of the village. HUJ 2 HOPESHINE Dates: 17 July 30 July, 2018 RENO/ENVI Nr. of participants: 14 volunteers Yerevan Special School N 14 The special school for visually impaired children was established in 1939 in Yerevan. This school is the only one in Armenia where the education is organized using the Braille system. Most of the children stay in the school during the terms and return home only for holidays. The school gives children secondary and specialized education. In 2014-2016 volunteers renovated classrooms and bowers. During the workcamp the children will be on holidays and the volunteers will be alone in the school building. The aim of this workcamp is the renovation of classrooms in the school and maintenance of the territory. Volunteers will stay in the dormitories of the school. HUJ 3 ZVARTNOTS CATHEDRAL Dates: 11 July 24 July, 2018 World Heritage/CULT Nr. of participants: 14 volunteers Zvartnots Cathedral The workcamp is organized within the frameworks of World Heritage Volunteers Initiative launched by UNESCO World Heritage Centre and Coordinating Committee for International Voluntary Service (CCIVS). One of the main goals of the project is to raise awareness about the necessity to protect, preserve and promote cultural and natural heritage in general and the inscribed or potential World Heritage sites in particular. Zvartnots was built in the middle of the 7th century. This architectural masterpiece is a monument which embodies the centuries-long traditions of Armenian architecture. Unfortunately, Zvartnots has survived only in ruins, as it was completely destroyed by a powerful earthquake in the 10th century. However, even the ruins of this temple give us the idea of its rare and majestic beauty. The major objective of the workcamp is to preserve this historical site for the future generations, to keep it in worthy conditions to allow the visitors to be spiritually enriched and to contemplate the beauty and the splendour of this monument, to support the staff of the Museum of the Zvartnots Cathedral in matters of maintaining the territory and fulfilling different types of work necessary in the particular moment. Activities for the volunteers are as follows: Maintenance of the territory - removing the over-grown grass, weeds. National sounds of Zvartnots learning Armenian national dances, songs. Cultural program My impressions about World Heritage. Power point presentations of the volunteers on their impressions and feelings about the project and plans for the future. Presentation of the countries the volunteers come from, and of the UNESCO World Heritage Objects existing there. Guest house on the territory of the Cathedral. HUJ 4 SMILE TO TREAT Dates: 18 July 31 August, 2018 KIDS/DISA/ENVI Nr. of participants: 14 volunteers Republican Paediatric Rehabilitation Centre, Yerevan The Centre is situated not far from the center of Yerevan, next to the artificial Lake Yerevan. The territory of the Rehabilitation Center is former Governmental rest house. The camp will be opened for the 24 rd time and is already a popular and traditional one. Every year the children, who receive their treatment here, look forward to meeting the volunteers in summer. Volunteers bring a lot of ideas, spirit, love, warmth, kindness, and make the stay of the children in this Center a great holiday. They make these children feel that they are needed, full-valued and help them to reveal their talents and abilities. The aim of this workcamp is organization of the leisure time of children with disabilities that receive their treatment in this Centre and environmental work on the territory. Volunteers day will begin with environmental work: maintaining the territory, cleaning children s playground from weeds and grass, painting and some renovation work. After the children finish their therapy, volunteers will join them to draw, sculpture, sing and dance, do physical training, play games. At the end of the camp volunteers and children will organize a farewell concert. Volunteers will stay in a separate cottage on the territory of the Rehabilitation Center and sleep in beds. Special requirements: Volunteers are asked to bring different games and face-paint for the work with children. HUJ 5 BOTANICAL GARDEN Dates: 12 August 25 August, 2018 ENVI/ECO Nr. of participants: 14 volunteers National Botanical Garden, Yerevan The Botanical Garden is situated in the north-eastern part of Yerevan, occupying the territory of 80 hectares. We are opening a workcamp here for the 12 th time already. The Botanical Garden of the National Academy of Science is responsible for plant collections in Armenia. It holds rich herbarium of different species and shrubs. The collection of Armenian flora includes around 200 species and provides a basis for its study, and the ecological interactions of species, in a relatively natural environment. The camp will be opened for the 12 th time and is already a popular and traditional one The main aim of this camp is to perform a variety of environmental maintenance activities: taking care of area of the Garden, cleaning the paths, taking out the weeds, cultivating the trees, preparing the trees for planting, cleaning the territory, etc. The staff of the Botanical Garden will make a presentation for volunteers on environment and nature. Volunteers will live in a separate building on the territory of the Botanical Garden. They will be provided with mats and beds. Living conditions are basic. HUJ 6 SOS KINDERDORF Ijevan Armenian- German (HUJ-IJGD weltwaerts vol) Dates: 12 June 25 July, 2018 KIDS/ENVI Nr. of participants: 12 volunteers SOS Children s village, Ijevan It is situated in the region of Tavush, 143 km from Yerevan. The SOS Children s Village is a place where children particularly those with no parental care and those whose families have to live in difficult conditions have found their new mothers, sisters and brothers and live in families. 6-7 children live in separate cottages with their SOS mothers. The SOS Children's Village family-like structure is formed by four basic principles: mother, siblings, house and village. Volunteers will participate in most activities with the children performing a variety of different tasks: They will organize workshops - painting, sculpturing, handicrafts, dancing, singing, sports, language lessons, leisure time games. Volunteers will live in a comfortable cottage on the territory of the village. 11

HUJ 7 Work and Smile Armenian-Belgian Dates: 03 July 16 July, 2018 KIDS/ENVI/CULT /French Nr. of participants: 17 volunteers Yerevan Mkhitar Sebastatsi educational complex Mkhitar Sebastatsi Educomplex implements public education with alternative author educational programs at pre-schools, primary schools, a middle school and a high school. The transparent educational environment adjusted and appropriate to children s age groups, swimming pools, pottery clubs, horse riding fields, bike tracks, playgrounds and group rooms, music and theatre studios, the use of interactive boards and other digital means, the use of games. The work of volunteers will include apricot gathering, gardening, farming, school playgrounds designing, painting of school external and internal walls with signs in different languages and graffiti. The volunteers will also implement different activities with children: working with clues in pottery club, visiting horse riding club, organization of interactive games, different sport competitions, like cycling, chess, checkers, football, basketball, table tennis, beach volleyball. Volunteers together with children will prepare a grand concert-performance both in French and Armenian, which will be based on a literary work for children. They will also hold rehearsals, make decorations together with children. The concerts and performances will be presented in the school concert hall and theatre. Volunteers will live in the school guesthouse with 4- bedded rooms 12

HUJ 8 TUMO (For EVS volunteers) Dates: 11 June 05 August, 2018 KIDS / CULT Nr. of participants: 17 volunteers Tumo Center for Creative Technologies The Tumo Center for Creative Technologies is a free of charge digital media learning center in Yerevan, Armenia. Since its opening in 2011, the center has provided thousands of students aged 12 18 an open environment where they can use the latest in digital tools, learn from media professionals, and explore the intersection of technology and art. The camp will be opened for the 2 nd time. The volunteer will do administrative, cultural and entertaining work. They have to solve problems if it exist, helping children. If they don t understand their coaches to translate their lessons, guiding them in the city and in Armenia showing and telling different and interesting things. HUJ 9 ZVARTNOTS CATHEDRAL 2 HUJ-VolTra Dates: April World Heritage/CULT Nr. of participants: 14 volunteers Zvartnots Cathedral The workcamp is organized within the frameworks of World Heritage Volunteers Initiative launched by UNESCO World Heritage Centre and Coordinating Committee for International Voluntary Service (CCIVS). One of the main goals of the project is to raise awareness about the necessity to protect, preserve and promote cultural and natural heritage in general and the inscribed or potential World Heritage sites in particular. Zvartnots was built in the middle of the 7th century. This architectural masterpiece is a monument which embodies the centuries-long traditions of Armenian architecture. Unfortunately, Zvartnots has survived only in ruins, as it was completely destroyed by a powerful earthquake in the 10th century. However, even the ruins of this temple give us the idea of its rare and majestic beauty. The major objective of the workcamp is to preserve this historical site for the future generations, to keep it in worthy conditions to allow the visitors to be spiritually enriched and to contemplate the beauty and the splendour of this monument, to support the staff of the Museum of the Zvartnots Cathedral in matters of maintaining the territory and fulfilling different types of work necessary in the particular moment. Activities for the volunteers are as follows: Maintenance of the territory - removing the over-grown grass, weeds. National sounds of Zvartnots learning Armenian national dances, songs. Cultural program My impressions about World Heritage. Power point presentations of the volunteers on their impressions and feelings about the project and plans for the future. Taking part in making traditional Armenian bread 'lavash' in tonir ; opportunity to make bread for yourself. Armenian language lesson, learning common words and phrases. Teaching on how to make traditional Armenian dolma. Armenian dance lesson with professional dance teacher. Teaching of methods on how to prepare marinade - (basturma) meat for barbecue making barbeque on the beach. Voluntary environmental program in territory of Geghard monastery, volunteering work - in the territory of Zvartnots. Cleaning beach next to Sevan lake. Participants will stay in a 3-star hotel 2 people per room with all facilities in the center of Yerevan, overlooking the picturesque ravine of the Hrazdan River and above mentioned. Leisure time The excursions is the following: Echmiadzin Mother Cathedral, Zvartnots Cathedral ruins, Garni Pagan Temple, Geghard Monastery Complex with a program of PATRIMONITO, Lake Sevan (with a barbecue on the beach). Joint project to choose HUJ 11 ZATIK Dates: 17 July - 30 July, 2018 KIDS/RENO Nr. of participants: 17 volunteers Yerevan Child Care and Support Centre ZATIK. Zatik is located in Yerevan. This year the camp in this venue will be organized for the 13 th time. During the workcamp volunteers will organize different workshops with children, where they can draw, sculpture, dance, sing, and organize sport games and other things according to the talents and abilities of the volunteers. Volunteers together with children shall present a national song, dance or perform a scene, showing their country s culture and traditions. The tasks of the volunteers are as follows: in the morning they will be involved in some renovation work on the territory of the centre, in the afternoon: aesthetic education of children and preparation of the final concert. Volunteers are asked to bring CDs with national songs and a developed idea on his/her own part of the concert/performance. Volunteers will stay in separate part of Support Centre with all leaving conditions and sleep on mats. This school is the only one in Armenia where the education is organized using the Braille system. Most of the children stay in the school during the terms and return home only for holidays. The school gives children secondary and specialized education. In 2014-2016 volunteers renovated classrooms and bowers. During the work camp the children will be on holidays and the volunteers will be alone in the school building. The aim of this workcamp is renovation of classrooms in the school and maintenance of the territory. Volunteers will stay in the dormitories of the school. Joint project to choose HUJ 14 Dates: Nr. of participants: BOTANICAL GARDEN 2 27 August 09 September, 2018 ENVI/ECO 14 volunteers National Botanical Garden, Yerevan The Botanical Garden is situated in the north-eastern part of Yerevan, occupying the territory of 80 hectares. We are opening a workcamp here for the 12th time already. The Botanical Garden of the National Academy of Science is responsible for plant collections in Armenia. It holds rich herbarium of different species and shrubs. The collection of Armenian flora includes around 200 species and provides a basis for its study, and the ecological interactions of species, in a relatively natural environment. The camp will be opened for the 12th time and is already a popular and traditional one The main aim of this camp is to perform a variety of environmental maintenance activities: taking care of area of the Garden, cleaning the paths, taking out the weeds, cultivating the trees, preparing the trees for planting, cleaning the territory, etc. The staff of the Botanical Garden will make a presentation for volunteers on environment and nature. Volunteers will live in a separate building on the territory of the Botanical Garden. They will be provided with mats and beds. Living conditions are basic. Joint project to choose HUJ 15 SMILE TO TREAT 2 Dates: 03 July 16 July, 2018 KIDS/DISA/ENVI Nr. of participants: 17 volunteers Republican Paediatric Rehabilitation Centre, Yerevan The Centre is situated not far from the center of Yerevan, next to the artificial Lake Yerevan. The territory of the Rehabilitation Center is former Governmental rest house. The camp will be opened for the 24 rd time and is already a popular and traditional one. Every year the children, who receive their treatment here, look forward to meeting the volunteers in summer. Volunteers bring a lot of ideas, spirit, love, warmth, kindness, and make the stay of the children in this Center a great holiday. They make these children feel that they are needed, full-valued and help them to reveal their talents and abilities. The aim of this workcamp is organization of the leisure time of children with disabilities that receive their treatment in this Centre and environmental work on the territory. Volunteers day will begin with environmental work: maintaining the territory, cleaning children s playground from weeds and grass, painting and some renovation work. After the children finish their therapy, volunteers will join them to draw, sculpture, sing and dance, do physical training, play games. At the end of the camp volunteers and children will organize a farewell concert. Volunteers will stay in a separate cottage on the territory of the Rehabilitation Center and sleep in beds. Joint project to choose HUJ 17 SOS KINDERDORF Abovyan 2 Dates: 12 August 25 August, 2018 KIDS/ENVI Nr. of participants: 14 volunteers SOS Children s Village, Abovyan The SOS Children s Village is a place where children particularly those with no parental care and those whose families have to live in difficult conditions have found their new mothers, sisters and brothers and live in families. It is situated in the Province Kotayk, 15km from Yerevan, where 6-7 children live in separate cottages with their SOS mothers. The SOS Children's Village family-like structure is formed by four basic principles: mother, siblings, house and village. The camp in SOS Children s village is organized for the 14th time and has become a popular and traditional one, and children are looking forward to meeting the volunteers in summer. The volunteers will do environmental and renovation work on the territory. The further details will be provided at the time of the workcamp. Volunteers will participate in most activities with the children, performing a variety of different tasks. They will organize workshops - painting, sculpturing, handicrafts, dancing, singing, sports, language lessons, leisure time games. The main aim of the camp is organization of a concert or a performance and an exhibition of works which will be presented at the end. The concert/performance will be organized with the active participation of the children and the volunteers, making an interesting presentation of the national songs, dances, traditions of each country the volunteers come from. There are 650 pupils studying in this school. The main aim of the workcamp is ecological-renovation work on the territory of the school. Volunteers will stay in the school. They will be provided with beds. The details of this workcamp will be discussed with the partner organization. 23

Diaspora workcamp HUJ 19 OLYMPOS Dates: 18 July 31 July, 2018 RENO/ENVI Nr. of participants: 20 volunteers Olympos Educational Center, Yerevan There are still many educational centers in Armenia that need partly renovation. One of such centers is Olympos built in 1950 at one of the most beautiful places of Yerevan in Old Nork. The centre has a beautiful park zone since the date of its establishment, which occupies the territory and has fruit gardens, playgrounds, and covered swimming pool that need special care and renovation. People, who graduated from this center or those who are still attending it, as well as local population, are proud of Olympos. The administration of the Center does its best to organize students leisure time, give them an ecological education and teach them to love the Nature. The main aim is to perform the following tasks: Maintenance of territory Painting the benches and pavilions The accommodation of the volunteers is planned to be in several rooms of school dormitory, situated on the territory of the center. 24

Diaspora workcamp HUJ 20 LAVANDA Dates: 07 July 20 July 2018 ENVI/ECO Nr. of participants: 15 volunteers Sevan lake beach called Lavanda city Lake Sevan is the largest body of water in Armenia and the Caucasus region. It is one of the largest freshwater high-altitude lakes in Eurasia. The lake is situated in the central part of Armenia, in the Gegharkunik Marz, at the altitude of 1,900 meters above sea level. The total surface area of its basin is about 5,000 sq. km, which makes up 1/6 of Armenia's territory. The aim of this workcamp is environmental and ecological work on the territory of the beach. Lavanda beach has a very big territory, yet it has very important role in eco-structure of Sevan Lake and the maintenance of the territory is important. That is why volunteers are asked for support in recovering the nature after construction work. Volunteers will stay in comfortable rooms of the rest house.
