Accommodation: SunSquare Cape Town City Bowl Day 2-2 September 2018 CAPE TOWN (B, D) Today is free to explore Cape Town or take one of the optional tours. There are three choices - a half day city tour, with visits to Signal Hill, the City Hall, the Castle of Good Hope and the South African Cultural History Museum; a trip up Table mountain itself, with spectacular 360 views, or the Cape Point full day tour featuring one of the world s most spectacular drives, taking in Hout Bay, Chapman s Peak, Noordhoek Beach, the Cape Point Nature Reserve, Boulders Penguin Colony, Simonstown, Kalk Bay and Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens. Featuring long sandy beaches and an old town packed with plenty of historic attractions, the area has come a long way since its days as a little fishing village. Accommodation: Garden Court Mossel Bay Day 4-4 September 2018 KYNSNA (B, D) After breakfast, we travel overland via the spectacular Outeniqua Pass to Oudtshoorn, known as the feather capital of the world because of its ostrich industry. We visit a working ostrich farm and then explore the famous Cango Caves. The spectacular caves are a subterranean wonderland of magnificent stalactite and stalagmite rock formations that extend more than two kilometres into the Swartberg Mountains. Our guided tour winds through narrow passageways and steep stairways linking the massive caverns. Next we head towards the beautiful city of Kynsna. Nestled between the imposing Outeniqua Mountains and the Indian Ocean, Knysna features a beautiful lagoon, more than eight beaches and various markets, as well as a wealth of mountains, valleys, lakes, forests and streams all ready to be explored. AND VICTORIA FALLS Day 5-5 September 2018 PORT ELIZABETH (B, D) Today we make our way to Port Elizabeth. En route we visit the Tsitsikamma Forest and the Storms River Mouth, offering some magnificent views of the gorge and river below. Known as both the Friendly City and the Windy City, Port Elizabeth was established to accommodate British settlers who were bought out on a government sponsored programme to provide a buffer between the warring Cape Dutch and the Xhosa. The little port grew from there and today it is the gateway to the Garden Route, as well as the Eastern Cape s game reserves and beaches. Accommodation: Garden Court King s Beach Day 6-6 September 2018 EASTERN CAPE (B, D) This morning we continue to the Eastern Cape entering the fourth of the provinces and the birthplace of Nelson Mandela (fondly known as Madiba). The Eastern Cape is endowed with some of the best beaches in South Africa long stretches of fine white sand backed by hills blanketed with lush subtropical vegetation and, for the most part, 18 DAY SOLOS TOUR - SEPTEMBER 2018 blissfully uncrowded. The Indian Ocean waters that fringe this coast are mild throughout the year and support a myriad of marine life, including a wide array of fish species that make the region an angler s idyll. South Africa s most legendary surfing destination is located along the Eastern Cape coast: Jeffrey s Bay, renowned for its long rides and world class barrels. En route we see the old traditional way of life in the homeland area known as the Transkei and stop for lunch outside the capital of Umtata. We continue via Nelson Mandela s birthplace and house, arriving late afternoon at our accommodation in Chinsta East, on the beautiful, unspoiled Eastern Cape Coast. The Southern Drakensburg is a wonderland of woodlands, forests, lakes and rivers, all set against the dramatic backdrop of this spectacular mountain range. Several nature reserves fall into the area and protect a wide variety of flora and fauna, including some rare antelope species and, at Kamberg, a network of beautiful hiking trails lead to caves decorated with ancient Khoisan art. Trout thrive in the region s reservoirs and waterways, making it a magnet for fly-fishermen, while horse riding and mountain biking are also popular pursuits in this scenic part of the world. The ultimate highlight of the Southern Drakensburg, however, is the Sani Pass, which at almost 3,000 metres above sea level is South Africa s highest pass, leading all the way to the Lesotho border and offering magnificent vistas along the way. En route we visit the Umhlanga Rock and 300 foot high Howick Falls, continuing through the Southern Midlands Meander Route. With its beautiful beaches, lively wining and dining scene, and rich cultural heritage, Durban is KwaZulu Natal s tourist hub. The swimming and surfing is rated the best of any major city across the world and because of the sub-tropical climate the water is warm all year round. Known as the Golden Mile, this stretch of beaches and amusement parks is Durban s major attraction with the recently developed UShaka Marine World at the southern end providing a world class aquarium and other entertainments. Accommodation: Holiday Inn Express Umhlanga Day 10-10 September 2018 ST LUCIA (B, D) Today we head to St Lucia, a haven of tranquillity that only unspoiled nature can provide. Entirely surrounded by the isimangaliso Wetlands Park, the residents of this little village are highly protective of their beautiful environment. And it s not difficult to see why! Mountain biking, hiking, bird watching and deep-sea fishing are great ways to enjoy the surroundings. This tiny, land-locked nation boasts a rich historical and cultural heritage. Swaziland encompasses a diverse array of ecosystems towering mountains and low-lying savannah, tangled rainforests and lush river valleys. Highlights of this laid-back land include the mesmerizingly beautiful Valley of Heaven, the handicraft haven of the Malkerns Valley and the Hlane Royal National Park, famed for its white rhinos, antelopes and lions. Accommodation: Lugogo Sun Day 12-12 September 2018 HIPPO HOLLOW, HAZYVIEW (B, D) Today we make our way to Hazyview via the Matsamo Cultural Village, for a fantastic opportunity to gain an authentic understanding of traditional Swazi culture. Our journey then continues on to Hazyview. Surrounded by subtropical fruit orchards, this small farming town is the gateway to the southern part of the Kruger National Park and the Panorama Escarpment. The town and its spectacularly scenic surroundings serve as a popular adventure capital with a remarkable array of exhilarating outdoor activities on offer to suit all ages, tastes and fitness levels. Accommodation: Umbhaba Lodge Day 13-13 September 2018 HIPPO HOLLOW, HAZYVIEW (B, D) We start today bright and early, giving us as much time as possible to explore the wonders of the Kruger National Park. We spend today in the company of the Big Five in our open vehicle on an adventure you ll never forget. The Kruger National Park is an internationally renowned game reserve of nearly 2 million hectares and supports the largest variety of wildlife species on the African continent. Keep a lookout for the wonderful flora and bird life that inhabits this region. AND VICTORIA FALLS 18 DAY 18 DAY SOLOS SOLOS TOUR TOUR - SEPTEMBER - AUGUST 2018 2017 Day 14-14 September 2018 JOHANNESBURG (B, D) This morning we make our way to Johannesburg, travelling along the circular Panorama Route, one of the most beautiful parts of South Africa. One of the major highlights of the region is the Blyde River Canyon Reserve, the third largest canyon of its kind in the world and home to spectacular wildlife and birdlife. Other highlights include the breathtaking waterfalls in Graskop and Sabie, Lisbon and Berlin Falls, Gods Window and the Gold Rush territory, Pilgrim s Rest, home to the early gold prospectors. Johannesburg is one of Africa s biggest and most vibrant cities. It is the economic capital of Africa and the gateway to Southern Africa. Although not as famous as other South African destinations, there is plenty to do in Johannesburg and nearby Pretoria. The old city is a multi-cultural mixture of traditional medicine shops, Chinese restaurants, taxi ranks and ultra-modern skyscrapers. There are excellent museums, art galleries and organised tours of historical and political interest. The shopping is Southern Africa s best and the many restaurants cater for all tastes. The nearby township of Soweto is Johannesburg s most popular tourist attraction. Accommodation: Garden Court OR Tambo Day 15-15 September 2018 VICTORIA FALLS (B) Today we head to the airport for our early morning flight to Victoria Falls. Upon arrival we ll be met and transferred to our hotel, with some free time before we set sail on our spectacular sunset cruise on the Zambezi River. Relax with a sundowner and snacks as you gaze out onto the banks of the river. Have your camera ready to capture one of the most amazing sunsets in Africa. We ll see an array of wildlife as they come down to the river for a drink after a hot day in the Zambezi National Park (Zimbabwe) and the Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park (Zambia). Sightings of elephant, giraffe and other resident game are common. There s always an abundance of hippos and crocodiles. We ll discover how the Falls were formed and what local customs and traditions surround them. Accommodation: Cresta Sprayview Hotel Day 17-17 September 2018 VICTORIA FALLS, CHOBE TOUR (B,L) On Day 17, we head over the border into Botswana for the chance to explore one of Africa s greatest wildlife destinations, the Chobe National Park. Our morning begins with a river cruise into the park, with an opportunity to see a host of waders and water birds along with the ever present crocodile and hippos. Chobe is known for scores of large herbivores making their way down to the river to drink, most notably buffalo and elephant. Soft drinks and water are included on the boat. A fabulous lunch is served at a lodge on the river s edge before we head back into the national park in safari vehicles for even more game viewing and finally back to our hotel.
