GOLD COAST Cont d: THOUGHTS Artificial intelligence is no match for natural stupidity. If you look like your passport picture, you probably need the holiday. A conscience is what hurts when all your other parts feel good. My idea of housework is to sweep the room with a glance. The DAWSON CALLIDE VALLEY s 20th Open tournament was held in Biloela on 19-20 May with 110 players participating. It was pleasing to see 35 local vets (representing the five towns) join the visitors from the Gold and Sunshine Coasts, Brisbane, Toowoomba, Bundaberg, Gladstone, Rockhampton, Rolleston and other areas. Our first tournament was held in 1988 and 27 of the original players from that tournament were in Biloela for the weekend with 15 of them also participating in this year s tournament. Great to see Dorrie Kelland and Eleanor Bainbridge back watching the tennis. At a well-attended dinner dance, Don and Beryl Kerr were presented with a plaque for 20 years of support by buying trophies and Stewart Anderson also received a plaque for being President since the Association was formed and tournament director for all of the 20 tournaments. The celebration cake was cut by June Baxter, the first Secretary-Treasurer of the Association, Patroness, Edna Hindle and President Stewart Anderson. Congratulations to Val Willett, Jenny Thompson and Merv Bidgood who were the only players who played and won their events in all four sessions. The oldest player at the tournament was Ron Rehbein (Bundaberg) and the youngest player was Steven White (Benaraby). Ron had also played in the first tournament and we appreciate his continued support. All players were given a commemorative coffee mug for attending this event. A bloke was driving down the highway when he was pulled over by the cops. What did I do, sarge, he yells out as the cop walks up. Nothin, mate. You just happen to be the onemillionth driver who s been along this road since it s been open, and you ve been awarded a $1000 prize. Bewdy, sarge, he says. So what do you reckon you might spend it on, the sergeant inquires. I reckon I might take the money and get some driving lessons so I can get my licence. What!!! the cop explodes. Just then the bloke s wife leans over from the passenger seat and bellows: Don t take any notice of him, sarge, he s drunk. And the mother-in-law, from the back seat, thumps the bloke on the shoulder and screams: See I told ya you d get into trouble driving a stolen car!!! 5 55555
