It takes 1hour by bus to reach Oropos from Athens. CiA has been organising camps in Oropos every year from 2006 to 2011. After a break of 2 years we are coming back to the community!!! The previous years, volunteers have participated in the renovation of the old prison of Oropos, have renovated playgrounds, participated in intercultural festivals, made public awareness campaigns for environmental issues, racism, human rights and democracy. The old prison is currently hosting different community activities like kindergarten, meals for people facing financial difficulties etc. The dream is to transform the prison into a Museum and a Training Centre on Human Rights and Democracy. WORK: Volunteers will help in setting up and running a festival dedicated to Democracy that will take place between the 24th -27th of July. Volunteers will work in three main areas: a) Prepare the setting of the festival (manual work) b) organising the information dissemination activities for the festival (leaflets, happenings, social media etc) c) organise workshops, performances and other activities before and during the 4days festival. There will be several workshops for the preparation of performances. Additional the volunteers will have the chance to realise creative activities for children, such us: music, theatre games and anything else they are interested in and able to realise. We are asking for very motivated volunteers with communicative skills that play music or juggle. For this workcamp we cooperate with a group of active citizens of the community. Given the general situation (social, political and economic) the exact plan of daily activities will be decided on the spot in open discussion between the local and the international volunteers. Due to the nature of the programme the daily schedule will be flexible with an average of 5 hours per day (depends on festival days and hours), 6 days per week. ACCOMMODATION: Volunteers will be hosted at the premises of the old prison of Oropos. Toilets, showers and cooking facilities are provided but they are very basic. Participants will have most of their meals together with the guests of the social kitchen and sometimes will prepare meals themselves, in shifts. FREE TIME: Visits to the most important sites of the area. Volunteers will also have the opportunity to see some of the cultural events organised in different parts of the area. Camp-leaders will organise free time activities in co-operation with the volunteers and the local partner. C.i.A does not cover free time activities expenses. TERMINAL: Athens airport. EXTRA FEE: 20 euros. A Motivation Letter is required for this project. 30 Page 1 of 17

This path will be part of a network of paths across Santorini Island. They will also help cleaning some areas in the archaeological site of Akrotiri. Finally, they will also organize intercultural activities in the frame of year of culture organised by the south Aegean regional authorities. Page 13 of 17 2000 Network as one of the most important ecological regions of Europe. The north region of Karpathos-Saria is exceptionally mountainous, the highest peak of North Karpathos is 'Prophet Elias', 719 m, and of Saria is 'Pachi Vouno', 631 m, there are streams, rocky, steep coasts and screes. The intense relief of the region, with the large gradients, in combination with the strong winds and the low water availability play an important role to the form of vegetation in the area. Although the dominant vegetation is the brushwood, on the east of North Karpathos, as well as on the east and south of Saria, wooded areas of pine-trees (Pinus brutia) are also found. In their free time, participants will have the opportunity to get in touch with the everyday life of the island; they may attend local events (concerts, festival, performances, etc.). Volunteers will discuss their free time activities with their camp leaders; together they are going to organize excursions and visits around the city. Page 15 of 17 2000 Network as one of the most important ecological regions of Europe. REQUIREMENTS ELIX is looking for volunteers that are very keen on environmental protection and motivated by such projects. They should be prepared for the very simple living condition and not many urban choices for their free time. NEAREST AIRPORT Karpathos airport or ATH Athens airport and then 18 hours boat.
