Naxos is the greenest island in the Cyclades with impressively high mountains and fertile valleys. There are beaches that are among the most beautiful in Greece, a few minutes drive from villages where they still wear traditional dress, weave on old looms and live off the fruit of the land. Naxos is an island of beautiful old churches, monasteries and Venetian castles and homes. Naxos has been continuously inhabited since the 4th Milennium BC and excavations around the island bring to light ancient artifacts and buildings almost daily. Santorini is the main island of Greece s Cyclades and is comprised of 18 unique villages. Imerovigli is a picturesque village situated at the north of Santorini, only 2 km (1 ¼ miles) away from the capital of Fira. Actually, it is the extension of Fira, but the village is situated on a higher cliff. The name of Imerovigli comes from the word vigla, which means day. The position of the village provides a great view of the area. The area has many hotels and typical houses. In front of Imerovigli lies an enormous rock called Scaros. Scaros is part of the land and had a castle built on it until the early 1800s. The castle housed all the administrative offices of the island. This part of the island collapsed after an earthquake, and only the huge hill of Scaros is left today. Imerovigli also faces the volcano and offers an incredible view of the sunset. Pegasus Suites The luxury Pegasus Suites Hotel lies in the picturesque settlement of Imerovigli which is of unparalleled beauty. The property is situated snug into the cliff, next to St Nikolaos Byzantine monastery, overlooking the sea and the old crater of the volcano. The altitude is at 330 meters (over 1000 feet) offering a direct view to the volcano, the Aegean Sea and the amazing Santorini sunset. Pegasus is only 1 km (¾ mile) away from Fira, the island capital. It consists of apartments and suites decorated and furnished in the traditional Cycladic architecture with antiques and old furniture. Overnight: Pegasus Suites, superior studio sea view
DAYS 09 & 10: Santorini Have two full days at leisure to explore and relax on your own. From here, it is possible to rent a Smarte Car to explore for the day. It's hard to describe just how spectacular the views are in Santorini. Santorini or Thira as it is otherwise named, is one of the most beautiful and unique islands of Greece. It is the most southern island of the Cyclades in the south of the Aegean sea. Intriguing history, awesome volcanic landscape, cosmopolitan atmosphere, breathtaking sunsets, deep blue sea, the volcano, are just some of the reasons that make Santorini the most popular holiday destination in Greece!! Santorini has a metaphysical energy that overcomes you as you sail into the Caldera rim and gaze up the steep cliffs. Fira, Oia, Imerovigli are just some of the villages that are built into the cliffs with magnificent view of the Aegean sea, the volcano and the nearby islands of Ios, Folegandros and Sikinos. Volcanic activity plays a role in many of Santorini's popular activities, from swimming and sunbathing at the molten-dyed beaches to witnessing consistently gorgeous sunsets from the cliffs at Oia. Another option is to dive right in: Try sailing the clear-blue caldera where the city of Atlantis was said to have stood, or bathe in the hot springs surrounding the Santorini Volcano (Kameni). If you're more of a gastronome, take a tour of a winery in the town of Perissa. Santorini is home to several wineries and is especially known for its strong reds. On Santorini, people tend to rent small cars or even 4 wheeler motor bikes to get around the island: lots of fun! It's not all beach in Santorini. The island is endowed with archaeological sites, pleasant hikes, charming architecture and splendid views -- especially along the northwest coast from Fira to Oia. Witnessing at least one sunset in Oia is a must for any visitor, and thankfully the dry climate means you're unlikely to have the view washed out. Fira is the best spot for nightlife. You will want to visit the archeological site of Akrotiri. Often compared to Pompeii, Akrotiri boasts a much earlier age and preserves amazing ruins dating back to the second millennium BC. Walk through the well-kept passage way in the excavated area and marvel at the beautiful pottery, the two and three story houses, which were once decorated with renowned wall paintings, the staircases and a great variety of rooms, roads and squares of a city 3,500 years old. Be sure also to visit the Museum of Prehistoric Thira. The excavated town has been stripped of its treasures - they're here in the Museum. You'll understand the ancient site and the ancient Thirans much better after your visit here. Popular beaches include Red Beach, Perissa and Kamari. Overnight: Pegasus Suites daily
