STATEMENT and FINE PRINT Information World War 2 Jeeps NSW is NOT a formal Motor Vehicle Club, but more an Association of WW2 Jeep enthusiasts, bonded together by this e newsletter. It s sole intention is to share information about their vehicles, future displays, trips and events. It was founded in 1991 by the late Peter Walker in an effort to bring together genuine users of the legendary Jeep. Contact can be made with the current Committee as per the email addresses on the cover. Cliffs Say... I hope everyone has had a nice Christmas/New Year and got to enjoy some down time. I spent Christmas at Port Stephens and then did a short trip north to Coffs Harbour onto Grafton, Guyra, Tamworth and then back to Wollongong. While we were at Glen Innes we spotted a group of very dirty Jeeps and when we went to investigate we caught up with none other than Cardinal Carl, Neil Goodridge, Jackoooo, Michael Bowen, Emu and some other Coffs Coast Jeepers, who were also doing a short trip back towards Walcha and onto their various destinations. Since I returned home I have had the opportunity to use some of the toys I got for Christmas. I have been able to split some rims in half by using my air rattle gun much to my neighbours discontent. This also has the benefit of clearing out some unwanted items from my garage to make room for working on my Jeep restoration Project Rusty. At this point in time I am also doing maintenance on my primary Jeep, getting it ready for the trip to Corowa in March. The trip to Corowa this year is going to be lead by John Swane and sounds like it is going to be another great trip through the Snow and will be for an expected duration of 9 days. The run will be through some steep and spectacular country. So for anybody who is thinking of going make sure that maintenance on your vehicle has been a priority. NABIAC SHOWGROUND Classic Not Plastic is on again for 2015. In keeping with tradition we return to Nabiac for the second year over the June long weekend. Organised by Jeep Club of N.S.W. with the assistance of Jeep Action Magazine, the event is centred around pre-chrysler built Jeep vehicles, but all Jeeps are welcome. If you have an older jeep vehicle that is either in pristine or in used condition, or even a work in progress we would love to see it. Put the date in your diary, tell your boss you ll be away, and start getting your Jeep prepared so you won t miss the final year at this venue. A packed edition to kick off the Jeep News year firstly with the final instalment of the great report provided by Graeme Person on last years ANZAC 2014 TOUR to NORMANDY. Thanks for that and I am sure everyone has enjoyed the writings and the pictures. You made us all feel that we were there in your pocket! Coming up in the next few editions is a two part story of James and Annie s trips from the old dart over to Europe for the various 70 year anniversary celebrations. This time in the Shed! Also we still have to come the EDJITS Tour report and pictures. Some important items that need your attention and in particular is the entry to the Camden Show Military Tattoo, which is coming up fast. The organisers are very keen to have you at their event and would like your forms ASAP - ie NOW!!! See the penultimate page for full details. Promises to be a great celebration of the 100 years of ANZAC and something not to be missed. Seems to be a lot of requests from members or others outside to advertise that their Jeeps are for Sale. Policy Statement - We are more than happy to advertise your Jeep, bits and pieces or related equipment. We do this as a totally FREE service. This Newsletter has a direct distribution list of around 300 email address all across the country and indeed many overseas and who knows after that? But we do like to see photos and accurate descriptions and contact details. Also we would love feedback to how you go. I will only run it once, unless otherwise requested. Dad s clearing scrub with their new purchase from a local farmer who bought it from a surplus auction in the 50 s and converted it to a dozer. That s Matt sitting outside aged about 6! ERRATUM - Well not really, more a forgotten snippet that was supposed to be included with the Bush Telegraph edition that was in Jeep News No.154B - of September 2014. Page 3 of the Bush Tele feature, titled The Jeep, GPA and the Weasel had a few pictures of the M29C Weasel and Digger Ian wanted it known that two of our Association members are restoring a pair of these, rare (in Australia anyway), beasts. At the end of WW2, The Australian Antarctic Research Division used a few of these at their stations on Heard Island and Mawson. Their HQ was in Hobart and Melbourne and we have had a few pics of later model Jeeps from one of our Tasmania members, Ray Kennedy before. (ALSO in Jeep News No.85 or 86, as with a lot of other references in this edition). Hello! Well we all know that next years ANZAC Day is something special and I am sure that many people have plans already. However I'd like to make an open invitation to club members to spend the day in a truly iconic Australian village - Hill End. It is of course, an extraordinary village famous for it's old rush. It was the site of the largest single lump of gold ever extracted from the ground (in the world) and to this day stands as the richest quarter mile of gold ever discovered. The village is now preserved and protected with many buildings dating back to the gold rush - including my school - 1870! Anzac Day here is special like many small communities. 2015 will also see the rededication of the memorial with new plaques of all the men from the district who served in WW1. So if you'd like to experience Anzac Day - Iconic country Aussie style - I'd like to invite club members to Hill End. Camp in my back yard for free... original 1870 post office...and the most amazing game of Two Up ever at the Royal Hotel, and... if your interested bring a metal detector or gold pan and I'll happily take you out prospecting for a few hours too. UP COMING EVENT - Part contents of a letter to Jan Thompson at KVE / AMVCS Bathurst Regional Council (BRC) will mark the official Bicentenary date of 7 th May 2015 by having a morning Proclamation Day ceremony. The Bathurst District Historical Society (BDHS) has also stepped in to help our community celebrate its bicentennial year by staging the Bathurst Bicentennial Colonial Fair (BBCF) that spans Thursday afternoon 7 th May and all day Saturday 9 th May 2015. As the 7 th May falls mid-week and schools are in class and businesses are all open, the Organising Committee of the BBCF decided to make the Saturday the big day to help the whole community celebrate the bicentenary. Part of the Saturday s events will be a display of vintage vehicles built on or before 1945 (the end of WWII). Some notable exceptions may be allowed. Our primary vintage vehicle display area is restricted in size and so we may only be able to display from 50 to 75 vehicles; however, we may be able to secure more space if demand is great. We wish that a number of these vehicles can be of army type. Applications to display vehicles must be made. Owners of vehicles that are accepted for display on the BBCF site will be notified as such. We had to climb the walls of red tape to get our site for the BBCF approved. Thus I know that it is somewhat late to make this request to members of VARIOUS MILITARY VEHICLE CLUBS, as you probably already have your program of events for 2015 scheduled. However, we would appreciate any assistance that you can muster up to arrange some good quality display vehicles for our event. I was impressed with the display your club (remember he is writing to KVE, but that display has many of our members - ED), put on at the 2014 Oberon Highland Steam and Vintage Fair. I have attached my photos of the display in particular I loved seeing the amphibian vehicle and would love to see that one, or similar, at our event. So it goes on blah blah blah Anyway, it was written to KVE and Jan, who I think is co-ordinating it through them and AMVCS. I suggest if you live in the local area or you are indeed interested to attend this event, that you contact Jan direct and let her know your interested. All in very good condition, canvas roof, disc brakes (still have original drums) many more parts etc. Trailer is rare and only know of 2 others. AN UNUSUAL JEEP TRIP - for us anyway, however, USA member, David Lesinski, whom came to us through the famous Jeep Grill Belt Buckles, filed the following report for Jeep News. Not an old Jeep, but that will come, but for the scenery!! Man its just fantastic! He writes We wheeled Moab, Utah the first week of Sept, 2014. We drove the Jeep from Federal Way, WA for a day and a half to get there, wheeled it for 4 full days, then drove it back home. It's a keeper! OIIIIIIIO. We started out easy with the trail "Hey Joe Canyon", then did a scenic one with the women driving, titled "Tower Arch". We then took on the 5th most difficult trail (sections of 3 trails): "Poison Spider Mesa/ Golden Spike/Gold Bar Rim". Very challenging with one obstacle right after the next, and very scenic! My brother-in-law, Dean flopped on a stair step and I used my winch (for the first time), to get him back on his wheels. Dean, Kasey and the dogs were ok and the Jeep fired back up, coughed some white smoke and we were off again. It was an epic trip we will never forget and we are already planning our next one! ANZAC 2OI4 TOUR TO NORMANDY Part E and FINAL Edited by Graeme Person from a trip diary by Mick Jericevich - Photos by Graeme Person June 6 The big day has arrived - We travel to the beach at Arromanches with the other MVT vehicles leaving the camp at 0430hrs so as not to clog the roads around the beach areas. The French police seemed to be paranoid about old vehicles especially those driven by Poms. Needless to say it was the old hurry up and wait scenario We were down within sight of the beach by 0515hrs and then we lined up and then we moved and lined up some more. Fortunately, there was a boulangerie / patisserie open down the street which was doing great business from the huge crowd gathered at Arromanche. We had not had any breakfast as we just hopped out of bed and into the vehicles and headed out of the camp with the other 100 odd MV's. We were allowed on to the beach at about 0700 after the tide had receded enough. There was a Scottish pipe band playing up on the street above the beach, later they marched down onto the beach. Around midday the band boarded 5 DUWKs, headed out into the English Channel for a short distance and then came ashore playing - a great sight. The Dutch King and Queen were at the official area but the crowds were so great that it was not possible to see them. There were 2 UK landing barges beached in front of the town area, one was about 120 metres long and about 10metres wide. I was talking to the crew who told me that the barge could be expanded to 200 metres long and 15 metres wide and still withstand a force 5 gale. We left the beach at 1330hrs as the tide was starting to come back in so we headed back to the camp to pack up the Jeep for our departure the next day. June7 Overnight we had a terrific thunderstorm and I was worried that the tent might leak. We did have a tarp erected over the tent which did shed some of the rain off. When we arose, there had been hail during the storm as there was a small pile of pea sized stones that had slid off the tarp. We had packed the Jeep the previous day except for the tent and bedding so we could set off early for Hans to take his daughter, Marielle, to catch the train to Paris for her flight back to Sydney. She had been traveling with us for about 3 weeks. We are on our way to Amiens with constant rain and no wipers made an interesting trip. We a:rive at the camp about 1500hrs by then the rain had stopped so setting up the camp was easy. Hans received a phone call from the Kiwi WC51 to say that the top of a valve had sheared off and punched a hole through the piston. Hans organised a tilt tray and a rental car enabling them to catch up with the group and for the Dodge to be taken to the Yard at Zaltbommel in Holland where Richard's Dodge was already and where the O/S vehicles will be shipped from. We ate at the camp dining room which provide a good meal for a reasonable price and of course the mandatory bowl of frittes and a litre of their finest rouge. June8 We look at sights around Amiens with its WWl history with Richard in a bit of comfort of the rental car. Richard had to photograph some headstones of relatives of people he knew in NZ. This took us to Pozieres and a huge British cemetery at Thiepval. The memorial building there was huge, we did not know about this one but the place stood out on the skyline so that we had to visit The entrance building had some very good photos and audio visual presentations and of course the gift shop which we could not resist. We had lunch at a village restaurant that was decked out with Aussie flags and Koala's - It turned out that Richard had been there before but could not remember where the place was. It was on to Villiers - Bretonneau and the magnificent war cemetery there. As we pulled up in the car park the Petersen's drove in so we were able to share the sights with them. It is now possible to climb up inside the tower and walk around the outside thanks to the recent addition of the walkway. The weather had warmed to a pleasant 24c which has the effect of making one a tad thirsty, well that was the excuse for that day anyway. June 9 Bastogne is our target for today and we just get packed up and on the road before the rain hit. Still having problems with overheating and no battery being charged but we push on. We start off on the motorway but the temperature is a problem so we switch to the secondary roads as the hills are not so steep and it is safer to pull over in there is an overheating problem. We pull into the camp at about 1500hrs and set up. We decide to eat at the camp which has a very nice dining room. Shortly after settling into the meal, a huge thunderstorm descended upon us. We were OK inside but we expected our tent and others to be flattened. Fortunately, w e had camped against a tall thick hedge which took the force out of the wind so all was good. June 10 The Bastogne War Museum will be our first stop today. This is one not to miss if you are in the area. Several audio visual presentations and static displays. Outside there is the memorial to over 76,000 US servicemen who were killed or MIA. This was more than were lost at Normandy. The town of Bastogne has a very nice town square with a Sherman tank displayed. When we arrived back at the camp, some ex- British Para's are camped near us. Had a long chat to them and had photo so f them taken in front of Tony's Jeep with their flag. Ate at the camp dining room again because the food is good and we like to support local places. It has got nothing to do with us not being able to cook or anything like that! Jeep News No.158 February 2015

June 11 We had a lots of storm activity around us last night but on top of us. There was a heavy dew which meant that the tent was put away wet but no choice. As we were about to leave the camp, Hans' Dodge has a dummy spit - Electrical but fixable in about 30 mins. The weather was misty and cold which was good for the overheating problems of some of the vehicles. We stayed on the B" roads and travelled through some very nice places which seemed to have their fair share of visitors with sidewalk cafes, stalls etc. We visited the Ardennes American Cemetery which is the second largest in Europe with 8300 graves or names on memorial walls mostly from the "Market Garden" campaign. We camp on the banks of the River Maas which is big enough to carry Motorized barges which appear to be about 30-40mtres long. The barges are quite low as the bridges over the river are not very high. It is not obvious what the cargo is but some of them carry a road vehicle on deck as it also appears that the barge is also the home of the Skipper. We have dinner at a restaurant at few hundred metres along the river with really nice views. This is our last night camping as we need the tents to be dry for the trip back in the container. June 12 We have late start on our way to Arnhem as we are going to the museum at Overloon. This place has the best collection of MV's of any museum that I have ever seen. As the war basically ended in this area, the hardware would have been right there Some vehicles I had never even heard of let alone seen before. There are other museums and memorials to the Operation Market Garden and *A Bridge Too Far" along the way. We are staying in cabins for the final two nights to allow for packing etc. The office at the camp is closed but someone on the staff had the good sense to hand all the keys for the group to the first ones in the camp but we did not know that when we first arrived. Our cabins were the furthest from the gate which had a barrier which you guessed it, needed a token to operate the boom. Plus, we did not know where the holders of the keys were in the camp which was pretty big. Eventually, we sorted it but the office hours did leave a bit to be desired. Richard cooked up a very nice vegetable dish for our dinner. June 13 Sleeping in a cabin with ones own room is a real luxury after many, many nights in a tent on a camp stretcher with a self inflating mattress that did not inflate as much as I would have liked. We go to the Airborne Museum which is contained inside a former Hotel which was the German headquarters for the Arnhem area and became the Airbome headquarters after it was overrun. It was an interesting place as it told the true story of Operation Market Garden and why it eventually failed although Montgomery said it was 90% successful. The Airborne losses were staggering with about 20% losses. It also told of how the local population suffered by the time they returned to their homes, they had lost everything except what they could carry. After lunch we went into town and walked over the actual bridge that was being fought over. We then went to the Arnhem Museum and watched a movie on the actual battle. As it our last night together as a group, we have a farewell dinner at the camp dining room and watch the Dutch side beat Spain in a World Soccer Cup game which the Dutch won 5-1. June 14 Today we head to the transport yard at Zaltbommel for the vehicles to be prepared for loading. Our camping gear will be placed in the container going to Newcastle with the Petersen's vehicles. We cant load them as the Dodge with the hole in the piston has not yet arrived at the transport yard. Hans will be on hand at the yard when the loading actually takes place. Richards with his rental and the Kiwis with the rental car, transport the others to the local rail station for the train to Amsterdam. We follow Hans to Apeldoorn to park the vehicles in the storage shed where we started from nearly 9 weeks previously. Hans and his wife make us very welcome for 2 nights and then Hans son Chris who has been traveling with us for a couple of weeks and is on the same flight as us, has rental a car and he has offered to drive us to Schipol Airport. We depart Amsterdam on June16. Total kilometres travelled 8138 - Fuel consumed 993 litres - At a cost I7l8 Euros.

OUT & ABOUT - All American Day, on the roof of Castle Towers Car Park I nice fine but hot day enticed several members out to our smallish display on the outskirts of what was an impressive display of American Muscle and Chrome. Left Gadget and son Brad, Gazza and Vinh were joined by Sweetie, Kevin and Phil Emerton and myself with the Father in law Colin and my neighbour Dave. New Member Adam Broomham (bottom right), made an appearance but seemingly was dragged away shopping and looking all that was on show and I missed him by the time I got there after detouring to Roseberry to look at a CJ3B (see earlier). The kids who managed to find us, enjoyed getting their pics taken.
Left Phil (I finally get my picture in the Newsletter) Emerton and his nicely presented modified. Thanks go to the Mustang Owners Club for yet another successful display making a motza for their chosen charity. Great displays all round of some rare and valuable brass, chrome and metal!

Appreciate some feedback on acquiring a trailer to transport my Jeep (finally) and know that there are good folk out there that have already done same & would be in a good position to give me some great tips saves learning the hard way. In the past have rented / borrowed car trailers and latterly an 11x6 HD box trailer (rated for weight). Stopped using the latter because heard on grape vine that RMS brought in a new rule that conveyancing trailer vehicle (whether purpose built car trailer or box trailer) must be registered as a car trailer / conveyancer regardless of its structural design. I contacted RMS technical today & was advised that this was not so. Requirement is purely weight based GVM.. regardless of what is being carried. So looks like I can acquire HD box trailer GVM of 2.0 Tonne and the search narrows as to whether I can squeeze Jeep onto a 9x5 have to pack timber runner under tyres to raise Jeep so free wheeling hubs (5 extremities) will clear top of side walls ( PS that means that side walls of tyres are pretty tight, but do- able). What can anyone suggest as viable options other than building one from scratch? Well Tony, I cant offer much advice. I have used a few and seen plenty and some look better than others and appear to have been well converted for the purpose. Cliff and Billycan Ashford both have large box type trailers and can possibly answer or advise. IF ANYONE ELSE CAN HELP???? It s Pick on the Irish month courtesy of Roger and Lloyd. Into a Belfast pub comes Paddy Murphy, Looking like he'd just been run over by a train. His arm is in a sling, his nose is broken, his face is cut and bruised and he's walking with a limp. "What happened to you?" asks Sean, the bartender. " Jamie O'Conner and me had a fight," says Paddy. "That little twit, O'Conner," says Sean, "He couldn't do that to you, he must have had something in his hand." "That he did," says Paddy, "a shovel is what he had, and a terrible lickin' he gave me with it." " Well," says Sean, "you should have defended yourself, didn't you have something in your hand?" That I did," said Paddy. "Mrs. O'Conner's breast, and a thing of beauty it was, but useless in a fight." An Irishman who had a little too much to drink is driving home from the city one night and, of course, his car is weaving violently all over the road. A cop pulls him over. "So," says the cop to the driver, Where have ya been?" " Why, I've been to the pub of course," Slurs the drunk. " Well," says the cop, "it looks like you've had quite a few to drink this evening." "I did all right," the drunk says with a smile. "Did you know," says the cop, standing straight and folding his arms across his chest, "that a few intersections back, your wife fell out of your car?" "Oh, thank heavens," sighs the drunk. "For a minute there, I thought I'd gone deaf." Brenda O'Malley is home making dinner, as usual, when Tim Finnegan arrives at her door. "Brenda, may I come in?" he asks. "I've somethin' to tell ya". "Of course you can come in, you're always welcome, Tim. But where's my husband? "That's what I'm here to be telling ya, Brenda. There was an accident down at the Guinness brewery..." "Oh, God no!" cries Brenda. "Please don't tell me." "I must, Brenda. Your husband Shamus is dead and gone. I'm sorry. Finally, she looked up at Tim. "How did it happen, Tim?" "It was terrible, Brenda. He fell into a vat of Guinness Stout and drowned." "Oh my dear Jesus! But you must tell me truth, Tim. Did he at least go quickly?" "Well, Brenda... No. In fact, He got out three times to pee." Mary Clancy goes up to Father O'Grady after his Sunday morning service, and she's in tears. He says, "So what's bothering you, Mary my dear?" She says, "Oh, Father, I've got terrible news. My husband passed away last night." The priest says, "Oh, Mary, that's terrible. Tell me, Mary, did he have any last requests?" She says, "That he did, Father." The priest says, "What did he ask, Mary? " She says, He said, Please Mary, put down that damn gun A drunk staggers into a Catholic Church, enters a confessional booth, sits down, but says nothing. The Priest coughs a few times to get his attention but the drunk continues to sit there. Finally, the Priest pounds three times on the wall. The drunk mumbles, "Ain't no use knockin, there's no paper on this side either!" Stew died in a fire and his body was burned pretty badly. The morgue needed someone to identify the body, so they sent for his two best friends, Mick and Paddy. The three men had always done everything together. Mick arrived first, and when the mortician pulled back the sheet Mick said, 'Yup, his face is burned up pretty bad. You better roll him over..' The mortician rolled him over and Mick said, 'Nope, ain't Stew.' The mortician thought this was rather strange. So he brought Paddy in to confirm the identity of the body. Paddy looked at the body and said, 'Yup, he's pretty well burnt up. Roll him over.' The mortician rolled him over and Paddy said, 'No, it ain't Stew.' The mortician asked, 'How can you tell?' Paddy said, 'Well, Stew had two arseholes.' 'What? He had two arseholes?' asked the mortician. 'Yup, we never seen 'em, but everybody used to say: There's Stew with them two arseholes.'
