That s why, when it comes to sleeping bags, there s such a huge variety. Which should you choose? Down? Synthetic? What s loft? And, what features do you need? Our friendly, knowledgeable staff are here to help you find a sleeping bag that caters to the warmth, weight, quality and budget that you require. APRIL 2018 How to choose your sleeping bag Sleeping bags are generally categorised in respect to seasons. For example, a 3-season sleeping bag is recommended for use for 3 out of 4 seasons in a year (usually, that s summer, autumn and spring). At Bogong, we stock 2-, 3- and 4-season bags, as well as expedition sleeping bags for extreme conditions. Two-season bags are typically very lightweight. They re designed for summer or spring activities in warm climes, to a lower comfort temperature range of approximately 0 C. Three-season bags are mid-range bags. They re designed for activities such as travel and bushwalking, where mild to cooler conditions may be anticipated to a lower comfort temperature range of approximately -8 C. Four-season bags are for cold conditions. They re designed for activities such as bushwalking, ski touring or mountaineering, where cold conditions may be anticipated to a lower temperature range of approximately -20 C. Expedition bags are for cold conditions. They re designed for activities like ski touring or mountaineering where cold conditions may be anticipated to a lower temperature ranges of about -25+ C. Care for your new sleeping bag A down sleeping bag is not difficult to look after. In fact, with the correct care, you can greatly increase your sleeping bag s life: Avoid storing your sleeping bag in its stuff sack. If you have the room, hang it in your wardrobe or keep it folded on a shelf. If you have limited space, store your sleeping bag in a pillow case or purchase a mesh storage bag from us. Always use a sleeping bag liner to keep your sleeping bag clean. Dirt and body oils reduce the loft greatly. Liners are available in cotton, silk or a cotton/silk blend. Silk liners are the lightest and most compact option. A well-used sleeping bag should be washed a few times during its life. It s far easier to get a professional to do this (we recommend Remote Repairs remoterepairs.com.au). If you do elect to wash your bag yourself, follow washing instructions provided on the sleeping bag and use only recommended down washes, such as Storm Wash-In Down Cleaner, available at our store.
