Day 1, Sunday TBD Afternoon Arrival to Havana. (pending flight information) Check-in at hotel. 5:30 pm Orientation talk with your local guide: overview of the agenda, discussion about local transportation, nearby markets, internet access and other logistics, safety, cultural norms and current events in Cuba. At the hotel. 6 pm Enjoy a discussion and private performance by Banda Ancha, a jazz band led by Yissy Garcia, an amazingly talented young percussionist. Banda Ancha calls its style high-speed Cuban jazz, a mixture of different rhythms like funk, reggae and samba, with Afro-Cuban influences. 7:30 pm Welcome dinner at Paladar San Cristobal. Located in the heart of Central Havana, this paladar has a reputation of excellence in both atmosphere and local cuisine. Enjoy great food while the local takes you back to the 1940s and 50s. Day 2, Monday 9:30 am Walking tour of the Old City. Visit the Plaza de Armas, a scenic tree-lined plaza formerly at the center of influence in Cuba. It is surrounded by many of the most historic structures in Havana as well as important monuments. See the Plaza de San Francisco, a cobbled plaza surrounded by buildings dating from the 18th century, dominated by the baroque Iglesia and Convento de San Francisco dating from 1719. Wander through the Plaza Vieja, the oldest plaza in Havana, dating from the 16th century. Walk along Mercaderes Street and visit Plaza de la Catedral where the famous Havana Cathedral is located, the best example of Cuban baroque style in the city. 12 pm Lunch at Doña Eutimia paladar. Famous for its ropa vieja and frozen mojitos, this cozy paladar made Newsweek Magazine s top 100 restaurants in the world in 2012. The restaurant s location in the beautiful cathedral square is unbeatable. 2 pm Socio-economic discussion with urban planner Miguel Coyula, whose presentation will touch on housing, infrastructure, investment and restoration programs. It s bound to leave you with a better understanding of why Havana looks the way it does today and possibilities moving forward. Late afternoon and evening free Optional: Visit Playas del Este (eastern beaches), where Habaneros go to escape the city heat. Take a stroll in the white sand and a dip in the turquoise water. Day 3, Tuesday 9 am Visit a centuries-old mansion in Vedado neighborhood. Step inside this stately residence to discover what lies behind the crumbling facades of Havana s impressive mansions. Josie, who has lived in the house for over 60 years, will show us around and explain its rich history. 10 am Visit to the Nostalgic Cars restoration garage. Owners Nidialys Acosta and Julio Alvarez have taken advantage of the recent economic opening to put together a fleet of over 20 pristine clasicos to provide professional service to their clientele. We will visit the garage to see how they restore these beauties from the 1950s.

10:45 am Driving tour in Nostalgic cars. Visit the Vedado neighborhood and its main landmarks, including the Christopher Colon Cemetery and the University of Havana. Visit the Miramar neighborhood, a residential district of the municipality of Playa, where many embassies are located including the landmark Russian embassy. Drive along the famous Quinta Avenida (Fifth Avenue) and see the mansions that used to belong to many of Havana's upscale residents prior to the Revolution. 12:30 pm Lunch at El Aljibe, a government-run restaurant famous for its black beans, baked chicken and large family style portions. 2:30 pm Enjoy a performance by Habana Compás Dance, which encompasses the rich rhythm and flow of the island, performing traditional and modern dances born from their Spanish, Cuban and Afro- Cuban heritage. 4 pm Afternoon discussion with the Reina y Real, a female hip hop/jazz duo. The group s music focuses on breaking down stereotypes in Cuban society, including machismo, healthy relationships, gender relations and race. They will share info about their interesting musical journey and insight into the challenges and opportunities young Cubans face. Evening free 7:15 pm Dinner Reservation at La Guarida paladar, famous not only for its delectable dining, but also as the location for the film Strawberry and Chocolate. It is housed on the third floor of a large, old town house carrying the charming ambience of the early 1900s. Concordia e Gervasio y Lealtad, no. 418 altos, Centro Habana (not included to be paid on the ground) Day 4, Wednesday 9 am Depart for Viñales. Considered by many to be the most beautiful place in Cuba, the Viñales Valley National Monument holds stunning landscapes. The area is also famous for being the premier tobacco growing area in the world. 12 pm Arrive to Viñales. Stop at the lookout at Los Jazmines hotel, before descending into the valley. 1 pm Enjoy lunch on the grounds of a local farm, Finca Paraiso Argoecologica (the agro-ecological Paradise Farm), where we will learn about Cuban agriculture and tobacco production while indulging in an organic meal. 2:30 pm Check-in at bed and breakfasts, known as casas particulares, or private homes. Since the 1990s Cuban families have been permitted to rent rooms out of their family homes to foreigners. Featuring comfortable accommodations and ample privacy, it s a great way to interact with everyday Cubans. 4 pm Discussion with the town Historian Ricardo Álvarez about local development issues in agricultural, private sector growth and foreign investment. 5 pm Explore downtown Viñales. Walk along the main street and visit the central plaza and local markets. Evening free

Day 6, Thursday 9 am Enjoy a morning stroll through tobacco fields to learn about the Valley s most important crop, and other flora and fauna of the area. Stop at the home of a local tobacco farmer, who will teach us about the cultivation and production process, followed by a rolling demo. He might even light up a cigar or two for the group. Explore on your own and take part in activities that support the Cuban people, such as visiting art galleries, eating at private restaurants, speaking with artisans, or hiring private cars and bicycle taxis. CET representatives will offer guidance on ensuring legal compliance with OFAC regulations. 4 pm Attend salsa lessons to learn the moves of Cuba s most famous type of dance. 7 pm Enjoy a home-cooked meal prepared by your hosts. Day 7, Friday 10 am Check-out of casas and return to Havana. 1 pm Lunch at Paladar Atelier. This restaurant is equally known for its atmosphere and exquisite cuisine. The lighting and textures of the house, which was home to a pre-revolutionary senator, coupled with walls adorned in modern art, create a cozy but modern setting. 3 pm Check-in at hotel. 6 pm Spend the early evening at Café Madrigal with Frank Delgado, renowned singer and songwriter, for a discussion about the nueva trova movement in Cuba, followed by a musical performance. Café Madrigal, owned and run by film director Rafael Rosales, is housed in a beautiful colonial mansion with the walls lined with captivating artwork. Enjoy tasty tapas and cocktails. 7:30 pm Behind the Scenes visit to Fabrica de Arte Cubano, the premier location for viewing some of the freshest art and Cuban design in Havana. The brainchild of Afro-Cuban fusion musician X-Alfonso, it has become the country s most successful art and music venue and a meeting spot for a young, eclectic crowd of Cubans and foreigners. 8 pm Farwell Dinner Reservation at Tierra, Havana s newest international dinning spot. Located inside a container in the Fábrica de Arte Cubano, the restaurant mirrors the eclectic crowd, serving dishes from around the world. (not included to be paid on the ground) Day 8, Saturday TBD Check-out and depart for the airport (2 ½ hours before your flight departs).
