BULLETIN PRESIDENT S MESSAGE Although we did not a meeting this week at the Amora there are a couple of items that should be conveyed to members. It is very sad indeed that I have to report on the passing of Past President and Charter Member Peter Leonard. Peter passed away on Tuesday night after quite a long illness. Peter was one of those delightful people who was always pleased to see you, always smiling and always ready to laugh at your jokes (regardless how dreadful they were). Although I knew Peter since 1993 I don t recall ever seeing him annoyed in fact, I don t he knew how to be annoyed! Peter was a Charter Member of the Rotary Club of Kew East (which is now the RC Yarra Bend), twice President (1991/92 & 2005/06) and Paul Harris Fellow (with 2nd Sapphire). He also held many other roles in the club including Secretary and, he was involved in just about anything happening including as perennial auctioneer at the Club s Oaks Eve Calcutta evenings. Deserving particular mention, was his involvement as the Club s representative on a multi-club project, the Life Education Caravan, which was used for public health education to school students during the 1990 s. Peter s wife, Ann (no e ) was also a member and President (2001/02) and together they formed a formidable team in making valuable contributions. On leaving the Club in 2007 they consented to the Club establishing the Peter & Ann Leonard Shield for the Best New Member which was first awarded in 2009. For those who did not receive our earlier emails, the funeral details are: St Francis Xavier Catholic Church Cnr Whitehorse Road and Dorking Street, Box Hill Wednesday 14th March 2018 at 1.00pm (changed from an earlier advertised time of 1.30pm) For those who cannot attend the funeral on Wednesday, a Memorial Service is arranged for Tuesday evening (13th March) at 7.00pm at the same church. A reminder that this week s meeting (14th March) is the visit to the RAAF Museum at the RAAF Base, Point Cook. Starting at 6.45pm (sharp) will be a guided tour of the Museum by the Director, David Gardner. After the visit to the Museum we will adjourn to a local eatery for dinner I am assured there are plenty of good places to choose from. Those attending need to advise to David Shave names and car registration numbers for him to pass to the Museum Director. RAAF Point Cook is still a military establishment (although a mere shadow of its former self as the Home of the RAAF) and there is security at the entrance gate.
