FRIDAY - JUNE 17 Page 6 of 13 9:00 AM Barcelona Sightseeing with Private Guide - VOUCHER #2 ***Meeting point: Please meet your guide at the hotel lobby at 9:00 AM. Tour Guide: Lydia Sekouri Tour Guide cell phone #: (+) 34608637990 Your guide will meet you at your hotel for a great half-day (4-hour) walking tour of the city. Today, you will visit historic landmarks and locations in Barcelona, including Placa espanya, Sagrada Familia, and Agbar Tower. Plaça d'espanya, also known as Plaza de España in Spanish, is one of Barcelona's most important squares, built on the occasion of the 1929 International Exhibition, held at the foot of Montjuïc, in the Sants-Montjuïc district. It is also home to Barcelona's old bull-fighting ring which is now nothing but a shell, albeit quite a beautiful one.the main draw to Plaça Espanya is the Palau Nacional which is the Museum of Catalan art, stands regally up on the side of Montjuïc. La Sagrada Familia is one of Gaudí's most famous works in Barcelona. It's a giant Basilica that has been under construction since 1882, and it's not expected to be completed for some time yet! Interpretation of the designs by present day architects is particularly challenging because the actual construction stones are irregularly shaped. The building is still under construction so be prepared to see a lot of work continuing when you visit. The Torre Agbar is currently the highest building in Barcelona. Only the Sagrada Familia will surmount it once the construction works are over - the building regulations in Barcelona do not allow any other building to be taller than the Sagrada Familia. Depending on the incidence of light, the tower changes its colours - the coloured aluminium sheeting that reflects the light consists of 40 different colours of high gloss. When the tower is illuminated at night, it is extremely impressive. During the illumination, the 4,500 illuminated glass panels constantly change their colours. Important monuments you'll visit include: Golden Tower The Golden Tower is one of Seville's most photographed landmarks, as it is prominently located at a wide promenade near the river bank, close to the city's historic center. The tower is a legacy of the Almohades, a Moorish dynasty that controlled much of Southern Spain until the reconquest of the area by the Christians in the thirteenth century. It was built in 1760. Today, it is a naval museum which engravings, letters, models, antique navigation instruments and historical documents. San Telmo Palace This magnificent palace is one of Seville's most impressive buildings, and certainly the city's finest example of the baroque style. Situated to the south of the centre, between the Hotel Alfonso XIII and the river, its 40-million-euro, 10-year refurbishment finished in 2010. The palace is the seat of the Regional Government's President. The palace's main feature is the exuberant stone Churrigueresque portal on the main façade, overlooking Avenida de Roma and the Jardines del Cristina. This was built by three generations of the Figueroa family, as it took over 70 years to complete. Archive of the Indies Housed in the ancient merchants' exchange of Seville, Spain, the Casa Lonja de Mercaderes, is the repository of extremely valuable archival documents illustrating the history of the Spanish Empire in the Americas and the Philippines. The building itself, an Italianate example of Spanish Renaissance architecture, was designed by Juan de Herrera. This structure and its contents were registered in 1987 by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. Seville, Spain: Explore the city with a local guide Sevilla, ANDALUCÍA, ES
