YOUR EXPEDITION OBJECTIVES These are the areas around which your expedition will focus such as adventurous activities, projects and destination highlights. ADVENTURE Enjoy a wild jungle experience deep in the rainforest of Borneo. Acclimatise to the tropical jungle in a wilderness jungle camp and learn all about survival techniques in the rainforest. Your time here will involve day and night hikes, trap building, blowpipe practice and learning the 101 uses of bamboo. The team will be cooking on fires and camping out in basic jungle shelters. Don t forget to zip up your fly sheet! Embark on a cultural walking tour through forests, rivers, rubber and pineapple plantations and Kampongs. Enjoy the legendary hospitality of the Dusun people. You will be staying in their villages and accompanying them to their farms to plant crops and trekking with them into the nearby jungle to gather medicinal plants. Visit the Orang-utan Rehabilitation Centre in Sepilok. Borneo is one of only two islands where the orang-utan still exists in the wild. Enjoy close up encounters with these fascinating creatures whilst learning about their nature and ever declining habitat. You can also visit the strange proboscis monkeys at a nearby sanctuary, the Rainforest Interpretation Centre and head out to hike the forest trails. Travel out to the Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park (TAR islands), a 30 minute boat ride from Kota Kinabalu. Relax on the pristine white sandy beaches, wander through forest trails and snorkel in the warm waters (28ºc), a great way to end your amazing Borneo adventure. Borneo 2017 Sample Brief

PROJECT There are some great project opportunities in Borneo. You may choose to head deep into the rainforest of central Sabah and work alongside the MESCOT Project. The project aims to provide sustainable, alternative sources of income for local indigenous people, while simultaneously protecting the rainforest and the high wildlife populations & mega-biodiversity of the Lower Kinabatangan. There is a great need for teams to support the ongoing forest habitat restoration for orang-utans and other wildlife. You will be involved in the restoration of the community forest that was destroyed in fires, the removal of invasive plants and simple building projects such as boardwalk construction. During the project you will stay with a local family in the village. Working alongside the villagers you will develop a greater understanding of the issues they and many of Borneo s communities face on a daily basis. You may also have the chance to observe amazing, rare wildlife in their natural habitat! outlookexpeditions.com5
