June to September is the hottest period with hot + humid conditions + temperatures rarely dip below 40C. There is virtually no rain in this region. PASSPORTS + VISAS All passengers require a valid passport with at least 6 months validity remaining as of date of entry into the UAE + Qatar. No visa is required for entry into the UAE or Qatar for Australian passport holders. Australia is one of the countries included in the Visa Waiver programme for Qatar. Please check with your Travel Agent or the Consulate of the country you are visiting before you travel, as it is your responsibilty to ensure that any requirements are met. UAE TOURISM FEE In Dubai hotels charge a fee ranging AED 7-20, depending on the category/ grade of the hotel. This fee is per occupied room night and is not charged on the basis of the number of guests staying in the room. In Abu Dhabi a fee of 4% of hotel stay bill + AED15 is charged per night per room. This fee is not included in our rates and is payable direct to the hotel at time of check-in or check-out, depending on the hotel s modus operandi. OTHER HOTELS, RESORTS + SIGHTSEEING Via our partners, we have access to a vast range of hotels, resorts + villas as well as extensive sightseeing + touring throughout Europe. CULTURE + LIFESTYLE RELIGION Islam is the official religion of the UAE + Qatar + local culture is deeply linked. LANGUAGE Arabic is the official language of the UAE + Qatar, although English is widely spoken + written. THE WEEKEND The weekend in the Gulf is Friday/Saturday. Keep in mind that Friday is the holy day + some attractions may be closed until the early evening. WHAT TO WEAR Lightweight summer cloathing is suitable for most of the year, someething lishgtly warmer in the winter months. As with anywhere, respect for local customs is recommended, particularly when away the beaches or poolside, wear loose clothing that covers your arms + legs, + especially if you wish to enter a mosque or good restaurant. Handy too to carry a wrap - the airconditioning can sometimes be a little chilly! EATING + DRINKING There is a wide range of cuisines offered in Dubai, Abu Dhabi + Doha + predominantly alcohol is only served in international hotel outlets. During Ramadan further restrictions apply within hotels. TIPPING Tipping is not compulsory + entirely at your discretion. Some fine dining restaurants may add a 10% service charge + tourism charge which is shown on the bill. RAMADAN: 15 May-14 June 2018 Often referred to as the holy month, Ramadan is an Islamic religious period whose duration is a maximum of 30 days. Dates change annually. During this time, shopping + business hours are often reduced. Though hotels of an international standard are usually not overly affected, there may be restrictions such as nonserving/limited service of alcohol +/or restrictions on food service during the daylight hours as well as some restrictions to entertainment. It is viewed as a sign of respect if visitors also refrain eating, drinking + smoking in public during the daylight hours of Ramadan. A more conservative dress code is recommended during the month of Ramadan, especially when travelling outside of the hotels + resorts. Swimwear + items such as strapless tops + sleeveless dresses should not be worn in public places.
