The Adelaide Convention Bureau looks forward to welcoming you as a member to work together to advance Adelaide and South Australia s position as a world leading business events destination. Damien Kitto Chief Executive Officer

Adelaide Convention Bureau Overview Adelaide, South Australia is one of the most diverse and welcoming business events destinations. An exceptional mix of appealing business event experiences, convenient accessibility, world famous wines, culinary genius and exceptional value for money ensures an engaging destination with the ability to deliver a world class event. Celebrating 40 years in 2014 the Adelaide Convention Bureau is a private sector, non-profit, membership based organisation supported by the South Australian Tourism Commission, Adelaide City Council and its industry members. As the peak body for business events in South Australia, the Bureau is the official organisation responsible for promoting Adelaide and South Australia as a desirable business event and incentive destination. It actively identifies and pursues business development opportunities for the state locally, nationally and internationally to convention, meeting, exhibition and incentive travel buyers. The business events team maintains an extensive database of association and corporate bodies, identifying suitable opportunities and converting sales leads by direct communication and strategic relationship management with decision-makers. The Bureau also provides a range of services to its locally based members, which may either be of an advisory nature or directly assists them in securing business related to convention and/or incentive travel.

Adelaide Convention Bureau Overview The Importance of Business Events Business events produce the highest daily yield of any sector of the tourism industry. Indeed in South Australia, business visitation contributes more than $1 billion to the state s economy with many of the state s 56,000 direct and indirect tourism jobs attributed to the business event and hospitality sector. Recent industry figures indicate that a national delegate on average stays 5 days and spends $732 a day in South Australia, whilst a company visiting to exhibit their wares at a conference may spend up to $77,000 during their stay. In addition to direct delegate spend research indicates that for every $1m generated by a conference 9 jobs are generated in the economy. Business events deliver beyond tourism through an extensive pool of unmeasured industry and community value. Among the many benefits and flow on affects, business events promote and showcase South Australia s expertise and innovation to the world, attracting global leaders who would have not otherwise come to South Australia. Conventions can also generate significant business and investment opportunities. Increasing Business Opportunities The Adelaide Convention Bureau s individual promotions and activities in the business events market, injects $100m+ into the South Australian economy each year representing a return of investment to members of 50:1. Although the market place and economy remains challenged the Bureau increased its sales and business development activity, with bid submissions up 16% on target in 2012/13. Confirmed business for 2014 represent 52,000 international and national delegates, which generates 370,000 bed nights and delivers $150m+ into the state s economy. The Conventions Adelaide program continues to develop and expand leading to more high yielding international events being secured (up 22% on target). A major factor in the success of this program is a powerful and expanding Ambassador Group now comprising of 80 leaders of industry, academia and politics. Destination SA remains our destination s most potent business events conversion tool and is a significant contributor to this overall result. There are plenty of exciting opportunities for members to secure business in the future, as currently the Bureau has an estimated $220 million of business opportunities in its sales pipeline.

Key Initiatives & Programs Key initiatives and programs of the Adelaide Convention Bureau, designed to assist the organisation in achieving its goals, include... Destination SA is an exciting annual business events showcase held in Adelaide, South Australia and presents the best experiences, products and services available within the destination to the organisers of all types of business-focussed events. Guests of the event are conference, convention, event and incentive organisers from across Australia and the Asia Pacific. Destination SA creates highly effective business to business opportunities showcasing South Australia s business event industry to fully qualified hosted guests. Destination SA has forged a deserved reputation as one of Australia s comprehensive and targeted business events showcases. A highly strategic initiative, the Conventions Adelaide program, offers the support, networks and world leading expertise necessary to ensure convention bids and programs are a success. Conventions Adelaide has formally engaged backing from a network of over 80 Ambassadors who are all leaders in their respective areas of speciality and industry sectors. This group includes Ministers, the Lord Mayor, the Governor of South Australia, state government executives, University Vice Chancellors and Professors, heads of research institutions and senior corporate executives. Working with the Adelaide Convention Bureau and industry partners, the Ambassadors advise and open doors within their networks, assisting to establish the support base necessary for conference bids and programs. Importantly, such engagement also supports a convention s goal of creating long lasting social and political legacies. Incentive travel is an important and relevant market to Adelaide and wider South Australia. Through the Incentives Adelaide program, the Adelaide Convention Bureau harnesses the expertise of innovative South Australian operators to offer international and Australian incentive organisers bespoke experiences that are second to none. The program caters for the needs of incentives groups large and small, and works to produce itineraries that offer a break from the norm, characterised by South Australia s own unique blend of excitement, nature, culture and cuisines. The Incentives Adelaide program is promoted to market the market via interactive educational experiences, via the Bureau s extensive digital platform, at trade shows, during direct client visits, and through the Bureau s strategic partners such as the South Australian Tourism Commission and Tourism Australia.
