We hope the following information will assist you with your attendance at the Congress and make your stay in Montreal easier to plan and more enjoyable. Bank Opening Hours and Banking Facilities Generally, weekday hours for banks are 10am 4pm. You will find branches of all the major high street banks in Montreal City Centre. There is an ATM machine located on the Convention Center ground floor, beside the metro entrance inside the convenience store Couche Tard. Car Hire There are several car rental companies based at Montreal Airport. For advance bookings please visit: http://www.admtl.com/passagers/accesetstationnement/locationvoitures.aspx to see different car rental agencies. Catering Tea and coffee during the official afternoon breaks is included in your registration fee. Coffee stations and food concessions are open to delegates in Convention Centre, both in the Exhibit Hall (level 2) and in the lobby of the meeting room floor (level 5). In addition to this, there are a large number of restaurants for all budgets within easy walking distance from Convention Centre. Check-In/Check-Out Times at Hotels Check-in times are at 3pm Check-out times are at 12pm, should you wish to check out later, please check with the hotel directly Climate Weather in Montreal during the month of October can be pleasant with an average temperature of 13 C/ 55 F although an umbrella is a sensible precaution as the weather in Québec can be unpredictable. Cloakroom There will be a cloakroom open at the Convention Centre on Tuesday, October 1 st and on Friday October 4 th, 2013, from 7am to 6:30pm. There will be a charge of $2.00 per item. Congress Venue The Congress will take place at Montreal Convention Center. For further information on the Conference Centre please visit www.congresmtl.com. Credit Cards Most shops and restaurants accept major credit cards. The most commonly accepted cards are: Visa, MasterCard and American Express. Electricity The voltage in is 110 volts (60 cycles), the same as the United States. You may require an adapter or converter if coming from abroad. Final Program The final program is available for download on the website and on the mobile app to help you plan your time at the Congress. A printed copy will be available inside each delegate bag. Any chances to reservations or special needs should be communicated directly to your confirmed hotel. Information for tourists For tourist information, contact any tourist offices in Montreal. All invited speakers are requested to go to the Speaker Ready Room to upload their PowerPoint presentation file(s) as soon as they have picked up their badges and congress materials. Computers are available to invited speakers wishing to review or modify their presentation. In addition, room 521B has been set up as a practice room for speakers with a podium and lectern. Speakers wishing to book this space can sign up for the space in the Speaker Ready Room. Please note that all speakers should submit their presentation to the Speakers Ready Room no less than 3 hours in advance of their session. Speakers with early morning sessions are required to submit their material no later than 17:00 on the evening before their session is scheduled. Insurance All delegates are reminded to take out their own travel and cancellation insurance. Internet There will be an Internet Café in the Exhibition Area, situated on Level 2 of the Convention Centre. Also, free Wi-fi is available to registered delegates inside the Convention Center including the ZAP zone, for the duration of the congress. Network name and Password: wpc_2013 Most hotels offer Internet facilities, however, if you require these facilities at your hotel you should check with your hotel the cost of this service, as this varies from hotel to hotel. Mobile Apps The free WPC 2013 mobile app is available for download. It will enable the delegates to carry the WPC details, including program, general information and side activities, on your Smartphone or tablet. You can also visit the App Store online and look for World Parkinson Congress 2013. Motoring/ Driving while in Québec You can use your own driving license to drive in Québec for up to 12 months, but please make sure you have it with you at all times. (Please remember to drive on the right hand side of the road.) Wearing seat belts in the front and back 2

seats is compulsory. There are heavy penalties in Québec for driving whilst under the influence of alcohol. You are strongly advised not to drink and drive. Newspapers Montreal has four daily newspapers The Gazette is the only one in English. The three French language newspapers are: Le Devoir, La Presse and Le Journal de Montréal. Métro and 24H are the two free tabloids publish on weekdays. They are distributed mostly throughout the metro system. Opening Ceremony The Opening Ceremony will take place on Tuesday, October 1 st from 6:30pm 7:30pm Room 517ABC. Post Offices Post Offices are usually open from 9am to 5:30pm Monday to Friday. Post Offices are closed on Sundays. There are also numerous post office counters in convenience stores and they are likely to have other schedules. Phone The island of Montreal uses the 514 area code. For international calls, make sure to add 011 from and 001 to. Parkinson s Quilt Project Shown for just the second time in its entirety at the WPC 2013 (initially unveiled at WPC 2010), the Parkinson s Quilt Project, composed of 41 quilts and on display in Foyer 510-511, is the first ever global Parkinson s Quilt designed to recognize and honor the millions of people who live with Parkinson s globally. The Quilt Project, developed by the Parkinson s Disease Foundation, was designed to raise awareness of the impact Parkinson s has on people living with it along with their families, caregivers, and friends as well as on the need for a continued urgency to find a cure. Participants are invited to sign the WPC 2013 Living Quilt in Foyer 517. Registration Registration will take place in Viger Hall 4 of Montréal Convention Centre. You will be able to collect your delegate badge and congress materials at the registration desk. We suggest you bring a printed copy of your confirmation email or an ID Card, which will ease the registration procedure. Please note that badges must be worn at all times. Many buildings have cigarette disposal arrangements outside. You must be 18 years or older to buy tobacco in Quebec. Social Functions The dress code for the Welcome Reception is smart casual. Stores and Shopping Stores in Montreal are generally open from 9am to 6pm (Saturday, Monday-Wednesday), 9am 9pm (Thursday- Friday) and 12 5pm (Sunday). Not all retailers are open on Sunday. Tipping A tip of 15% is usually left for waiters and waitresses at the table, calculated on the pre-tax total of the bill. Time Montreal is in the Eastern Time zone of North America, 4 hours behind Greenwich Mean Time during the summer (Eastern Daylight, EDT) and 5 hours during the winter (Eastern Standard, EST). In French and sometimes in English you will see times quoted in 24-hour format, e.g. 20h30 is the same as 8:30pm. Transportation from airport Pierre Elliott Trudeau International airport is located about 22 km west of downtown and serves all domestic, U.S. and international passenger flights. A taxi ride from the downtown area to Trudeau Airport costs a flat rate of $40.00 not including tip. A public airport shuttle, the 747, runs 24/7 from the downtown area to the airport. It is equipped with luggage racks and accepts regular STM tickets and passes although cash fare is $9 (exact change & coins only). Transport to Convention Centre Palais des Congrès Public transport is available to and from Palais des Congrès. If you are planning to take any public transportation while your stay in Montreal, please note that 1 trip is $3.00 per person, and you can purchase the tickets at the metro stations. Should you be taking the bus, note that you will need exact change. Most Buses and metro start running as of 5:30am and the last runs are at 12:30am on weekdays and until 1:00am on Weekends. To and From Montreal: Buses : The main bus terminus is the Gare d'autocars de Montréal on Berri between Ontario and de Maisonneuve streets. Metro station Berri-UQÀM. Trains: The major downtown train station is the Central Station (Gare Centrale) which is connected to the Bonaventure metro station. You can reserve train tickets on Via Rail on the company s website: http://www.viarail.ca/fr or get them from the travel agent. Amtrak runs the Adirondack train from Montreal to New York daily. This is currently the only train connection from Montreal to the United States. Tours Delegates can purchase tour tickets at the tour desk located in Viger Hall (level 2). All tours depart from the Palais des congrès. The meeting point is in Viger Hall (level 2) 20 minutes before tour start time. For more information, visit the tour desk. Welcome Reception The Welcome Reception will take place on Tuesday, October 1 st in the Exhibit Hall (Room 220CDE) from 7:30pm 9:30pm. Wine and canapés will be served at this function. Wheelchairs Participants requiring wheelchairs during the 3 rd World Parkinson Congress are strongly encouraged to bring their own or rent one from one of the suppliers listed below. Please note that the Palais des congrès has a restricted number of wheelchairs available onsite for emergencies only. These wheelchairs will not be available for rent during the congress and will be lent for a limited period of time each day. J. Once they are sold out, they will no longer be available for sale. Proceeds from the sale of Parky the Racoon stuffed animals will go to the WPC 2016 Travel Grants program.
