The 30 meter high statue depicts the famous colonial Dominican priest who stood up for native population during times of colonial repressions in the 16th century. One obelisk is considered to be female, while the other a male. The two columns of this monument symbolically stand for the liberation of foreign debt. The monument was erected in 1940, in order to commemorate this historical feat. The special landmark is composed of its left half (toward the sea) constructed in polygonal form with five sides and two hoods. The three-sided Fort San Gil once served as protection from both sides of the beach as well as the sea. It is a wonderful place to spend some time at night. The large plaza (approx. 3902.46 sq. meters) offers a large variety of interesting destinations. The roads inside the plaza are designed for people who like to walk and ride bicycles as they wander through the plethora of restaurants and shops. The tower was created to honor the Mirabal sisters, victims who fought for their beliefs and convictions. The sisters were killed by dictator Trujillo. Life as I Pictured F) Restaurant Adrian Tropical Restaurant Adrian Tropical is a very famous dining spot. The restaurant is nearly built on the water, which only adds to its appeal. The service is great and food incredibly rich as well as traditional. Visitors generally love the taste of Dominican dishes and beverages, so make sure you dine here at least one night. The Guibia Beach is also famous for the fact that in 1998, the first professional "bodyboard" contest took place. Love the ocean? Than you'll love La playa de Guibia too. The complex is divided into four towers: Malecon 1, Malecon 2, Malecon 3 and Hilton Santo Domingo. The three Malecon towers each with a height of 122.4 m (402 ft) are the second tallest buildings in the Dominican Republic. Each Malecon tower has 31 floors and the Hilton Santo Domingo has 21 floors, for a total of 114 floors in the complex. The three Malecon towers, which were completed in 2003 are for residential use. The fourth tower in the complex, Hilton Santo Domingo is a hotel that was completed in 2004. Also included in the complex is a mall, movie theater and a casino. The complex is located near the shore and overlooks the Caribbean Sea.
