Self-exploration. Leadership. It all starts here, at YMCA Camps. At our camps, there are no classrooms or cliques, no homework or tests. Instead, there are opportunities for selfdiscovery, growth and skill building. At our camps, kids don t need cell phones to find each other or screens to keep them engaged. Friend requests happen in real time. The YMCA has been providing camps for more than 100 years to help children and youth build confidence, leadership skills and environmental awareness. Kids ages 5-17 can choose from a wide range of camps offered across the Lower Mainland, Fraser Valley and Sunshine Coast during the summer months and school breaks. Day camps keep kids active, enable them to make new friends and acquire valuable skills, all while staying close to home at a local camp. Overnight camp, at YMCA Camp Elphinstone on the beautiful Sunshine Coast, offers a unique opportunity to educate and empower kids with the skills to become future leaders. Along with traditional camp options, we offer a range of specialty camps geared toward the interests of children, from hiking to golf to sailing. Regardless of which camp you choose, at the Y, we ll help your kids learn new skills, make lasting memories and be active in a safe, fun and nurturing environment. We can t wait to meet your kids! Sincerely, Your YMCA Camps Team 3

4 Overnight Camps With an emphasis on building independence and personal development, campers gain confidence in the overnight camp setting. Campers learn new skills and challenge themselves with camp-favourite activities like canoeing or ropes courses. From specialized sailing or hiking camps to shorter introductory sessions for little ones, we have something for everyone. YMCA Camp Elphinstone Surrounded by temperate rainforest and the rocky shoreline of Howe Sound, YMCA Camp Elphinstone s 144 acres lets campers experience the beauty of the Pacific Northwest. Located on B.C. s Sunshine Coast near Gibsons, just a 40-minute ferry ride from Vancouver, Camp Elphinstone offers a variety of traditional and specialized programming. All overnight camps take place at YMCA Camp Elphinstone. A typical day 8:00 a.m. Optional Activity 9:15 a.m. Breakfast 10:00 a.m. Cabin Clean-Up 10:30 a.m. Camp Activities 1:15 p.m. Lunch 2:30 p.m. Rest Time * Times and days may vary. 3:00 p.m. Interest Groups 6:15 p.m. Dinner 7:00 p.m. Free Choice Activities 7:45 p.m. Evening Program 8:45 p.m. Evening Snack 9:15 p.m. In Cabins Schedules are planned around four types of programs: Cabin Choice allows campers to participate in a variety of activities as a cabin, helping to build friendships and develop teamwork. Interest Groups allow campers to choose their own skill-based activities to focus on each day of overnight camp. Freebies are short blocks of activities chosen by campers that focus on fun and adventure with friends. Section Programs are group activities that campers enjoy together, like camp-wide games, campfires, or skit nights.

What s special about YMCA camp is that it s a place where you get to meet new people and have an experience you wouldn t normally have One and Two Week Camps (7 15 years) Working together with cabin-mates, campers choose activities that meet their interests and skill levels. Campers build friendships as they engage in exciting activities alongside one another sailing, archery, climbing, ropes courses and so much more. Campers live in cabins with up to ten children close in age, along with two experienced group leaders. McNabb Camp (5 8 years) A perfect introduction to overnight camp for little ones (or their parents!), this camp offers younger campers a shorter, three-night camp experience that focuses on creating a comfortable environment for many campers first time away from home. 5

Sailing Camp (11 14 years) Where better to develop sailing skills than serene Howe Sound? Campers receive daily instruction on topics such as rigging, wind dynamics and boat care from qualified instructors. Campers work on CANSail levels and participate in various camp activities. One- and two-week options are available. Black Tusk Camp (12 14 years) Campers are challenged with a scenic four-day hike surrounding Garibaldi Lake. Perfect for kids who are new to out tripping, campers form friendships and develop leadership skills in a focused team-building environment. Desolation Sound Camp (13 15 years) This two-week camp features an eight-day canoe or kayak trip through one of the most breathtaking coastal settings in Canada. Campers develop confidence and teamwork skills while being introduced to wilderness living. An excellent pre-leadership Development experience, campers must be prepared to work together on trip planning and execution. 6

Many campers grow up to be part of our dedicated YMCA staff team, and our two-year Leadership Development program is designed to help them reach this goal. Youth also learn valuable leadership skills that are transferable to a broad spectrum of life or work situations. Skills like teamwork, self-discipline and initiative help campers succeed in this program. Leadership Development 1 (15 16 years) This two-week program teaches campers the technical skills associated with delivering camp activities while focusing on team building. Campers participate in an out trip experience and are offered the opportunity to build strong, lasting friendships in a positive and constructive setting. Youth gain a solid foundation in delivering all types of camp programming while learning how to support others. Leadership Development 2 (16 17 years) This three-week program allows campers the chance to apply skills learned in Leadership Development 1 and continue to grow as leaders. This program emphasizes initiative, communication and the group care skills necessary to be a strong leader in a camp setting or elsewhere. Participants work directly with groups of young campers to practice their teaching and group care skills. Applicants must successfully complete a telephone interview before final acceptance into the program. LD2 Participants are selected based on leadership interest, experience and potential. Campers receive instruction and examination in Bronze Medallion/Bronze Cross. Some school districts may accept these certifications towards partial credits. Please note that YMCA volunteers must be 17 years old and YMCA staff must be 18 years old by the first day of summer camp. For these reasons, we strongly suggest campers be the minimum age listed before they join the program. 7
