S o u t h e r n N e v a d a C h a p t e r, I n c. # 2 7 3 5 The Director s Saddle Well here we are, another year almost complete. It doesn t seem possible, or where did the time go (how many times have we heard that). While I was struggling with the article for the February newsletter I thought December would never get here. Now, sadly it is here. This is where I usually go crazy with that emotion stuff. But, not this time. As I look back on the year I can remember a lot of fun and happy times. D E C E M B E R, 2 0 1 2 It seems some of my memorable moments came during our overnight rides. The Yuma ride was like old home week to some, it included a tour through the Yuma Territorial Prison. Our usual hotel provides an open bar for happy hour before dinner. Thus the dinner had a bit of entertainment. The Tucson ride was a fantastic and fun ride. Claudia, being new to the Activity Officer s game, thought all the hotels provided use with some type of cocktail party like Yuma did, so she proceeded to twist arms until she got a margarita party in Tucson that lasted for two days; Go Claudia! Contrary to popular belief Tucson has so much to see and enjoy. I think it is going to take several years to be able to see it all. I did get the Tucson wineries off my list this year. Some went to the aircraft museum, others took a very chilly ride to the mountains, and so on. We tried a new destination for April, Bishop CA. As usual the ride to and from was great. Going through Death Valley was very enjoyable and scenic. Continued on Page 2 S.N.H.O.G. Continued from page 1 Director s Saddle...continued The Director s Saddle...continued The distance from Las Vegas is just about perfect, it doesn t require a real early start and you arrive in time to enjoy some great conversation with your fellow chapter members before dinner. Word to the wise, make sure the trouble makers have finished partying and gone to bed before attempting to get any sleep. They have been known to kick the crap out of your door if they think you re TRYING TO sleep. Don t worry Donna and Clar, I won t tell, your identity is SAFE with me. I did learn that a smile is required from the director at ALL TIMES. The only thing I can say about Torrey is that Speedo created a fantastic ride for us on the middle day (3 day ride). During our very scenic ride the weather looked a bit threatening and so I made the call to stop and put on rain gear, which in itself was worth the trip. I think I laughed a bit too loud at Tom and later in the ride he used my name and sheep in the same sentence and thus a new patch was created and now resides on my vest. Sheep Fear Me I know nothing of the details on how or why. Unfortunately I was unable to make the LOH ride to the Rachel Day Parade. As story's were told the Chapter was a big hit in the parade. I have it from reliable sources, the Chapter was the parade. The rest of the story should come from one of the many participants. Early in the year (March) the weather forced us to cancel the traditional Larry Kusler Beatty Bar-B-Q. We were fortunate to be able to reschedule it for late September. This ride was to include a tour to Scotty s Castle. But again, the Scotty s Castle Curse prevailed. In all the times we have put Scotty s Castle on the ride schedule we have only made it to the castle once since I have been in the Chapter. This year it rained the month prior and closed the roads, they were still closed when we arrived. So we had some extra time on our hands and a couple of open bars, guess what? This year we were able to schedule some live entertainment and twist some arms to get an entire stage provided. I believe the bands Joie and the Fulco s and Hot Rod Deville entertained not only the Chapter but the entire town of Beatty and several tourists on their way through. This event turned out to be an OMG. FYI, if you missed the entertainment they will be playing at our Christmas party as well. There were far too many rides to mention them all and I don t believe there was a bad one in the bunch. The officers did a fantastic job this year and I want to thank each and every one of them. Some had a lot of time to dedicate and other not so much, but every minute was needed and very much appreciated. Thank you all for a very memorable year. I can t speak for the entire chapter but I had a great time, and I hope you did as well. Merry Christmas Happy New Year And may 2013 be one of your best. Gary Childers Director 2012 "Life is short - drink the good wine first!" Page 2

Road Captain s Message By Jim Speedo Larson Holiday Season Greetings Southern Nevada HOG s The holiday season has begun. I hope everybody had a great Thanksgiving and will be able to enjoy the holidays by spending time with your family and friends. The Road Captains would like to wish you and your family a safe and happy holiday season. This has been a great year for me. It has been a pleasure seeing so many of you on our rides and overnighters. I have enjoyed being your Lead Road Captain for the past year and plan on continuing to be a Road Captain in 2013. I would like to thank this year s Road Captains for all the time, effort and hard work they do as a team. You have done an outstanding job ensuring the safety and enjoyment of our members on chapter rides. Without you, we would not be what we are, one of the greatest HOG Chapters. Again Thank you. The chapter has had some great rides and overnighters in 2012. Hopefully you have had a chance to get out and ride with your chapter. Again this year, the Mid-Week Rides have been very successful. We have averaged 17 bikes and 160 miles on the Mid-Week Rides. It s great our chapter has a monthly ride for the members that can t ride on the weekends do to their work schedules. Don t forget, you can always tell your boss that you are sick and come join us on the Mid-Week Rides. There are still a couple of rides left this year. The last overnighter of the year will be to Lake Havasu on December 1 st 2 nd. If you haven t seen the Parade of Lights on Lake Havasu, make plans to join us on the Lake Havasu Overnighter. Then we have our annual SNHOG Charity Ride. Again his year, we have chosen the Nevada Childhood Cancer Foundation as our Charity. The last ride of the year will be the monthly Mid-Week ride. As I tell the members on the Mid-Week Rides, this will be a great ride we have no adult supervision. Don t forget the chapter Christmas Party on December 15 th. This party is always a lot of fun; great atmosphere, good food, a few drinks, socializing and a little dancing. Rumors have it that this year the music will be provided by a band. As the saying goes, a good time will be had by all. I look forward to seeing you there. For everybody that survives New Years Eve, remember to mark your calendars for our annual Hair of the HOG ride on January 1 st. See you on the next ride Ride Safe and Have Fun Jim Speedo Larson Lead Road Captain ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ SPECIAL NOTE TO SPEEDO Gary, I wanted to send along my thanks and compliments to the SNHOG members that helped make our visit to Las Vegas a great one. Jim (Speedo) and 10 other members met my wife and I at the dealership on a Tuesday morning and acted as tour guides, taking us to Hoover Dam and then a ride thru the Lake Mead Conservation area eating lunch at Sugar's. Then the following morning Jim and JB? met me and we road to Kingman and then on OLD Rt66 arriving for lunch in Lake Havasu City. What a great time!!!! I wish I had more time to ride while there. Your folks were wonderful hosts and very skilled riders and I hope you will pass along my info should any of your members visit our area in Northern Virginia (by DC) so I could return the favor. I will be putting together an article for our newsletter and will send it to you when completed. Best regards, John Murphy Director Fairfax, VA Harley Owners Group Page 3

New Member Notes I joined SNHOG in June. When I joined I was looking for people to ride with, to discover places that I wouldn't dream of going on my own, and to make some friends that had a love for "the ride." For me these qualities were vital because I am a new rider (I have only been riding since April 2); I knew only 3 people that rode, so I had no one to ride with. My first encounter with the chapter was while I was gassing up one weekend morning. There they were, a newbie s dream. I rode up, introduced myself, and asked questions. The ambassador in charge of new members gave me her card; she sent me info via email. All of that made me feel so welcome awesome job, Minnie! My point to this brief write up is that I wanted to go for a small ride for breakfast, some place I hadn't ridden to before. But I didn't want to ride alone. I posted on Facebook that I woke up craving Cracker Barrel. Donna saw this, and she posted that she would go with me. (See, my membership was working just as I d hoped!) Donna also posted an invite to other chapter members. We agreed to meet the next morning. I wish I could have photographed the smile on my face when I pulled up and there were 8 people waiting to ride to breakfast! It was like my birthday! After another stop we picked up 3 more! We were planning on riding to Overton, NV; however, Sugar's isn't open on Mondays. It was decided that we would go to Muddy River. Where is that you might ask? Trust me, me too. It happens to be a little town on the way to Utah. A town I would have never pulled off the highway to explore by myself. (See, membership at work again!) Even better sharing a meal with new friends! Thank you SNHOG members for making me feel so welcome and sharing your ride with me. Kendria Page 4

Welcome New Members New Members Wayne & Pat Crouse, Craig McCormack, Daniel Casillas Sr., And Warren S. Hill Jr. (Jack) are shown with A.J. Morgan Asst. Director Make Your Miles Count (Mileage Program) HOG is all about riding and having fun. The HOG Mileage Program rewards you for doing what we all love to do most ride. The more miles you log on your Harley, the more recognition you receive. Pins, patches, motorcycle medallions all awarded to you because you ride. A HOG Mileage Program pin and patch will be sent to all HOG members upon enrollment in the program. If you have more than one motorcycle, be sure to enroll each additional bike. After enrollment, additional awards can be earned by achievement of the mileage levels listed in your HOG Membership Manual and online at members.hog.com, starting at just 1,000 miles. Don t waste another mile! Take part in the Mileage Program and make every mile count! Friendly Reminder... Be sure to visit our online PHOTO GALLERY at http://snhoglv.com/gallery/ Photographs are such a great way to remember events in our lives. Our SNHOG Online Photo Gallery is also a great way to share the fun we have as a Chapter with friends, family and anyone who is skeptical about joining our Chapter. All you have to do is browse the gallery for a few minutes and will quickly realize we ride and have fun all year round! Although Beverly Kusler, Donna Yada, Dave Fraley, John Grambo, Jay Gordon, Jason Jenkins, and Penny Carver are the "photographers" for the Chapter, they are obviously not the only ones who take pictures at our events. If you have photos you would like to submit, please send them to photos@snhoglv.com. Be sure to include the date and event the photos were taken and any other description you would like included. We will also be happy to post your name, crediting you with the photos you've taken. thanks so much *** Note: If you prefer not to have your photo on the website, request a photo be removed or photo information updated, please let us know and we ll make the changes as soon as possible.
