CONGRATULATIONS ARE IN ORDER!! The Florida Airports Council recognized the Naples Municipal Airport Water Management System Improvements and Taxiway A Extension project with the 2015 J. Bryan Cooper Environmental Award, General Aviation Airport. The winning project includes two components that provide conventional and state-of-the-art solutions for waterquality and noise issues. Airport ponds were reconfigured to improve pollutant filtering and discourage wildlife, which pose a threat to aircraft. Taxiway A was extended to encourage aircraft to use the full length of the runway, so that aircraft are flying higher when they leave airport property. Kerry Keith, Director of Planning and Facilities, was appointed to the Florida Airports Council s Board of Directors for a three (3) year term. CONGRATS KERRY!

P A G E 3 IT S A BIRD IT S A PLANE NOPE IT S A DRONE! Before you take that drone out for a flight, check out http://knowbeforeyoufly.org. This website provides information to the public on what they need to know before they use/fly a drone. The paragraphs below were copied from the website: Know Before You Fly is an education campaign founded by the Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International (AUVSI), the Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA), and the Small UAV Coalition in partnership with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to educate prospective users about the safe and responsible operation of unmanned aircraft systems (UAS). As excitement and enthusiasm continues to grow around UAS, and the regulatory framework continues to take shape, more consumers are looking to buy UAS for personal use and more businesses are looking to use UAS too. These prospective operators want to fly, and fly safely, but many don t realize that, just because you can buy a UAS, doesn t mean you can fly it anywhere, or for any purpose. Know Before You Fly provides prospective users with the information and guidance they need to fly safely and responsibly. GROUP MEETINGS, ETC. P A G E 4 UPCOMING EVENTS EVENTS AT THE MUSEUM OF MILITARY MEMORABILIA During the month of August, the Holocaust Museum s boxcar, which likely was used for deportation during the Holocaust in World War II, will be on display at the airport s Commercial Airline Terminal. A 12-panel exhibit travels with the boxcar and highlights the Holocaust deportation, as well as genocides in other places over the past 200 years. A rare artifact built in 1919, this boxcar is a mobile educational tool that supports the museum s mission of promoting respect and understanding by teaching the history and lessons of the Holocaust. It is on loan to the Holocaust Museum from Jack and F.E. Nortman, the Nortman Family and The Boxcar Foundation. To learn more, visit www.holocaustmuseumswfl.org. On Saturday, 15 Aug., the Museum of Military Memorabilia will commemorate the 70th anniversary of V-J Day. Victory over Japan Day marks the day Japan surrendered, effectively ending World War II. From 9AM until 4PM, the museum will feature expanded displays, including vintage military vehicles. A bell-ringing ceremony will be conducted at 11AM, followed by patriotic music at noon both Saturday and Sunday. On Sunday, 16 Aug., the museum will commemorate National Airborne Day and the 75th anniversary of the first official Army parachute jump. Activities will include the posting of the colors at 10AM by the U.S. Paratrooper Club s honor guard from Port Charlotte, the National Anthem at 10:50AM and an invocation at 11:10AM. The Museum of Military Memorabilia, founded in 2006, has collected more than 11,000 pieces with the goals of honoring the veterans who have and are protecting the cause of freedom, preserving artifacts associated with military history, and creating a greater understanding of military conflicts among present and future generations. The museum is located in the Commercial Airline Terminal, at the south end of the airport along North Road at 500 Terminal Drive. Parking and admission are free. OTHER CONFIRMED UPCOMING EVENTS BaconFest is scheduled to take place in the Commercial Terminal grass area on 14 November 2015. For more information, visit their website at: baconfestnaples.com.
