Girl Scouts of Area 10 Day Camp June 18-22, 2018 8:30 a.m. 3:30 p.m. Camp Shantituck Shepherdsville, KY Registration Opens March 15

Do you have some time you can give to camp? This camp is staffed by volunteers who give their time freely so that all interested girls may attend camp. We are looking for adults to help provide this wonderful experience for girls. To accommodate all the girls who want to attend camp, lots of adults are needed. No previous experience is required! All volunteers receive training for their job and support from other adults. Volunteering at camp is a unique opportunity to positively impact your camper and have a great time doing it! Volunteers are needed to work directly with units and also to offer special programs such as crafts, photography, environmental activities, and so on. In fact, almost any skill or interest you can share can probably be used! Archery Fire Building Nature Education Sketching Bicycling Whittling Canoeing Outdoor Cooking Storytelling Camp Craft Games Dramatics First Aid/CPR Weather Nature Crafts Pioneer Crafts Hiking Singing Help us protect you and your camper! Here at GSK, the health and safety of our girls is our top priority. All camp volunteers must be members of the Girl Scouts and complete a criminal background check. To volunteer, please visit our website at www.gskentuckiana.org and click on the Volunteer button below the picture. Membership is $25 and expires on September 30 th of the current troop year. Once you complete your membership registration, you will receive an email with directions on how to submit your criminal background check. This background check costs $8 and is good for three years. Who May Attend Any girl may attend camp; however, she must join the Girl Scouts. Visit our website at www.gskentuckiana.org and click on Join. Membership is $40 and expires September 30 th of the current troop year. Financial Assistance Financial assistance is available to registered Girl Scouts. Mail the Financial Assistance Request with your other camp forms to the camp registrar. The Girl Scout office will notify both you and the camp registrar of the decision concerning your financial assistance. Each family must be prepared to pay some portion of the fee. Refunds The camp registration fee may be refunded for a cancellation due to illness, family emergency, or relocation. Check with your camp registrar for details. Lost and Found Please label all belongings with your name. Promptly contact the camp director about lost items. Girl Scouts of Kentuckiana and camp staff cannot be responsible for loss of or damage to campers personal belongings. Website More information about camps can be found on the GSK website www.gskentuckiana.org. Just follow the Camps link and then Day Camps & Camporees. Resident Camp Fun! Resident camp is the heart and soul of the summer camp experience. Caring Counselors guide girls to make life long memories, new friends, and discover the pleasure of the outdoors. Girls will be challenged to try new things and will come back a more courageous and confident girl of character. Register via MyGS by May 31 st. Camp is Out of This World Camp Shantituck 3825 E. Hebron Lane, Shepherdsville, KY 40165 Heather Frost, Camp Director June 18-22, 2018 Monday Thursday 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Friday 8:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Camp Fee: $95.00 per camper Bus Fee: $20 per person Fee includes: Shirt, patch, pool, camp activities, snacks, and some meals. Out of this world! What can be better than a week of day camp? Of course, it would not be day camp unless we planned some cook-outs, went swimming at the pool every day, visited the crafts center, sang a bunch of crazy songs, explored the creek, and more. Every day begins and ends as we honor the American flag with a ceremony. Brownies and Juniors will complete some badge work, too. Parents: If you have contacts with organizations or individuals who might do a program that would fit in with these ideas, be sure to pass on the information to Heather Frost at frostgalsmom@gmail.com. Camp is such a great opportunity to build girls of courage, confidence, and character the Girl Scout Mission and our mission --to make the world a better place. Don t miss the chance to share this fun with the girls. It s well worth taking some time off from your day job to make an investment in young people that will be most rewarding. TRANSPORTATION: Bus: Bus fee is $20 per person; no partial bus fees are accepted. School buses will pick-up at Tully Elementary and Klondike Elementary at 7:45 a.m. Camper must be at site by 7:30 a.m. Bus will return to site by 4:30 p.m. Please note early day pick-up at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. Bus assignment and schedule will be included with confirmation letter. Buses fill up fast and space is assigned on basis of first registered, first served. Car: Car riders need to arrive at camp between 8:15 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. Campers will be ready to leave camp by 3:30 p.m. and need to be picked up by 3:45 p.m. OVERNIGHT: Day camp includes one overnight experience on Wednesday night. Younger campers spend the night in a building and older ones stay in the tents. If your camper is not ready to stay overnight, you will need to make arrangements to pick your camper up between 4:30 p.m. - 4:45 p.m. on Wednesday and return her on Thursday morning by 8:30 a.m. We don t run buses on Wednesday afternoon or Thursday morning. We do expect that all of our Aides and Aides-in-Training will spend the night. **This overnight is dependent on camp having enough adult volunteers who will stay and is subject to cancellation at the time confirmation letters are sent if we do not have adequate coverage.

Staff and Aides Training: In addition to outdoor education classes offered by Girl Scouts of Kentuckiana, our staff will have the following trainings: Area 10 Day Camp Home Study: Area 10 Day Camp also includes an adult home study training module which will be sent to you via email in advance of camp. It s important that you complete it and return the follow up questionnaire per instructions included. Using this home study reduces the number of hours that we need to see our volunteer staff face-to-face before camp. June 7, (Thursday) 7:00 p.m. 9:00 p.m. ALL staff and ALL aides meeting. Orientation to day camp. Program for this year. Unit assignments and more. Attendance is mandatory. This is an in-town training, and the location is to be determined. June 17 (Sunday): Staff and Aides meeting at 2:00 p.m. at Camp Shantituck. Come at noon if you can help unload gear from the barn. Get unit lists and schedules along with last minute details. PROGRAM AIDES Every camp unit has adult leadership, but it also has older girl leaders who are called Program Aides. Girls who are entering 9th grade and above, and who are trained, can be Program Aides. All of these ladies are a huge asset to day camp, and we love em. Aides at Area 10 day camp come at no camp fee and receive a free patch and a free shirt. Aides do pay the bus fee if they are bus riders. If you want to be an Aide and are going into 9th grade and up, please complete the camper registration and health history. You need to send in your complete camp registration forms as soon as possible. We have a limited number of positions and they will fill on a first-come, first served basis, giving preference to those who have been aides previously and/or those who have completed our Aides-in-Training program, and to those who have a family member who is an adult volunteer for camp. You also need to complete the Aide questionnaire prior to camp. This questionnaire will be sent via email to each aide once her camp application is received. We sometimes have more girls who want to be aides than we have aide positions available, so be sure to take care of your registration and the questionnaire. Girls who are placed as aides for summer 2018 will be expected to participate in pre-camp trainings (see section above) and are expected to be there on Sunday, June 17th to help with set up. Aides are expected to spend the night with the unit where they are assigned. 6 th Grade Unit and 7 th Grade Unit We re planning a special day out of camp for you again this year. Closer to time for camp, we ll send you some detailed information about what to expect, what to bring, and what to wear for that day. We ll also include a specific permission form for your parents to sign for those activities. Girls in the 6 th and 7 th grade units are expected to participate in the overnight. Volunteers are absolutely essential! Area 10 needs women and men who can work with our campers all week. However, if you can only give us a couple of days, we will need your help then too. Let us know if you would like to help with grocery shopping or meal preparation rather than playing in the woods. Can you help set up the day before camp? Clean-up on the last day? Haul gear? It s a group effort. Please volunteer! Contact Heather Frost, frostgalsmom@gmail.com or (502) 533-6678.

Pixies and Boys For our adult volunteers who are parents of preschoolers and boys, we have groups at camp especially for them. We call the preschoolers, ages 4-5, Pixies! Boys of volunteers ages 6-11 can participate in the Boys Unit. Your pixie or boy can attend camp on the days that you are there to volunteer. There is no fee for these children to attend camp; however, a camp shirt for them will be $10.00 each. If ordering a shirt, please send $10.00 with the camp registration forms. Pixies do not spend the night at camp. Camp Registration form: The form is provided electronically this year. Follow this link: Health Form: There is a paper copy attached to this brochure or you may print from an electronic version of this brochure. It must be submitted with payment to Amy Ryan, Camp Registrar. T shirts: All campers, all aides, and all volunteers will receive a day camp shirt and a day camp patch. There is an option to purchase an additional shirt. Below is t-shirt sizing information to assist you. T-Shirt Size Youth: YS (6-8) YM (10-12) YL (14-16) Information Adult: S M L XL 2XL 3XL 4XL Unit Assignments Units are formed by grade level. Summer camp is NOT intended to be a troop camping experience. This is a great opportunity for you and your daughters to make new friends work with new adults, and experience new surroundings, ideas, and happenings. We will not put entire troops together as a unit. Also, adult volunteers will not be placed in the same unit with their daughters. If you feel that your daughter would best be served by being in a unit with one particular friend, find an option to make that request on the registration form. We will try to accommodate that request. Any questions please contact: Camp Director Heather Frost, frostgalsmom@gmail.com or 502 533-6678 Camp Registrar Amy Ryan, area10daycamp@outlook.com or 502 544-7309

REGISTRATION: Please Follow Instructions Carefully Registration for camp will be done online this year! Registration link will open 3/15/18 and will end on 4/30/18 or as soon as camp fills. Space availability per age group unit is limited. The first campers and aides who are placed are the children of adults volunteering as part of the camp staff. The remaining spaces are filled on a first-come, first served basis! Camp space is determined by safety limits at the pool, ratios of adults to girls, numbers of fire circles and shelters, and space to spend the night on Wednesday. For several years, we have had a waiting list for campers and aides, so don t delay. Links for Registration: Links will not open until 3/15/18 Adult - https://form.jotform.com/a10daycamp/camp-registration-form-adult Youth - https://form.jotform.com/a10daycamp/camp-registration-form-youth Payment must follow registration, unless it will be made by Kentuckiana Credits (cookie dough) or financial aid. Kentuckiana Credits are due by May 15 th. Any registration without complete payment by 5/15/18 is subject to cancellation, and girls on the waiting list will be placed. Mail Kentuckiana Credits to Area 10 Day Camp in care of Amy Ryan. See address below. Confirmation of registration: After we have our volunteer staff in place, we will know how many camp units we can have and how many girls we can accept. We will email a confirmation letter to you with added information. Or if we do not have enough room, we will notify you of that as well. Camp is very dependent on volunteer staff. A confirmation of your registration will be sent by 5/31/18. With this confirmation will also be information of all items needed for camp and what to wear. If possible, you will be notified sooner if camp is full and we cannot accommodate your camper or if the bus is full and we cannot provide transportation. ITEMS TO COMPLETE 1. Registration Form submitted electronically. (camper, pixie, boy, adult, aide) 2. Health History mailed (each adult/child coming to camp) 3. Fee Summary Print and mail with payment. 4.
