Pam gave a comprehensive report on her and Demelza's trip to NSW/Vic with visits to Silverton, Mildura, Broken Hill, Portland & Ballarat. KITT is very well known in southern states with both newspapers and television stations chasing them down to secure multiple interviews. Apparently the local constabulary were also enamoured of KITT, spending the best part of an hour looking at the car. KITT was also involved in fund-raising activities, with approx. $20,000.00 raised for one boy on the central NSW coast. An appearance was made at the Pontiac Nationals. 2. Julian reported on the TOTS Swap Meet at Cannon Park, which was very successful, with $4,000.00 raised for the Gordonvale Mens Shed. 61 cars were entered into the car show, with the Swap Meet 75% full numbers down due to less than favourable weather. 3. Bruce spoke on the Pontiac Nationals event held in Warwick over Easter that was also attended by the Moores and the Partingtons. A visit was also paid to the Burdekin Auto-fest on the return journey. 4. Taylor Summerville has purchased a new Mustang. 5. Mark Whitehead has been unwell lately, with some time spent in the Townsville Hospital fortunately things were not as serious as first thought and he is now at home. 6. Reese Pointing has been selected for the State Hockey Titles in the No. 1 team for Cairns tickets are available for a Mothers' Day Hamper to raise funds to assist with costs. 7. As 2017 is the 20 th Anniversary of the founding of this Club, suggestions are being sought from members as to how we should celebrate this milestone. Please contact any Committee member with your ideas. Next Meeting: 28 May 2017 Lotto see Helen T-Shirts & Caps: See Paula who has some old style Ladies shirts for sale @ $8 each. 2017 Pontiac Nationals : By Bruce Nancarrow The Pontiac Nationals have been held every 2 years since 1988 and I believe it is the largest regular gathering of Pontiacs outside of the US. They are held over the Easter weekend with different states alternating hosting the event. They were held at Warwick in 2011 and were there again this year and were hosted by the Queensland chapter of the Pontiac Car Club of Australia. In 2011 I trailered the 68 Firebird convertible and Kel trailered his 67 GTO convertible. It was our states turn again this year and we decided to drive our Bonnevilles and tow our vintage vans. The last big road trip for the Bonnevilles was when we purchased them in the US in 2012 when Helen and I did the trip from Victorville to St Charles in the 77 for the POCI convention and return to LA via Reno for Hot August nights. At that time Kel and Coral purchased the 60 Bonneville in Long Island and drove it back to LA via Chicago by the Lincoln highway and down to Reno then on to LA. On that trip we did approx. 5500 miles in the 77, Kel and Coral probably did close to 4000.. Since owning the 77 Bonneville I have had no issues and it has only required the usual maintenance such as grease and oil changes. Kel has reconditioned the 389 in the 60 and installed a tri power set up and gone for the dog dish hub cap look on 15inch wheels It is 1177 road miles to Warwick and as time was not an issue we planned a leisurely trip over 5 days staying at free or low cost camp sites on the way. We cruised just on or under the limit and we averaged a speed of 46mph moving time because of slow traffic, road works, lower speed limits through built up areas and country towns etc. We travelled down the coast road and through the area recently impacted by Cyclone Debbie and saw evidence of the destruction. We ran into Keith Freeman from Townsville at Home Hill who drove his gold 66 GTO down to Warwick. John and Paula came along as well in their Mustang and 1964 Gracemur caravan just for the fun of it. There was a section in the car show on Saturday for other makes where many locals showed a great variety of vehicles. The Nationals got off to a start on Friday afternoon with registration followed by an evening meet and greet in a local park. Saturday was the Pontiac and Friends car show with over 100 Pontiacs and other local cars. Saturday afternoon there was an observation run while others did scenic runs around the country side. Saturday evening there was a dinner followed by entertainment. Sunday morning there was a parade around the local race track Morgan Park where there was also the Pontiac Challenge driving events for some that entered. Sunday afternoon there were again cruises to local scenic areas. Sunday evening was the awards dinner and the event concluded on Monday morning with a breakfast meeting and farewell. Entrants came from most states and others also towed vans, the longest distance travelled was awarded to a convey from Victoria consisting of two 57 s and a 58 all towing vans.. We stayed a few extra days in Warwick and left on the Thursday following Easter and arrived home the following Monday. We planned the home trip to be in Ayr for the Burdekin Auto Festival on Sunday 23 rd where we caught up with a few old friends including club member Ellis Ramm who had his restored VC valiant on display. Overall we did 2465 miles on the trip without any problems to either the cars or the caravans. Fueling up the Bonnevilles at Marlborough State President & Nationals organizer Chris Malones 61. 4

Giggling Gertie s Gut-busting Jokes! New United slogans: 'Come for the seating, stay for the beating" "United Airlines. Putting the hospital in hospitality" "Our prices are unbeatable. But not our customers" "Board as doctors, leave as patients" "Early boarding, late boarding, water boarding, all the same to us" "We can't beat our competition, but we can beat you" "You are now free to be thrown around the cabin" Nobody ever said footballers were smart. 'I owe a lot to my parents, especially my mother and father.' (Shane Wakelin). 'Nobody in football should be called a genius. A genius is a guy like Norman Einstein,' (Mick Malthouse). 'I am going to finish my degree on time, no matter how long it takes' (Peter Bell - Fremantle - on his University Law studies). 'You guys line up alphabetically by height.' and 'You guys pair up in groups of three, then line up in a circle.' (Barry Hall Sydney Captain at training). Brock Maclean(Melbourne) on whether he had visited the Pyramids during his visit to Egypt: 'I can't really remember the names of the clubs that we went to.' 'He's a guy who gets up at six o'clock in the morning regardless of what time it is.' (Kevin Sheedy on James Hird). Jonathan Brown, on Night Games vs Day Games: 'It's basically the same, just darker.' Ron Barassi talking about Gary Cowton 'I told him, Son, what is it with you? Is it ignorance or apathy?' He said, 'Barass, I don't know and I don't care.' Barry Hall (Sydney) when asked about the upcoming season: I want to kick 70 or 80 goals this season, whichever comes first.' 'We actually got the winning goal three minutes from the end, but then they scored.' (Ben Cousins). I've never had major knee surgery on any other part of my body.' (Luke Darcy). 'That kick was absolutely unique, except for the one before it, which Was identical.' (Dermott Brereton). 'Sure there have been injuries and deaths in football - but none of them serious.' (Adrian Anderson). 'If history repeats itself, I should think we can expect the same.' (Andrew Demetriou). 'I would not say he (Chris Judd) is the best centerman in the AFL, but there are none better.' (Dermott Brereton). Garry Lyon:'Have you ever thought of writing your autobiography?' David Swartz: 'On what?' 'Well, either side could win it, or it could be a draw.' (Dermott Brereton). 2
