Welcome to Flying Green! Welcome to the race for the green. Like Global Warming, environmental issues in aviation are heating up. This year we have a number of new initiatives designed to help you get up to speed on all the latest. Our four Sunday tutorials will provide many attendees with in-depth info on the issues. We open Monday with a rousing Keynote address from John Kasarda who will astound us with his concept of the aerotropolis. Then six key stakeholders will square off to debate whether the public benefits of aviation outweigh the environmental impacts. Should be good fun. Our program this year covers many bases with offerings aimed at community groups, airports large & small, and technical folks. Community members are welcome to a special forum on Monday at 5pm. We are also holding our first Poster Session with breakthrough research and student work on display. Stop by for a visit on Tuesday after sessions in the main hotel lobby. We kick off with a Golf Scramble on Sunday morning sponsored by Era look for fun on the greens! Sunday night we will be welcomed in style at the welcoming reception. Put your musical talent into overdrive and join HMMH, Kaplan Kirsch & Rockwell, and C&S Engineers with a rollicking evening in the Horizon Ballroom. On Monday night Landrum & Brown & UC Davis have planned a lovely evening in the famous Palm Springs Air Museum. Hop the shuttle and network among the wonderful collection of antique aircraft and find out what others are doing. Our Sponsors & Exhibitors will be on hand to show off their most innovative technical solutions and services in the Horizon Ballroom Lobby and Foyer. Stop by for a look and a chat. Special thanks to our general sponsors the South Coast Air Quality Management District and the Bay Area Air Quality Management District. These two fine agencies are hard at work developing the latest methods to tackle California s air quality issues and the rest of the world pays attention. While you are here in Palm Springs I hope you have the chance to breathe deep the desert air, enjoy a nice meal at one of the areas fine restaurants, perhaps get out into the canyon for a hike or up the aerial tram for a magnificent view, or get out on the green for a round of golf at some of the areas fabled courses. There are also plenty of opportunities to shop, visit old Hollywood stars homes, take a swim or just bask in the sun. We are glad to have you with us and hope you will leave here FLYING GREEN Donna Reid, UC Davis 3
