VOLUNTEERS & PARK PARTNERS Volunteering with Parks and Recreation can be a fun and rewarding experience for all ages. Each year, volunteers provide thousands of hours of service to parks, programs and community centers, and have been essential to our success. Volunteers work in a variety of roles including providing tutoring, athletic coaching and mentoring to youth at community centers; planting flowers and helping with landscaping on park grounds; or assisting with special events such as the Ethnic Enrichment Festival, the Wilderness Run or Party in the Park. KC Parks has formal partnerships established with neighborhood, community, business and not-for-profit organizations for programs, events and projects. These partnerships allow our department to leverage resources and generate citywide interest and support for our system facilities, programs and events. We appreciate your support! Contact: parks.volunteer@kcmo.org PHOTO RELEASE Kansas City, Missouri Parks and Recreation frequently videotapes and photographs participants enjoying our programs, special events, parks and facilities. These images are used by KC Parks and the City of Kansas City, Missouri in publications, on the web, for television/cable promotions, or to use as is seen fit. The images are used at the City s discretion and become its sole property. INCLUSION KC Parks provides inclusive recreation opportunities that welcome, accommodate and successfully include individuals with disabilities within existing parks and recreation programs. There are a couple of new amenities added to our system that you will not want to miss. The first is a surfing simulator, the BayRider, which opens Memorial Day weekend at The Bay Water Park in south Kansas City. We are proud to be the second city in the state to have this unique asset in a municipal water park. Additionally, the state s first FootGolf course is opening at the Heart of America Golf Course in Swope Park. FootGolf is a combination of soccer and golf played with a regulation No. 5 soccer ball on a shortened golf course with 21-inch diameter cups. We hope you will get out and try out both of these exciting new amenities. We appreciate your ongoing enthusiasm and support for KC Parks. And remember, this summer--out is in! Sincerely, Mark L.
