CAMINO COMPOSTELA PORTUGUESE SPIRITUAL WAY DAY BY DAY ITINERARY This 8 nights route brings you along the last 123 kilometers of the Camino Portugues - Portuguese Way Maritime / Spiritual Way into Santiago de Compostela. DAY 1 - MAKING OUR WAY TO BAIONA Our driver will pick you up from Santiago or Vigo airport at the agreed time to bring you to the stunning Parador of Baiona, a Fortress peninsula renovated into a stunning 4* hotel by the ocean. On March 1, 1493, the Pinta, one of the ships from Columbus voyage to discover the New World returned to Europe and arrived in Baiona, making the town s port the first to receive news of the discovery of America. A replica of the ship can be visited, and the event is celebrated every year. So if time allows during the afternoon, go for a tour of the old town, visit the Pinta and relax by the ocean. In order for you to meet everybody participating in the Camino Forum Walk, we will invite you for a Welcome Cocktails Party in the Parador around 7pm before having dinner together and watch the sunset onto the bay. Night in the 4* Parador of Baiona DAY 2-25KM - WALK FROM BAIONA TO VIGO Today, we will finally begin our journey on the Portuguese Way Coastal Way or Caminho da Costa. Leaving behind Baiona, we will follow the coast across the Rivieras Baixas through the beach-town of Nigrán and towards the city of Vigo. The region is world-famous for it s Albariño white wine and delicious shellfish. In the distance, admire the magnificent Illas Cíes, named the most beautiful beaches in the world, and the Bay of Vigo with its Natural Park. In the afternoon, we will visit the city s Fortress, its Old Town and harbor and we will have free time to enjoy your 4* hotels facilities and the atmosphere of the Old Town of Vigo. Night in 4* AC Hotel Palacio Universal by Marriott or equivalent

DAY 3-18KM - WALK FROM VIGO TO REDONDELA Today, is a fairly short stage, so we take your time to enjoy the views as you walk, stop and contemplate the valleys, the Islands in the horizon and the peninsula of Morrazo. We will pass the Rande Bridge, which was once the longest suspension bridge in the world, and the seaside town of Cove San Simon. In Redondela, we will join the Central Portuguese Camino and after a short visit of the village of the Viaducts, we will transfer the group to a stunning Castle hotel with a large estate nearby. Night in Pazo Torres de Agrelo or Hotel Pousada del Castillo DAY 4-18KM - WALK FROM REDONDELA TO PONTEVEDRA Today, expect two sceneries, half the day will be walking by the coast with stunning views over the Vigo Bay and the second part will be walking in the shade of a peaceful oak forest. We will cross an infamous bridge, Ponte Sampaio, where during the War of Independence, Napoleon s army suffered one of its greatest defeats. We are heading to the Parador of Pontevedra. A 4* hotel located in the heart of the old quarter of the magnificent city of Pontevedra, the Roman built city dedicated to the Virgen Peregrina (the Pilgrim Virgin). Night in the 4* Parador of Pontevedra DAY 5-18 KM - WALK FROM PONTEVEDRA TO O BUSTO - THE SPIRITUAL DETOUR Night in Quinta de San Amaro Today, we will continue our journey inland along the Central Portuguese Camino for an hour before reaching the separation point with the Spiritual Variant / the Maritime Way. This detour is relatively new, it has only been accepted by the Pilgrim Office in 2013 but has the oldest origins of all Caminos. During the next three days, we will be following the detour towards Vilanova de Arousa, where we will board a Catamaran and follow the final journey of the Apostle. It is said that in the year 44, after his Martyrdom, the body of James the Apostle was transported on a stone vessel along the Arousa Estuary to get to the land of Galicia where he was meant to be buried. The boat is said to have gone from Jaffa to Galicia and upstream via Ulla river until reaching Iria Flavia (Padron) and later on Santiago de Compostela. This tradition followed by Christians all around the world has been translated throughout the millenary Jacobean history into a varied iconography representing the Apostle s final journey from Jaffa (Palestine) to Iria Flavia (today s village of Padrón). This is the Initial Route of all the Santiago Trails. On your journey today, we will pass the Monastery of San Juan de Poio and the beautiful town of Cambarro, famous for its Horreos (a typical granary on pillars). There will be some uphill today, and little signs of civilization on the last 5 km. After arriving in O Busto, we will ask the owner of our rural guest-house to pick us up. This tastefully renovated country-side house in Meaño offers picturesque rural surroundings inbetween the vineyards, a swimming pool and a walk-in horreo. We will arrange for a Albariño wine-tasting session at their private winery before dinner.

DAY 6-15 KM - WALK FROM O BUSTO TO PONTEARNELAS - NIGHT CAMBADOS After a short drive back to O Busto, we continue our journey inland towards Vilanova de Arousa. We will start the morning with a visit of the Monastery of Armenteira, which belongs to the Cistercian order and was founded by the knight Ero de Armenteira in 1168. We will then walk a section of the relaxing Ruta da Pedra e da Auga (the route of rocks and water - due to the number of watermills that can be found on that river) along the Armenteira river. We will walk all the way to the famous bridge of Pontearnelas, a XVI century stone bridge linked to strange rituals of prenatal baptism. Here, we will be picked up by the owner of a 15th century house and estate, located 200 metres from the historic centre of Cambados. Cambados is considered to be the capital of Albariño, one of the best white wines in the world so again, tonight, we will experience an Albariño wine-tasting and visit the Pazo s private winery before dinner at a 1 Michelin star restaurant nearby. Night in Pazo a Capitana DAY 7-11 KM - WALK FROM PONTEARNELAS TO VALLAGARCIA DE AROUSA & 1H CRUISE After breakfast, our host will drive us back to Pontearnelas and we will have 11 km left to walk before reaching the harbour of Vilanova de Arousa, where we will embark a catamaran for 15 nautical miles cruise. Following the journey of the stone boat carrying the remains of the Apostle Saint James, we will be sailing a catamaran or water taxi (depending on the tide) towards Iria Flavia or Padron. We will be spending the night in the emblematic town of Padrón. In May, your hotel will be a XVIII century museum house in the heart of Padron. In September, you will stay in an emblematic 16th-century building 1km away, which was a former place of leisure of the bishops of Santiago de Compostela and has an outdoor pool. Night in 3* Pension Jardin in May or 4* Hotel Monumento Pazo de Lestrove in September DAY 8-21 KM - WALK FROM PADRÓN TO SANTIAGO! This is it! Only twenty kilometers separates you from your goal: the resting place of the Apostle Saint James in the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela. Following the footstep of the two disciples, we will leave early morning the town of Padron, or Iria Flavia, famous for being the place where they moored the boat but also for it s Pimientos (Green Peppers). The Camino will bring you through charming villages and hamlets as well as the Baroque sanctuary of A Esclavitude. About half-way to Santiago, we will stop in Pazo de Farmello, probably the most important and beautiful manor house in Galicia, for a guided tour of the gardens and a highly useful short-cut back onto the official way saving us a few kilometers.

You will get to walk by the mysterious, abandoned ruins on the hill-fort of Castro Lupario, of the castle A Rocha Vella and the Chapel of San Martiño were one of the most ancient Cruceiros of Galicia stands. Then, finally, from the hills of Agro dos Monteiros, we will get our first glimpse of the towers of the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela and start walking into the city of the Apostle. As you enter the town a couple routes are offered to you, we recommend following the River Sarela instead of entering through the new town. Soon enough after entering the Old Town, the Cathedral will present herself to us, beautiful and powerful from the Obradoiro Square. You have finally finished the Camino de Santiago! You still have a few things to do this afternoon: checking into your beautiful hotel 200m away from the square in a quiet neighbourhood, getting your pilgrim certificate & marvel at the architecture of our beloved City. At 19:30, the group will gather to attend the Pilgrim Mass, where we will have pre-booked the Botafumeiro ceremony. After Mass, around 9pm Ivar Rekve will join us for a farewell dinner and we will share our thoughts about the journey we just undertook together and how the Forum brought us together. Night in 4* Hotel Altair or Maure or equivalent DAY 9 - START OF YOUR NEXT ADVENTURE A wise pilgrim once told us the real Camino starts where the Camino de Santiago finishes but I will not be afraid because the Camino will always be there for me. Today, as we bring you to your departure airport, we hope it has brought you whatever you were looking for and wish to see you again soon on the Camino!
