Travel EXPERIENCE 2019 MINIMESTER at Southwest Christian School
South Africa Tentative Dates: March 2-12 Cost: Approximately $3,300 (This will be all inclusive) Group max: 23 Group Leader: Mr. Coby Bird coby.bird@southwestchristian.org SCS is returning to South Africa in 2019! We are headed to Port Shepstone, which is 1.5 hours south of Durban on the country s southeast coastline. While there, the SCS team will partner with the Norwegian Settlers Church to serve alongside them in their efforts to reach their community for Jesus Christ. Activities will include serving in the children s activity and meal program as well as the church s clinic, spending time with the youth group from Norwegian Settlers, going on safari, eating amazing food, and exploring the beaches of the Indian Ocean. This will be an amazing time of connection for our SCS family to learn more about the South African history and culture and serve alongside an amazing ministry. This trip will be transformative for all who are able to go.
New York City Fine Arts Tentative Dates: March 2-8 Cost: Approximately $2,850 by May 15 or $2,950 by September 14 Group Minimum/Maximum: 12/30 Leader: Mrs. Cyndi Woodward.cwoodward@southwestchristian.org The Southwest Christian School Theatre Arts department is taking THE CITY by storm! This trip will expose students to the arts enriched community of Manhattan and develop disciplines through an interactive educational experience in the performing arts. Students will participate in musical theatre master classes led by Broadway performers, visit world class art museums, see 4 Broadway shows, tour historic performing arts venues and experience the best in NYC fine dining. This trip will require a selected concentration and participation in the performing arts. Come live, learn, and play March 2-8, 2019 in New York City!
Jamaica Tentative Dates: March 2-8 Cost: Approximately $1,950 Group Minimum/Maximum: 12/25 Leader: Mr. Brad Davis SCS will return to Jamaica for the 4th time in 2019. This trip is centered around the mountain community of Harmons and a ministry called Won by One that is involved in community development and sharing Jesus with the people there. During our time in Harmons, we will help build houses, work in the schools, a public hospital, as well as different agricultural projects. We partner with the people of Harmons on all of these projects and get to really experience rural Jamaican culture and share our faith with countless people. The last day of the trip will allow our team a quick getaway to the beach in Ocho Rios for a one night stay before our return flight to the U.S. This trip is hard work, but will surely be one of the most amazing trips that you have ever participated in. Nepal Tentative Dates: March 1-11 Cost: Approximately $3,000 (This will be all inclusive) Group max: 20 Group Leader: Mr. Brian Johnson brian.johnson@southwestchristian.org Goin to K-K-K-Kathmandu! You could be goin too! In partnership with First Love International, SCS will venture to one of the most beautiful, but one of the poorest, countries on earth. In the shadow of the majestic Himalayas, we ll engage an amazing culture, until recently the world s only Hindu kingdom, where we can live out Christ s call to love our neighbors, widows and orphans. In addition to exploring and serving in Kathmandu, we ll work in villages far from the beaten path. We won t be climbing mountains, however, so the physical demands are more in line with painting, building, playing, and sharing. The needs are great, and the workers are few, so this service-based mission will provide SCS students and parents some truly unique opportunities to demonstrate Christ s love.
Spain and Portugal Tentative Dates: March 2-11 Cost: Approximately $3900 Group Minimum/Maximum: 14/30 Leader: Mrs. Anna Bristow This trip will explore the cities of Madrid, Seville, Merida, and Lisbon traveling by high speed train, and by motor coach. There will be at least two days in each city, and highlights include: Plaza Mayor, the Spanish Royal Palace, the Prado Museum, El Retiro Park, a flamenco performance in Seville, Cordoba Mosque Tour, Seville Cathedral, Roman ruins in Merida, Sintra National Palace in Portugal, and a walking tour of Lisbon. Practice your Spanish, visit and explore some of the most beautiful cities in Europe, and immerse in Iberian culture for 9 days!
Grand Canyon Tentative Dates: March 3-8 Cost: Approximately $2,000 Group Minimum/Maximum: 12/25 Leader: Mr. Danny Roberts Explore one of America s greatest natural wonders and revel in God s creation while learning about ecology, geology, and spending time on the water flowing through the Grand Canyon. This trip will include hiking, rafting or canoeing, the Grand Canyon skybridge, a mule riding tour of the canyon topography, and some of the most breathtaking vistas you can imagine. March is the best time of year to visit the canyon - both for climate and for crowds - and you can be there next minimester!
