There is an EAT on November 12 th with SSC alumni. Mary Ellen Noss is still taking reservations but, you must contact her right away. Email at maryellen@suburbanskiclub.org or phone (330) 569-3170. See details about these and other important events in the following pages. A MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT Dear Suburban Ski Club Members, If this issue of Ski Trails arrived with a Membership Form as the first page, that was our signal to you that you have not yet renewed your membership. The deadline for renewal without penalty is November 15 th and you must act quickly. For your convenience, a Membership Form is attached to the Email that brought you this newsletter. You can also renew your membership online and that may be the most convenient way to do it. Go to www.suburbanskiclub.org. Wow! We certainly had a phenomenal program at the October membership meeting! Thank you, Cindy Bacon, for arranging for Ruth Pangrace to deliver her presentation as Eleanor Roosevelt. The program was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone and we all are hoping for an encore with a visit from one of the other eight Women in History whom Ruth portrays. Thanks again to Mary Ellen and Ed Noss for hosting our Eat-Around-Town at Sarita s. We had 15 in attendance. Mary Ellen said Sarita s was EXCELLENT! Our next EAT is coming soon on November 12 th. It will be our annual EAT with our alumni and will be held at Nighttown in Cleveland Heights. See more about this fun night later in the newsletter

Please mark the date on your calendar and get your reservations in for our annual Holiday Party on December 2 nd. It will be an elegant evening with dinner and dancing at the Holiday Inn in Mayfield, catered by Alfredo s. Cindy will report more on this later in the newsletter and a flyer for the evening is attached for your reservation. Also, you are able to go online and make your reservations there. Please act quickly because the date is fast approaching. Hope to see you on December 2 nd! The next membership meeting is Thursday, November 16 th. For this meeting Lilly Kron is organizing another of her fabulous ski fashion shows. This has always been great fun in past years and I hope you can join us. Our January ski trip to Snowmass, Colorado and our February trip to Killington, Vermont are full and both have waiting lists. There are a few more places on the Canadian trip to Panorama in March. See the flyer attached to this newsletter for more information. It promises to be a really super trip. Also, we Ski Every Week with our varied bus trip schedule and you should check out those trips on the attached 2018 Ski Schedule. Thanks to all our leaders and planners for the unbelievable skiing opportunities you have arranged. Please join me in welcoming our newest members: Mary Kay Binder, Patrick Phillips, Bill and Jill Oatey. Hope to see you at the meeting in November, at our social events and on our ski trips. This EAT is a special one because SSC alumni will be participating. We have been doing this annually for quite a few years now and it is always a wonderful time. The hosts are our EAT Coordinator, Mary Ellen Noss, and Alumni organizer, Kathy Porcen Robinson. Kathy will be taking reservations for the alumni while Mary Ellen will be doing that for current SSC members. Emailed reservations should be sent to maryellen@suburbanskiclub.org If necessary, you may also phone Mary Ellen at (330) 569-3170. Thursday, November 16, 7:00 PM Membership Meeting The meeting begins at 7:00 PM in the party room at the Holiday Inn; 780 Beta Drive, Mayfield Village 44143, (440) 461-9200. You will see a sign for the Holiday Inn as you make the turn. As usual we will be assembling at 5:15 PM for cocktails, food and socializing. If dinner is more than you want, order an appetizer, a salad or even pizza. You will find us at the back of Alfredo s. This meeting will feature a special presentation. We will be bringing back our beloved SSC member, Lilly Kron, to do another one of her fabulous fashion shows of ski clothing and accessories. She will again be recruiting some of SSC s super models to assist in her production. You won t want to miss this evening. Saturday, December 2, 6:00 PM: Annual Holiday Party Page 4 of 7 Come join us at the Holiday Inn, 780 Beta Drive, Mayfield Village, 44143. This location is where we have our membership meetings and we know there will be superb food with professional service, easy parking, music, dancing, and fun! This year s band is again Turnaround, who will be playing oldies from the 60 s, 70 s and 80 as well as some of your contemporary favorites. Come strut your stuff on the dance floor. The price will be only $37.00 and covers one of two menu selections, which includes: salad, side dishes, standard beverages, and a dessert. There will be a cash bar for more adventuresome beverages at your option. The bargain price also includes what has become an SSC holiday tradition: lots of chances to win prizes and gift certificates. With the cost of dinner, prizes and the band subsidized by SSC, your payment represents a lot of bang for your buck. It will be a great evening! Non-member friends are certainly welcome. A vegetarian entree can be provided with advance notification. All registrations must be received no later than November 20th. But, space is limited so please don t delay. Take the time, right now, to fill out the form attached to this newsletter and mail it with your check to assure your reservation. Another, probably easier, option is to reserve online: go to www.suburbanskiclub.org For more information contact Cindy Bacon: (216) 409-6570 or cindy@suburbanskiclub.org

You may want to print out your personal hard copy. As you may know, Melinda Kellerstrass and I are Co-chairs of the Trips and Tours Committee. Melinda has taken charge of the bus trips and you can read in the following pages all about the trips she has planned. I have done the preliminary work in setting up the two western trips. Melinda has joined me in running the first western trip to Snowmass while Cindy and Mark Bacon are the trip leaders for our second western trip to Panorama in Canada. You will also find our reports below. Finally, our third major trip is our eastern trip to Killington, Vermont. A report on that from Joe Sullivan can be found below as well. I don t know about you but I hope you are getting as excited as I am about the approaching ski season. Our 2018 ski program is turning out to be one of our best ones yet and I am thrilled at how many of you have already signed up for our three major trips. I am especially happy to see so many of the new members we welcomed last year joining us again in 2018. Page 5 of 7

Our trip to Snowmass in Aspen (January 13 20, 2018) sold out almost immediately, but please let me know if you would like to be put on our waiting list. It is not unusual to get a cancellation or two. Our second western trip is to Panorama Ski Resort in British Columbia, Canada. The dates are March 11 18. Trip Leaders, Cindy and Mark Bacon report that we have 27 signed up but there is room for more. This is a fantastic opportunity to experience the Canadian Rockies. For the low price of $1,425, you get roundtrip airfare, ski-in/ski-out lodging at Panorama Springs Condos (with an enormous heated swimming pool), a five-day lift ticket and more. Please consult the Flyer and Agreement Form attached to this newsletter for all the details. You can also find the Flyer and Agreement Form on our website: www.suburbanskiclub.org Beth Silverman, Co-Chair, Trips and Tours beth@suburbanskiclub.org or (216) 799-2001 Eastern Trip Our 2018 Eastern Trip is to Killington, Vermont on February 11 17, 2018. As you may recall, we reported earlier that we filled this trip before we left the month of August. We are looking forward to an exciting time at Killington, Pico and Okemo. As you know, the Eastern Trip is always an all-inclusive package at a bargain price. This price this year is $949 and includes 6 nights lodging; lift tickets for 5 days; 6 dinners and 5 hot breakfast buffets and more. If you missed making a reservation, you might still have an opportunity to join us. We are beginning a waiting list and, if past experience is any indication, there may be cancellations. For details, visit www.suburbanskiclub.org Joe Sullivan joe@suburbanskiclub.org or (216) 932-3636 THE 2018 BUS TRIPS I want to share with you a photo of a purchase I made on my recent ski trip to Canada. I discovered this hat is not only perfect for Apres Ski festivities but has a very practical use. So, when we ski together in 2018, you bring the beer and I will supply the opener! Now that Fall is here, it is time to start planning your SSC bus trips. This year, if you sign up for any one-day bus trip at least 10 days prior to departure, you will get an early-bird discounted price. Our goal is to encourage members to sign up early so that our trip leaders have time to prepare and to allow us to finalize our bus arrangements. Plus it saves you $$$ -- such a deal! Page 6 of 7

We added a new event to our day trip schedule. We are offering a pre-season Meet n Drive to Peek n Peak on Wednesday, January 3 rd. We will assemble at the Holiday Inn in Mayfield Village and then car pool to PnP. You pay for your own lift ticket at the resort. PnP is offering a mid-week madness price of $36. If 15 or more of us go, we will get a group discount price of $25. So long as there is snow on the slopes, this trip will go regardless of the number of participants. There are two popular bus trips I suggest you sign up for early to guarantee a seat on the bus. We are bringing back the ski and wine trip to Holiday Valley on Friday, Jan 26. After a day of skiing, we will stop at Grand River Cellars for dinner. We will have our own party room where you can order off the menu and taste some wonderful wines. Once again, Jack Ganz is taking us on a wonderful two-day trip to Holiday Valley and Bristol Mountain on Feb 22-23. This popular trip includes bus transportation, two days of lift tickets, overnight accommodations, dinner and breakfast. Check out the attached schedule and then mark your calendars. We would not want you to miss out on all the fun! I also want to take this opportunity to thank those who volunteered to be Trip Leaders for our bus trips: John Hersch, Cliff Lewis, June Kelley, Jack Ganz, Larry Grewe and Beth Silverman. This weekend we are having a meeting of those leaders to discuss the trips and make plans to assure your comfort and enjoyment.
