Professor Oreffo holds the chair of Musculoskeletal Science at the University of Southampton and is co-founder of the Centre for Human Development, Stem Cells & Regeneration. Richard has agreed to provide a presentation to our Separate Science Year 9 and 10 students to include the use of stem cell technology and the associated ethical issues. This supports the GCSE Biology curriculum content. Have a lovely weekend Mr McCabe PERFORMING ARTS TRIP NEW YORK There are still a few places remaining on the Performing Arts trip to New York in February 2018 half term. The trip is open to all students currently in Years 7, 8, 9 and 10 and will include a Broadway workshop with professional actors and tickets to a popular Broadway show, as well as all the other must-see tourist attractions in New York! Miss Crocker Please see below the topics that students will be doing in PSHE lessons next week: Mrs Reddy Year 7 What makes a good diet? Year 8 Year 9 This lesson will examine the seven food groups and how to eat a balanced diet. The pupils will be asked to create healthier versions of their favourite dinners! How much do you know about alcohol? The first of five lessons which examine drinking alcohol. This introductory lesson gives the pupils an idea of how alcohol is made and measured, and starts to investigate the myths around drinking alcohol. Options Choices: How can I make the right options choices for me? The third of three lessons which examines the different options choices that our pupils can make. Pupils will receive their Options Booklets today in tutor time. Tutors will go through the Options with their students and answer any questions that they might have. Year 10 Outside Speakers: Representatives from the Samaritans will be coming in to talk to our pupils about mental health and where to get help if they need it. Year 11 No lesson this week due to Pre-Public examinations.

Performing Arts NEW YORK Trip 2018 The Performing Arts department are excited to announce that we are planning a trip to NEW YORK CITY in February half term 2018! The trip will include a BROADWAY workshop with professional actors, a BROADWAY show, the Empire State Building, Statue of Liberty, Rockefeller Centre and much more! Spending money will be needed, including enough to cover a light lunch. In order to secure a place on the trip please complete and return the attached reply slip by Friday 3 February, together with a non-refundable deposit of 200.00 to the Finance Office. Payment can be made online, by cash or cheque (made payable to Hampshire County Council). A second non-refundable instalment of 200.00 will be payable within two months of the first deposit and the final balance will be due by 20 October 2017. Please note in the event of a student dropping out prior to travel, monies will not be refunded unless we are able to reallocate the place to another student. On receipt of your first deposit a payment card and proposed payment schedule will be sent out. Places will be allocated on a first come, first served basis to a maximum of 30 spaces so please reply promptly if your child would like to participate in this memorable trip. We expect and must ensure Aldworth students behave in an exemplary fashion throughout the trip. Aldworth staff must have full confidence in the behaviour of students who wish to take part in this trip. Later in the year we will arrange a Parents Information Evening where all aspects of the trip will be explained in detail.
