Salkantay VVVV 5 days Say YES to adventure & discover the lost city of the incas!
ITINERARY Day 1: Cusco - Soraypampa The group will be picked up at the hotel to travel by bus for 4 hours. Later we will reach Mollepata, where we will get together with our horsemen and horses that carry the camping equipment. In this area it is possible to see the beautiful snowcapped peak of Salkantay. Afterwards we will hike for 4 hours ascending the mountain Saillapata, where it s time to have lunch. After, we will continu until reaching our campsite in Soraypampa at around 5:00pm where dinner will be set up. Day 3: Chaullay - Llaqtapata Day 2: Soraypampa - Chaullay Early in the morning we ll have our breakfast and then will begin a 3 hours trek until the highest point of our expedition, The Salkantay Pass (4.600 m.a.s.l.). Then, we walk down towards Wayracpunku, to have our next meal. Afterwards, the journey will continue going into the high jungle where we will observe large trees with their arms stretching out over the streams, all filled with bromeliads and orchids. This trek will last around 5 hours to reach our campsite in Chaullay where we ll have dinner and rest. After enjoying breakfast in the mountain scenery (somewhere around 8:00 a.m.), we will go by bus to Lucmabamba. From there we will walk up to the Llaqtapata ruins in about 2 hours and after a short break we descend for another half hour to the Llaqtapata lodge. We will have lunch at this amazing location with a breath taking view of Machu Picchu and Huayna Picchu and free time for the rest of the afternoon to relax, explore the area or go horse riding. Then we will have a traditional Peruvian dinner and have a good night s rest to prepare for the following day.
Day 4: Llaqtapata - Hidroélectrica - Aguas Calientes The next morning, after a good breakfast we start descending. for about 1.5 hours to the river Ahobamba where a bus will take us in an half hour ride to the hot springs near Santa Teresa (for those who reserved the extra activities) or directly to Hidroélectrica. If you are in a mood for some extra trekking you can always ask your guide to indicate you the way for Hidroelectrica. After this, the bus will bring us to Hidroélectrica where we will enjoy our lunch. We can relax there for a while in the hamaca, then will continue walking along the train track that is leading through this great jungle that the Inca knew by heart to our final destination: Aguas Calientes. For about 3 hours we will encounter beautiful waterfalls, different Eco farms and possibly wildlife curious of your arrival in the region. At 5 pm the group will arrive and spend the night in an hostel. During the night we all get together in a local restaurant and enjoy a nice dinner while using this time to brief about the next excursion to Machu Picchu. Then free time is allowed to visit the town; which is wonderful after sunset. Day 5: Aguas Calientes - Machu Picchu - Cusco We start hiking early after breakfast with the ambition to marvel at the sunrise from the heights of Machu Picchu. There will be a 2 hours comprehensive tour of the town and afterwards you will have free time to explore in solo the sacred soil. Passengers that reserved the hiking tour to Huayna Picchu will be directed according to their group which will take about 2.5 hours including breathtaking view. In the afternoon you will descend to Aguas Calientes, boarding a train to Ollantaytambo at 18:20 (or else). Remember to be at the station at least 30 minutes beforehand. In Ollantaytambo there will be a driver waiting just outside the exit, who will bring you back to Cusco. Arrival in the evening: 10pm.
