UP Kuna The safest, easiest entry into the world of paragliding
UP Kuna The safest, easiest entry into the world of paragliding You are a beginner, or an occasional pilot You want safe, easy and satisfying paragliding UP Kuna entering the 3. dimension with confidence Even higher levels of safety compared to its predecessor, and a healthy performance increase thanks to the latest design technology; after a full year of R&D the UP Kuna has passes the DHV certification with the ultimate grade 1 in all manoeuvres! The successor to the UP Pulse, renowned among many flying schools as THE safest glider available, the UP Kuna has been designed specifically to make your entry into the paragliding universe as safe, easy and enjoyable as at all possible. The perfect synergy of tradition and innovation The UP Kuna canopy was designed to exactly match the demands posed by aspiring to become a benchmark school and beginner wing. In doing that the UP designers incorporated the single-cell suspension already known from the UP Pulse, thus attaining a very precise profile. The cell width is progressively reduced towards the wingtips, resulting in a practically ideal canopy surface (top and bottom) all the way from the centre to the tips. A horizontal tape along the D level gives the UP Kuna a more docile behaviour when flown outside the normal flight envelope. This band, used throughout the UP paraglider range under the HoneyComb System label, also gives the canopy a higher inherent stability and, due to the more constant distance between cells, better performance and handling. The UP Kuna has also inherited its canopy outline and its dihedral from the higher-rated cousins in the UP range. This makes the wing instantly recognisable as a member of the UP family so renowned for its
confidence-inspiring combination of safety and performance. The UP Kuna uses an adapted version of the new UP profile generation already being used in the UP Kantega and the UP Summit 2. The all new UP Kuna at a glance: Special profile at the wingtips means a more homogenous tapering between top- and bottom sail Exact maintaining of the profile through the use of Mylar reinforcements at the leading- and trailing edge. All-new 4-level riser system with colour coding to avoid mistakes All-new line layout with has allowed us to optimise the distribution of forces internally in the canopy New brake line attachments ensure a clean, perfect curving of the trailing edge when steering or braking HoneyComb System D-level bracing Slightly shorter risers make B-lining and bigears easier Pulling bigears is easy thanks to the divided A-risers Dirt-Pockets in the wingtips for easy removal of accumulated debris inside the canopy Inflation and launch Launching the new UP Kuna is remarkably easy: Lay out the wing, do your 5-point check and off. UP s new DHV 1 wing is particularly easy and forgiving to launch a light pull on the A s is enough to inflate the wing and see it climb all the way to the flying position. There is no tendency to either hang back or overshoot. During the inflation the pull on the risers will give you plenty of information about the canopy, and there is ample time to give corrective input should that be needed. When launching in stronger winds we recommend that you sue only the inner A-risers, as this will give a more controlled inflation. The very low speed needed for lift-off makes little corrections during the start phase easy optimal characteristics for a beginner wing!
UP Kuna in flight Getting those first curves nailed has never been easier: Thanks to its perfectly refined, progressive handling it is child s play to get the wing banked as much or as little as you desire. This translates into the all-important confidence that beginners need to be able to progress rapidly. The brake line travel is long and will allow even the heavy-handed beginner the opportunity to fly an agile but forgiving wing. The ability to turn flat coupled with a low sink rate combine to ensure that you ll have an easy time when learning to climb in thermals. The wing is well dampened in all three axes so that you can concentrate on finding and using lift; the UP Kuna takes care of the rest! Further in-flight characteristics: Relaxed flying even in turbulence the UP Kuna takes it in its stride Progressively increasing brake line pressure all the way to the stall point high passive safety even with minimal routine Long brake travel safety in critical situations as you re unlikely to be able to accidentally stall it Large speed range and high aerodynamic stability After passing the new, stricter DHV tests the UP Kuna means yet another notch up the difficult safety ladder. It belongs to a new generation of beginner wings that are characterised by a very docile, forgiving behaviour following large asymmetrical collapses, still the number one cause of accidents in paragliding. During the tests the UP Kuna never turned more that 90 degrees to the flying direction, and even when suffering induced collapses of 60-70% it always opened quickly and without any pilot input.
Further characteristics The UP Kuna was designed for beginners, to use throughout the entire paragliding education. It is equally at home on the shallow training hill as on the first many cross country flights. The wings very high inherent safety in combination with progressive and differentiated handling, and the very respectable performance figures, make this wing well suited for pilots who have little time to indulge in their favourite sport, or who have been away from the sport for a while. In fact, all pilots seeking the highest levels of safety without compromising their flying enjoyment, will feel instantly at home on a UP Kuna. Color combination Top and Bottom sail with design stripe UP Kuna the no-compromise, safest wing in its class!
