In Situ Sling Range by Silvalea Ltd Silvalea Ltd were the first company to introduce specialised fabrics with the development of our renowned ʻparaʼ moulded wheelchair sling which was first introduced in 1997. Initially offered as a custom-made service for these very complex slings, after many years of success we extended this range into a standardisation of this sling to cover 80% of clients with curvature of the spine and other similar conditions. This helped to reduce the cost of the Moulded Wheelchair Sling making it a more affordable option, although the customised option is still available to meet the needs of those clients who do not meet the standard range. The Silva-Superfine sling range was launched in 2005. This sling is made from a lightweight, cool and breathable mesh with the added benefits of Coolmax EXTREME properties. The materials two-way stretch enables it to hug the body like a second skin and the Silva-Superfine sling range continues to be a huge success. Both the Para Sling range and the Silva-Superfine Sling range are suitable for tight moulded chairs. In 2006 Silvalea launched the Silva-Superfine PLU range offering an in-situ sling for use in standard seating systems for the heavier client. In 2011/12 Continual research and development enabled Silvalea to offer this sling range with the additional benefits of Coolmax EXTREME Performance with FRESH properties with a 3- dimensional structure which creates greatly increased airflow and the additional benefit of silver ions to help reduce microbial growth. The standard in-situ range is split into four standard designs covering the Straight Leg, Deluxe Leg, Longseat and High Easy Styles. STRAIGHT LEG DELUXE LEG LONGSEAT HIGH EASY

IN SITU SLINGS Clarity from the Original 1993 1995/96 1997 2003/04 Silvalea Textiles established later to become Silvalea Ltd 1995-1997 Research & Market Awareness 1997 - Introduction of the Parasilk Moulded Wheelchair Sling 2003/04 R&D Started on New In-Situ Materials The Original Replacement Sling Manufacturer Due to the problems of constant removal and reapplication of slings within a moulded wheelchair seating system Silvalea instigated research into the possibility of leaving a sling in-situ within a moulded wheelchair 3 years of R & D were carried out in the UK and across Europe Many specialists were involved including OT, Designer, Tissue Viability Nurse and a Wheelchair Technician A tailored prototype design was developed using the two layers of a parasilk fabric The two layers proved beneficial as they moved against each other, not against the users skin, thus avoiding friction Through continual research and education, limitations were discovered with the parasilk fabric. This was mainly slipping within the chair and sweating of the user During 2003 research was undertaken to find a better in-situ material without the limitations that parasilk had Many materials were sampled and prototype slings produced Having found a new suitable fabric, sample slings were manufactured and testing began Areas of research were within domestic, acute and educational environments Approximately 85 clients within moulded wheelchair seating systems were assessed and monitored during this time Later in 1997 a Coolmax lining was incorporated within the sling to assist with clientsʼ temperature control In this photo you can see the shearness of the fabric
Moulded Wheelchair Sling Designers 2005 2006 2007 2012 - Present Launch of the Silva-Superfine Sling Range Launch of the Silva-Superfine PLU Sling Range Continual R&D into New Designs and Materials Continual R&D into New Designs and Materials On-going research led to the introduction of the Silva-Superfine sling range manufactured from Coolmax EXTREME fabric The fabric is a lightweight, cool and breathable soft mesh The design of the sling along with the slight twoway stretch allows the sling to accomodate the contours of the users body. This eliminates any pressure to vulnerable areas of the body Due to the huge success of the Silva- Superfine sling range within the moulded wheelchair seating systems, we were being requested to provide an in-situ sling for use in standard seating systems for the heavier client Development undertaken on a suitable fabric for the heavier client The Silva-Superfine PLUS sling range was introduced to the market Silvalea continued to investigate and conduct research into pressure issues associated with sling transfers Additional R & D into new sling designs and materials continues to be developed During 2012 the Silva- Superfine PLUS sling range will be manufactured using Coolmax EXTREME Performance with FRESH fabric Additional benefits to the Silva-Superfine PLUS sling range include a 3- dimensional structure to help increase airflow, moisture wicking properties via Coolmax Fresh and high performance compression comfort The Silva-Superfine sling range continues to be a huge success In addition to the research and development Silvalea are re-visiting the relevance of pressure mapping. Earlier research revealed that if the seating system and cushion were correct for the user there was no aditional pressure caused by the sling.
