Soil Descriptions BLOWERS SERIES - Soil # 720B The Blowers series consists of very deep, moderately well drained soils that formed in loamy glacial till on drumlins and moraines. It is deep to dense till-densic contact. These soils have moderate permeability in the upper part and slow or very slow permeability in the dense underlying till. Their slopes range from 1 to 5 percent. Mean annual precipitation is about 25 inches. Mean annual air temperature is about 42 degrees F. GEOGRAPHIC SETTING: These soils have plane to slightly convex slopes with gradient of 1 to 5 percent primarily on drumlins and moraines. They formed in calcareous coarse-loamy glacial till of the Wadena Lobe of the late Wisconsinan glaciation. The upper part appears to have been modified and stone lines have been identified in the field. Mean annual temperature ranges from 37 to 45 degrees F. Mean annual precipitation ranges from 22 to 30 inches. The frost-free days range from 90 to 145 days. The elevation above sea level ranges from 1000 to 1700 feet. GEOGRAPHICALLY ASSOCIATED SOILS: The Becida, Paddock, Rockwood, and Runeberg soils are members of a hydrosequence with the Blowers soils. The somewhat poorly drained Paddock soils are on lower lying sideslope positions on the drumlins. The well drained Rockwood soils are on higher lying and more sloping positions on the drumlins. The poorly drained Becida(T) soils are on toeslopes and sideslopes of drumlins. The very poorly drained Runeberg soils occupy depressions and lower lying areas between the drumlins. DRAINAGE AND PERMEABILITY: Moderately well drained. Surface runoff is slow. Permeability is moderate in the upper part and slow or very slow in the dense underlying till. These soils have a perched seasonal high water table at a depth of 2.5 to 3.5 feet at some time during the period of October to June. ROCKWOOD SERIES - Soil # 374B The Rockwood series consists of deep well drained soils that formed in loamy glacial till on drumlins. These soils have moderate permeability in upper part and slow permeability in dense underlying till. Their slopes range from 2 to 25 percent. Mean annual precipitation is about 23 inches, and mean annual temperature is about 42 degrees F. TYPICAL PEDON: Rockwood sandy loam with a convex slope of about 3 percent on the summit of a drumlin in a cultivated field. GEOGRAPHIC SETTING: These soils have convex slopes on shoulders and summits of drumlins. Slopes range from 2 to 25 percent. They formed in dense coarse-loamy glacial till of the Wadena Lobe of the Late Wisconsinan glaciation. The upper part appears to have been modified and stone lines have been identified in the field. Mean annual temperature ranges from 38 to 45 degrees F, and mean annual precipitation ranges from 20 to 26 inches. GEOGRAPHICALLY ASSOCIATED SOILS: These are Blowers, Paddock, and Runeberg soils which are members of a drainage sequence with Rockwood soils. All of these generally are downslope from Rockwood soils. The moderately well drained Blowers have slightly concave to slightly convex slopes. The somewhat poorly drained Paddock soils have plane or slightly concave slopes. The poorly and very poorly drained Runeberg soils have concave slopes. DRAINAGE AND PERMEABILITY: Well drained. Surface runoff is medium and rapid. Permeability is moderate in upper part and slow in dense underlying till.

Soil Descriptions PADDOCK SERIES - Soil # 703 Complex The Paddock series consists of somewhat poorly drained, poorly drained and very poorly drained soils that formed in loamy glacial till on drumlins. They are deep to a paralithic contact over dense till. These soils have moderate permeability in the upper part and very slow permeability in underlying dense till. Their slopes range from 0 to 2 percent. Mean annual precipitation is about 23 inches. Mean annual temperature is about 42 degrees F. TYPICAL PEDON: Paddock sandy loam with a slightly concave slope of one percent on the foot slope of a drumlin in a cultivated field. GEOGRAPHIC SETTING: These soils have plane or slightly concave slopes with gradient of less than 2 percent at the base of slopes and at the heads of shallow drainageways on drumlins and ground moraines. They formed in calcareous coarse-loamy glacial till of the Wadena Lobe of the late Wisconsinan glaciation. The upper part appears to have been modified and stone lines have been identified in the field. Mean annual temperature ranges from 37 to 45 degrees F. Mean annual precipitation ranges from 24 to 33 inches. The frost-free days are about 90 to 172 days. The elevation is about 670 to 1450 feet above sea level. GEOGRAPHICALLY ASSOCIATED SOILS: The Rockwood, Blowers, and Runeberg soils are members of a hydrosequence with Paddock soils. The well drained Rockwood and moderately well drained Blowers soils are on higher lying or more sloping positions on drumlins. GEOGRAPHICALLY ASSOCIATED SOILS: These are the Rockwood, Blowers, and Paddock soils which are members of a drainage sequence with Runeberg soils. The well drained Rockwood, moderately well drained Blowers and the somewhat poorly drained Paddock soils are on higher lying positions on drumlins. DRAINAGE AND PERMEABILITY: Poorly drained and very poorly drained. Runoff is very slow or ponded. Permeability is moderately slow or slow. The poorly drained phases have a perched water table at 0.5 to 2.0 feet during November to July in most years. The very poorly drained phase has an apparent water table at plus 1 to 1.0 feet from January to December in most years. TYPICAL PEDON: Runeberg sandy loam with a slope of 1 percent on the toe slope of a drumlin in a pasture. GEOGRAPHIC SETTING: The Runeberg soils have plane or concave slopes on toe slopes of drumlins, valleys between drumlins and on glacial moraines. Slopes range from 0 to 2 percent. They formed in calcareous coarse-loamy glacial till of the Wadena Lobe of the late Wisconsinan glaciation. Mean annual precipitation ranges from 22 to 32 inches, and 32 to 36 inches for the high PPT phases MN0100 and MN0101 used in New York for MLRA 142. Mean annual temperature ranges from 37 to 45 degrees F. Frost-free days range from 40 to 150 days. Elevation ranges from 670 to 1600 feet above sea level, and from 200 to 800 feet for the high PPT and stony, high PPT phases.
