Key words: East Uruguay - Lichens - Distribution. Palabras claves: Este de Uruguay - Líquenes - Distribución. Introduction During March 1956 the author accompanied with his father, ANTONIO A. OSORIO, spent two days in the Ranch Madeiros in Lavalleja Department, Uruguay. This cattle Ranch, which the Cebollatí River flows across, is located at the km 209 on Route 8. The collection site is situated 10 km S from Pirarajá Town (33 o 44 S; 54 o 45 W) and 75 km NE from Minas City (34 o 23 S; 55 o 14 W). * Museo Nacional de Historia Natural, Casilla de Correo 399, 11.000 Montevideo, Uruguay.

2 COM. BOT. MUS. HIST. NAT. MONTEVIDEO [Núm. 114 The largest amount of the taxa below listed were gathered in the broadleaved evergreen forest developed along the Cebollatí River (quoted as marginal forest in the species list). This forest is surrounded by outspread pastures with isolated specimens of Acacia farnesiana and scattered rocky outcrops which provided a lot of interesting species. This paper is the second contribution to the long term planned study of the lichen flora of eastern Uruguay. This is the region of the country situated E from the meridian 55 o W (OSORIO 1999:1). Some samples already published are only included in the list with the bibliographical reference. An asterisk (*) preceding a name indicates a new record for Lavalleja Department and two (**) a new record for East Uruguay. The numbers belong to the author s numbering system and are deposited in his private herbarium. Results The results of the study of the collection above listed can be summarized as follows: 1) The genera Amandinea y Pleopsidium are added to the known flora of the country. 2) Five species are recorded from East Uruguay for the first time. 3) Seventeen taxa are incorporated to the flora of Lavalleja Department. 4) Four gatherings: Calopadia perpallida, Usnea dimorpha, U. furfurosula and U. transitoria proved to represent the southernmost stations in South America for the time being. The lichen flora of the marginal forest visited can be considered as rather representative of similar ecosystems from S and E Uruguay. No evidence of anthropopressure was detected during our field trip. Finally, it is remarkable the high percentage of new records for Lavalleja Department: 42% of the species listed.
