School Bus Guide From January 2018
Welcome Dear Parents / Carers, I am pleased to be able to introduce to you our revised School Bus Guide, valid from January 2018 for the remainder of this academic year. Our silverstars buses serve five main schools across the Reading area; Bulmershe, Chiltern Edge, Denefield, Little Heath and Theale Green. This booklet contains details of all of the silverstars services that we run, along with information about our other routes that also serve the same schools. As the largest bus operator in Reading, we recognise our role in transporting school pupils to and from school. We aim to transport school pupils in comfort and safety, and at an affordable price, and we welcome school pupils on all of our bus services. All of the bus services in this booklet are operated by modern, easy to board buses, all fitted with free WiFi so your child can stay online on the move. We use dedicated drivers who work on the same routes on a regular basis, and all of our silverstars bus services are driven by Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checked drivers for your peace of mind. All buses also have CCTV on board to enhance safety and security. We have a great range of smartcards available for individual terms or the whole academic year, so there s no need for your child to carry cash. We want to keep you up to date on any changes that might affect your child s journey to or from school, so we ve created dedicated school transport websites for every school served by our silverstars buses. You can track your child s bus live from these websites, and you can also register your mobile number with us to enable us to text you if there are any delays or issues. You can also look up timetable and fare information and purchase bus passes on these dedicated websites; the website addresses are on the back cover of this booklet. Fare Information Silverstars fares These fares are for children travelling on services 1S, 15T, 18S, 26T, 26L, 28S, 33S, 921, 922 and 923. Silverstars fares are valid for travel on the Silverstars services at your child s school only, and Silverstars Plus fares also allow unlimited travel on other Reading Buses services within the simplyreading zone. If you re travelling to Theale Green School or Chiltern Edge School you ll need a simplynetwork ticket; for all other schools you can use a simplyreading ticket as long as your journey starts inside the simplyreading zone (which covers most of greater urban Reading). All the tickets which allow you to make more than one journey are valid on all ordinary Reading Buses services (the simplyreading tickets are valid inside the simplyreading zone, and the simplynetwork tickets are valid anywhere on our network). Summary of Changes Bulmershe School There are no changes to bus services at Bulmershe School. Bus routes and timetables remain the same. Chiltern Edge School Service 923 will now operate non-stop between Henley Road, County Boundary and Ariel View. The following stops will no longer be served by service 923: Earlsfield Close Galsworthy Drive Montpelier Drive These bus stops will continue to be served by service 922 in the afternoons. In the morning, passengers should walk to bus stops on Caversham Park Road to catch service 922. Denefield School In response to feedback from Denefield School, the service 15 that leaves from inside the school grounds at 15:20 will now depart at 15:15. It will follow the same route, calling at each bus stop five minutes earlier than it does currently. There has also been a minor change to the afternoon timetable of the 991 in Whitley; it now serves three additional stops beyond Northumberland Avenue, with a new terminus at Spencer Road. Little Heath School Service 26L has a completely revised timetable. Buses will depart significantly earlier in the morning, in order to offer an earlier arrival time at Little Heath School. This is in response to feedback from parents. Pupils will have more time at school before the day starts, and any delays that occur due to traffic congestion will have less of an impact. In the afternoon, the bus will continue to leave Little Heath School at 15:40, although it will have a revised timetable throughout the rest of its journey. The route of the 26L has been altered slightly; the bus will no longer serve IKEA, in order to reduce the journey time for pupils. Additionally, in the mornings the bus will use Chapel Hill and Little Heath Road; in the afternoons the bus will continue to use City Road.
Service 33 has a slightly revised timetable in both directions. Service 33S has a slightly revised timetable in both directions. Buses will depart slightly earlier in the morning, in order to offer an earlier arrival time at Little Heath School. This is in response to feedback from parents. Pupils will have more time at school before the day starts, and any delays that occur due to traffic congestion will have less of an impact. In the afternoon, the bus will continue to leave Little Heath School at 15:45, although it will have a revised timetable throughout the rest of its journey. The morning journey will start from Kettering Close, and not serve Calcot, Mill Lane. The afternoon journey will continue to terminate at Calcot, Mill Lane. Theale Green School Service 1S has a slightly revised timetable in the morning. Buses will depart earlier from most stops, with journey times increased to take account of worsening traffic congestion along this route. In response to feedback from Theale Green School, service 15T will depart five minutes later in the afternoon, at 15:10. It will follow the same route, calling at each bus stop five minutes later than it does currently. This is to give pupils more time to get from the school building to the bus park at the end of the day. Service 26T has a completely revised timetable. Buses will depart earlier in the morning, in order to offer an earlier arrival time at Theale Green School. This is in response to feedback from parents. Pupils will have more time at school before the day starts, and any delays that occur due to traffic congestion will have less of an impact. In the afternoon, the bus will leave Theale Green School slightly earlier, at 15:10, and will have a revised timetable throughout its journey. The route of the 26T has been altered slightly; the bus will no longer serve IKEA, in order to reduce the journey time for pupils.
