Dear Colleagues, in this edition we are coming with many novelties on the Third Academic Meeting of the Working Group of Neotropical Zooarcheology that will take place between the 22nd and 24th of November 2017 in the city of San José de Mayo, Uruguay (near to the capital city of Montevideo). In this you will find the preliminary schedule of the meeting, information on accommodation, transfer, and precisions on oral presentations, posters and the field trip. The meeting We remind you that the Third Academic Meeting of the NZWG-ICAZ will have as a general theme: From ocean to ocean, multiple views on the relationships between humans and animals in the Neotropics. The meeting will be dedicated to the memory of Dr. Christopher Markus Götz, who recently leaved us and did so much for the Zooarchaeology of our continent. It will be organized in two days of conferences, oral sessions and posters, which will take place in Espacio Cultural San José Wednesday 22nd and Thursday 23rd. Friday 24th will be dedicated to the field trip in which will visit different archaeological areas of the Department of San José (see below). We are pleased to inform you that we have received and accepted 39 papers. Of these, thirty-five are oral presentations, which have been organized into four thematic sessions: (1) Methodological tools for interpreting the neotropical archaeofaunal record; (2) Regional paths (3) Human / animal relationships on neotropical coastal and riverine environments; and (4) Archaeological record of neotropical small carnivores. The posters integrate a separate session, which does not overlap with the rest of the sessions. Field trip Starting from San José, you will visit the Sierra de Mahoma and the town of Kiyu. Sierra de Mahoma is a low hill with rock art. The visit to the hill includes a talk about the rock art given by researchers of the area. After lunch, you will visit to the archaeological sites of Kiyu locality and a tour to the de la Plata river coast. The tentative times of departure and arrival are 8 am and 6 pm, respectively. The trip will have no cost for those who register. Lunch is not included. Varieties of economic options are available on local gastronomy. Presentation of the works and format of the posters: Oral contributions will feature 15 minutes plus 5 minutes for questions. The posters must be drawn vertically, 80 cm (width) x 100 cm (high). The venue: Sessions will take place at the Espacio Cultural San José, in the intersection between18 de Julio and Treinta y Tres Streets in, San José de Mayo, Uruguay. The city of San José de Mayo was founded in 1783 and it is located in southern Uruguay, 93 km west of capital city Montevideo, at a strategic location in the intersection of Mercosur vial corridor (http://sanjose.gub.uy/departamento/ubicacion-geografica/). The town is the capital of the Department of San José, one of the 19 Departments of the República Oriental del Uruguay. 4

San José Department is characterized by its diverse natural and cultural attractions, including an archaeological heritage of more than five millenniums (http://sanjose.gub.uy/departamento/turismo/). Singular landscapes to visit include the stone seas of the so-called Sierra de Mahoma, salty wetlands at the Río Santa Lucía basin (protected area of Santa Lucía wetlands and seat of the Centro de Investigación Regional Arqueológica y Territorial CIRAT-San José), and important beaches over the Río de la Plata. The town of San José in particular, where the meeting will take place, has a significant architectural heritage that includes the Bartolomé Macció Theater, founded in 1912.The meeting sessions and activities will take place both there and at the Espacio Cultural, where there are conference rooms(http://sanjose.gub.uy/gobierno/dependencias/). For further information, please check: http://sanjose.gub.uy/. How to get there: The city of San José de Mayo is located in the Department of San José and is accessed to via from routes 3 and 11. We explain how to get there by car or bus from two different points of Uruguay: 1. Colonia del Sacramento and 2. Montevideo 5

1.How to get there from Colonia 1.1 By car (from the Port) It is reached through Routes 1 and 3. Below we leave the indications to get to the center of the City of San José. Distance: 136 km 6

1. Head northeast on Av. Buenos Aires to Manuel Lobo 400 400 m 2. At the roundabout, take the third exit towards Avenue Franklin D. Roosevelt 1,0 km 3. Turn right to Dr. Becerro de Bengoa 70 m Another option may be to take Route 11 when crossing the village Ecilda Pauilier, but the conditions of this route are not optimal. 1.2 By bus If you took the Buquebus service, you have two options: a. Get off at the intersection of Route 1 and Route 3. Timetables will be coordinated so that the day before and the morning of the first day of the Meeting, there will be a vehicle that will transport the attendants from that Radial to San Jose. Travel to Montevideo and take a bus to San José (see how to get there from Montevideo). 1.3 Rent a van In the city of Colonia, there is a shuttle service for passengers in a van. Bringing together several people can hire the service to take passengers to San Jose. The cost and quantity of passengers required should be consulted directly with the companies. How to get there from Montevideo 2.1 By car (form the Port) You must take the accesses, Rambla Portuaria (Rambla Sud América, Rambla Edison and Rambla Baltasar Brum) to the junction with Route 1, continue along Route 1 to the junction with Route No. 3, and then take Route 3 towards North. Below we leave the indications to get to the center of the City of San José. Distance: 95.5 km. 1.Go to the Southwest in Rambla on August 25, 1825 to Solis 160 m 2.
