Important information about 4 15 APRIL 2018 The Gold Coast is about to host the 2018 Commonwealth Games and this is the chance for all residents to be a part of this exciting event. This once in a lifetime opportunity will see 11 days of world class competition from 4 15 April 2018 on our doorstep. Support from the community is essential in making this a successful international event. Grab this chance to experience the Games atmosphere, the sporting events, the Festival 2018 entertainment and extend a warm welcome to our athletes and visitors. This will bring challenges to our roads and may bring disruption to our daily lives, however these games will offer our community more than just a legacy of bricks and mortar but great memories and opportunities for future generations.
Celebrating the event Beautiful will host several exciting events during the Commonwealth Games. Along with the Lawn Bowls competition, the Netball Preliminary Rounds and Basketball Finals, will celebrate with free Festival 2018 events and accommodate the Main Media Centre. Venue construction The community will see fencing erected in Victoria ahead of the construction of the temporary GC2018 Superstore. This build begins on 17 November, opening to the public on 15 December. At Bowls Club, work begins on stadium seating in Armrick from 1 March. A slip lane will allow access to residents during this construction. There will be no access to Bowls Club from mid-march. In early March construction will begin at Soccer Club grounds, Nikiforides, Croquet Club and the Kindergarten Carpark. Residents can expect to see these areas transformed with fencing, cabins, a media marquee and workforce areas. Carpark closures will be in place from early March to late April. From January to March there will be modifications to median islands and speed humps in preparation for the Marathon. Build of the Festival 2018 hubs will start 25 March transforming Kurrawa, Mall and. Trucks will be in operation during all venue construction; dust and noise will be moderated by the use of scrim fencing and water hosing measures. *Construction will take place six days per week, from 6:30am to 6:30pm subject to weather. Just prior to the Games, Festival 2018 will require a 24 hour build period.
