ALPE-ADRIA-TOUR From Villach to Grado!!! NEW 2018!!! Self-guided tour approx. 382-479 km 7 days /6 nights Description Starting point of this road bike holiday is the Drau town of Villach, with its picturesque pedestrian zones and cafés. Here you can really feel the Carinthian people s zest for life, and the focus is on celebrating, especially around Carnival time and the famous Kirchtag fair. The Kärnten Therme in Villach-Warmbad is one of the most modern spa experience worlds in Austria, and is open all year round. A side trip takes you to Lake Ossiacher See. Because of its particular climatic conditions, you can take a bath from May on. The tour leads from Austria over the border to Italy, more precisely to the region Friuli-Venezia Giulia. From the Southern Limestone Alps with the biggest connected woodlands, to the green hilly landscape in the middle and the lagoons or rather the Karst landscape in the south you will pass through completely different countrysides. The region at the north end of the Adria has much to offer even in culinary way: fantastic wines, tasty cheeses and at least the world-famous Prosciuto di San Daniele. Characteristics of the route Sporty cycling tour for road bikers with good basic training running on asphalted cycling paths and little trafficked roads. In the Gailtaler and Carnic Alps you have to overcome longer ascents, apart from that most of the route is hilly or flat.
