SUMMER CAMP YMCA OF PORTSMOUTH #BestSummerEver
Get ready for a summer of ADVENTURE AND FUN welcome to camp CAMPING WITH THE YMCA All campers will spend time participating in various field trips or recreational activities at the Portsmouth YMCA. Each session will have children taking part in sports, field games, crafts, character value development, environmental education and some traditional aspects of camping which may include canoeing, crabbing and nature trails. Afternoons are spent at the YMCA, participting in arts and crafts, gym games/outside play, reading enrichment, interactive zone and YMCA swim lessons. MAKING NEW FRIENDS Our YMCA summer camp is not just a summer experience; it is full of lifetime memories. Making friends is an important part of life and we try to make it a fun and easy experience. The importance of group bonding is emphasized by placing campers with others their own age in groups with a low child staff ratio. FIELD TRIPS Special field trips are planned for each Tuesday and Wednesday of camp. Trips are subject to change due to weather or at the discretion of the camp director. The cost of each trip will be announced prior to the trip and in some cases may include lunch. CAMPERS MUST WEAR THEIR CAMP T-SHIRTS ON ALL FIELD TRIPS. (provided on the first day of each session) DAY CAMP HOURS Scheduled camp activities begin promptly at 8:30 a.m. and end at 4:30 p.m. The YMCA provides supervised extended care that allows parents to drop off campers at the YMCA as early as 6:00 a.m. and pick them up as late as 6:00 p.m., with no additional charge. Children picked up later than 6:00 p.m. will be required to pay a late fee.
TEEN ADVENTURE CAMP (TAC) & CAMPERS IN LEADERSHIP TRAINING PROGRAM (C.I.L.T.) Our TAC/CILT programs are designed for 12-15 year olds. They are in camp to have fun as well as develop leadership skills. They will have specific responsibilities that help in daily camp activities, work with younger campers and develop skills that will help them better serve others and their community. While participating in the TAC/CILT program campers will get to work on a service learning project that they will design and complete in addition to community volunteer opportunities. DAY CAMP #BestSummerEver Like younger campers our TAC & CILT participants will have weekly field trips. Each week we will go to one of the following places: Busch Gardens, Ocean Breeze Waterpark, Dave & Busters, Tides Game or the Adventure Park at the Virginia Aquarium. The cost for these field trips is included in the cost for camp. Campers will need to wear their camp shirts for these field trips. Successful participation in the TAC & CILT programs will give campers an opportunity to participate in the YMCA s pilot Teen Leaders Club as well as volunteer opportunities in the future.
