Infrastructure Services Page 2 of 3 Report No. IS-26-07 Purpose of Report The purpose of the report is to inform Council of a housekeeping amendment necessary to the Consolidated Traffic By-law 2000-89 Being a By-law to Regulate Traffic and Parking on the Highways of the Town of Fort Erie - Schedules A, C & E to place parking/stopping restrictions as is currently signed on roads transferred from Regional Municipality of Niagara to the Town of Fort Erie in 2000. Analysis Background Upon transfer of certain Regional roads to the jurisdiction of the Town of Fort Erie the Consolidated Traffic By-law 2000-89 was not amended to include the parking restrictions on the transferred roads. At the Traffic Coordinating Committee meetings of October 25, 2005 and February 28, 2006 it was recommended that the roads in question be reviewed to see what signage was in place and what signage and/or changes to the existing by-laws were required. Appendices A, B and C to this report are the results of the review and indicate changes necessary to the existing by-law to be consistent with signage in place and signage necessary. Financial/Staffing Implications Funds for signage have been allocated in the 2007 Budget. Signs will be purchased and installed by Town Operations Staff. Policies Affecting Proposal The following legislation is pertinent to the posting of parking restrictions on municipal roads and highways: Town of Fort Erie Consolidated Traffic By-law 2000-89 Being a By-law to Regulate Traffic and Parking on the Highways of the Town of Fort Erie (as amended) Municipal Act 2001, as amended Public Transportation and Highway Improvement Act, Ontario Regulation 104/97 Highway Traffic Act, R.S.O. 1990 Comments from Relevant Departments/Community and Corporate Partners The requirements and implementation of posting the parking restriction signage was reviewed by the Traffic Coordinating Committee with Infrastructure Services Operations and Engineering Staff.

Infrastructure Services Page 3 of 3 Report No. IS-26-07 Alternatives As this is primarily a housekeeping issue regarding signage in place or to be replaced (as per the transfer of these Regional Municipality of Niagara roads to the Town of Fort Erie in 2000) no alternative is provided. Conclusion The Consolidated Traffic By-law 2000-89, Schedules A, C & E must be amended to place the parking/stopping restriction on the transferred roads as per Appendices A, B & C to reflect current signage installed and/or to be placed as per the transfer of roads to the jurisdiction of the Town of Fort Erie in 2000.
