Remediatin Strategies District 7 Caltrans has been wrking very clsely with FHWA fr many years twards understanding the causes and identifying mst effective strategies t remedy degradatin levels. The prpsed Actin Plans Strategies were develped by the District with input frm Caltrans HQ and FHWA-Califrnia Divisin. Remediatin Strategies Shrt Term Imprve mainline peratin by remving lane drps thrugh Restriping Mre assertive ramp and cnnectr metering peratin In partnership with Metr, Enhance Freeway Service Patrl (FSP) peratin/deplyment. Wrk with CHP t imprve enfrcement and incident management Imprve HOV vehicle detectin infrastructure Lng Term HOV Direct Cnnectrs Increase ccupancy in cnjunctin with HOT cnversin in HOV facility where adding an additinal lane is feasible (I-105) 19
Cnclusin In 2011, Califrnia HOV lanes carried abut 13% f the traffic n the freeway during the mrning peak hur and 15% during the evening peak hur Overall increase in cngestin in the latter half f the year, particularly after schl begins in the late summer Recurrent cngestin r ther factrs culd be causing degradatin The 2011 HOV Degradatin Reprt and Actin Plan were develped in cmpliance with federal laws The 180-day timeframe t remediate degradatin begins when the reprt was submitted t the FHWA, n August 1 st, 2013 Our lng recrd f wrking clsely with FHWA will help us t cntinue t find efficient and effective slutins t HOV degradatin challenges. 21
What s Next? Awaiting fr fficial respnse frm FHWA. Anticipated t be received in September 2013 2012 Degradatin Reprt is currently in prgress Additinal studies may be needed. 22
