Skip (Camp Counsellor), Kids Camp Camp counselors at Kids Camp are referred to as a Skip. This leadership volunteer role is perfect for individuals who have previous experience working with children or youth between the ages of 5 and 16. As a Skips, you can be quiet, shy, outgoing or loud but above all, you should be enthusiastic about creating a safe, fun, inclusive and supportive environment to campers. Skip volunteers are members of a 2 or 3 person team (with at least 1 returning volunteer), are assigned a group of campers divided by age and gender. As a Skip, you are responsible for accompanying campers to activities, playing alongside them, facilitating morning and bed time routines, and swimming in the lake or sleeping in a tent, etc. 1. Ensure the safety, wellness, and hygiene of assigned campers 2. Collaborate with co-skip to create a healthy cabin environment that supports positive behaviour and attitudes 3. Role model positive behaviour to campers and workforce by following all camp rules and engaging in activities 4. Engage in frequent and open communication with co-skip about assigned campers, cabin dynamic, and collaboration style 5. Communicate all significant camper events, behaviours and emotional responses to Camper Experience team as soon as possible 6. Support the program team at various activities by actively engaging campers and assisting with program duties 7. Provide written assessments and recommendations for assigned campers Must be at least 19 years of age by the start of the accepted session
Host (Camp Counsellor), Family Program Camp counselors at Family Program are referred to as a Host. This supportive volunteer role is perfect for individuals who have previous experience working with families and children/youth, or would like to gain more experience working with children/youth. Although Host volunteers are typically assigned one family, a team of 2 hosts may be assigned to families who are in need of extra support. As a Host, you are responsible for taking care of children while parents/caregivers take a break, engaging with children while parents/caregivers participate in Camp Goodtimes activities and supporting families at meal times, etc. While Hosts should be prepared to support to their assigned family, there is also ample opportunity to interact with ALL families and campers during your session. 1. Supervise children during parent/caregiver programming 4. Role model positive behaviour to campers and workforce by following all camp rules and remaining engaged in activities 5. Youth Camp Counsellor, Teen Program This two-dimensional, leadership volunteer role is perfect for individuals who have experience working with youth and previous training or experience facilitating outdoor activities such as horseback riding, pottery, mountain biking, and cooking. Camp Counsellors will also have previous experience with youth programming outside of Camp Goodtimes. Camp Counsellor volunteers are members of a 2 or 3 person team (with at least 1 returning volunteer) and are assigned a group of campers divided by age and gender. As a Camp Counsellor, you can be timid, shy, outgoing or loud but above all, you should be enthusiastic about creating a safe, fun, inclusive and supportive environment to campers. 1. Ensure the safety, wellness, and hygiene of assigned campers 2. Collaborate with co-skip to create a healthy cabin environment that supports positive behaviour and attitudes 3. Arts & Crafts Team This creative volunteer role is perfect for individuals who are imaginative, artistic, crafty and organized, or have previous experience running an arts & crafts program. Arts & Crafts (AC) volunteers are members of a 2 person team and work closely with the Program Director to implement pre-planned arts and crafts activities, maintain the awards tent, and help organize and decorate for all program activities. When the AC Team is not facilitating Arts & Crafts programs, they spend their time supporting other program areas, assisting with cabin groups and families, or helping out in other ways to make the magic of camp a reality. 1. Support the safety, wellness, and hygiene of campers while at Arts & Crafts 2. Collaborate with Arts & Crafts team to create a healthy environment that supports positive behaviour and attitudes 3. Ensure Arts & Crafts areas are clean and organized 4. Communicate with the Program Supervisor regarding materials, inventory and adjusted programming to prepare and support the next session's Arts & Crafts Team 5. Maintain Arts & Crafts inventory and associated documents Must be at least 19 years of age by the start of the accepted session, 22 years of age for Teen Program
Dining Hall Team This behind the scenes volunteer role is perfect for individuals who share the value in serving others and building caring relationships with camper, families, volunteers and staff at their own pace. Dining Hall Team (DHT) volunteers are members of a 3 to 4 person team and rotate through dining hall duties including the set-up and clean-up of before, during and after meals. Although this role can be physically demanding, your experience at Camp Goodtimes will be as special and rewarding as you make it. When the DHT is not facilitating meal times, they are encouraged to support other program areas, engage with cabin groups and families, or help out in other ways to make the magic of camp a reality. 1. Initiate dialogue with campers and families to create an engaging environment that supports positive relationships 2. Collaborate with fellow Dining Hall Team members to create a healthy environment that supports positive behaviour and a "can-do" attitude 3. Set up, facilitate and clean up snack and beverage stations at activities 4. Set up and clean up dining hall and deck area before and after meals 5. Help serve desserts at meal times 6. Wash and put away dishes Must be at least 19 years of age by the start of the accepted session, 22 years of age for Teen Program
Lifeguard Team This all-hands-on-deck volunteer role is perfect for individuals with a valid NLS Award and love the waterfront. Lifeguard volunteers are members of a 5 person team and deliver all waterfront activities and related programming. Waterfront activities include (but are not limited to) swimming, swimming instruction, boating, kayaking, paddleboarding, the water trampoline, etc. Lifeguards are also responsible for assisting the Waterfront Supervisor in regular maintenance, organization and inventory of waterfront equipment. Although this role can be physically demanding, your experience at Camp Goodtimes will be as special and rewarding as you make it. When the Lifeguard team is not facilitating meal times, they are encouraged to support other program areas, engage with cabin groups and families, or help out in other ways to make the magic of camp a reality. 1. Support the safety of campers and workforce at Waterfront 2. Collaborate with Lifeguard team to create a healthy environment that supports positive behaviour and attitudes at Waterfront 3. Engage campers and workforce in Waterfront programming, including boating, swimming and free time. APIC (All-Purpose In Camps) This multi-purpose volunteer role is perfect for individuals who are skillful, versatile, flexible and not opposed to heavy lifting, organizing, unpacking and completing odd jobs as they arise. It is extremely helpful that APICs be familiar and comfortable with using power tools. Also, it as an asset when APIC volunteers can assist with leading outdoor activities such as archery, canoeing, kayaking, other outdoor skills, etc. Although this role can be physically demanding, your experience at Camp Goodtimes will be as special and rewarding as you make it. When the APIC team has completed regular tasks, they are encouraged to support other program areas, engage with cabin groups and families, or help out in other ways to make the magic of camp a reality. 1. Leaders in Training Assistant (LIT) This leadership volunteer role is perfect for a returning volunteer who is passionate about leadership and has previous experience working with youth (age 16 18). The LITA provides support to the LIT Supervisors who facilitate the Leaders in Training Program and help LIT Participants develop communication skills, trust- and respect-building skills, presentation skills and general leadership skills. 1. Ensure the safety, wellness, and hygiene of LIT campers 2. Collaborate with LIT Supervisor to create a healthy cabin environment that supports positive behaviour and attitudes 3. Role model positive behavior to LIT campers and workforce by following all camp rules and remaining engaged in activities 4. Engage in frequent and open communication with LIT Supervisor about assigned campers and cabin dynamics 5. Communicate all significant camper events, behaviours and emotional responses to Camper Experience team (Volunteer Assistants, Camper Experience Assistant, Camper Experience Supervisor) as soon as possible 6. Attend all Skip meetings 7. Exploration Project Assistant (EXPA) This leadership volunteer role is perfect for a returning volunteer who is passionate about leadership and has previous experience working with young adults (age 18-20). The EXP-A facilitates activities developed for The Exploration Project and supports the discovery of and focus on self-reflection, self-empowerment, personal accountability and tools to cope with living each moment to its fullest. Each session has a theme with opportunities for participants to support each other, explore self, and gain skills that could help with future employment, support healthy living, or open to new experiences. Past themes include Food and Nutrition and Bronze Cross certification. 1. Support curriculum design and planning of program delivery in advance of camp. 2. Coordinate with Camp and Program Directors to ensure that participants of a balance of learning, experiencing, resting, and giving back. 3. Coordinate with Camp and Program Directors to bring in outside facilitators for specific content knowledge as needed. 4. Deliver core elements of curriculum to EXP participants. 5. Act as a co-host to the EXP participants during the program. 6. Provide a report-back to the CGT Leadership team outlining any feedback about successes of the program, and things to integrate for next time. Program Assistant (PA) returning volunteers only This leadership volunteer role is perfect for a returning volunteer who is passionate about our Camp Goodtimes mission, enthusiastic about coordinating all ongoing Camp Goodtimes activities, and eager to embrace our annual theme whole-heartedly. Program Assistant (PAs) are members of a 2 person team and work closely with the Program Director to enrich program activities offered at Camp. Using their unique skills and talents, PIs set up, facilitate, instruct and clean up designated activities. 1. Collaborate with the Program Director, Program Supervisor and other PAs to deliver programming that is fun, engaging and consistent with the goals and objectives of Camp Goodtimes 2. Role model positive behaviour to campers and workforce by following all camp rules and remaining enthusiastically engaged in activities 3. Support campers and workforce in participating fully in program activities by using encouragement, positive reinforcement and motivation strategies 4. Fully engage in the camp theme by wearing costumes to all applicable program activities Previous Camp Goodtimes experience Must be at least 19 years of age by the start of the accepted session, 22 years of age for Teen Program
Volunteer Assistant (VA) returning volunteers only This supportive volunteer role is perfect for a returning volunteer who is caring, considerate and passionate about supporting campers, families, and volunteers. Volunteers interested in this role should also have previous experience in a similar capacity (ex. Teacher, Early Childhood Educator, Behavioural Interventionist, Medical Practitioner, or Social/Support Worker, etc.). Volunteer Assistants (VAs) are members of a 3 or 4 person team and work closely with the Camper Experience Director to communicate, coach and support Hosts and Skips at each camp session. 1. Collaborate with Camper Experience Team, Skips and Hosts to create healthy cabin environments that support positive behaviour and attitudes 2. Support Skips and Hosts in consistently engaging and implementing effective behaviour management strategies with campers 3. Provide direct in-person coaching to Skips and Hosts when necessary 4. Communicate all significant camper, Skip and Host behaviours and emotional responses to Camper Experience Team as soon as possible after they occur 5. Provide breaks for volunteers by covering their roles 6. Attend daily VA, Skip and Nook meetings 7. Role model positive behavior to campers and workforce by following all camp rules and remaining enthusiastically engaged in activities 8. Assist with volunteer recognition Previous experience being a Skip or Host at Camp Goodtimes Previous experience coaching or supporting the development of volunteers or staff Comfortable providing direct and constructive feedback to Skips, Hosts, Camper Experience Team and Camp Director Must be at least 19 years of age by the start of the accepted session, 22 years of age for Teen Program
