Modern shopping at Beijing APM Beijing APM in the heart of Wangfujing is a favourite shopping and entertainment hot spot in the city. Corporate social responsibility SHKP lives up to its corporate social responsibility by supporting numerous charities, promoting education, helping the needy and encouraging community harmony and healthy family living. The company has a strong commitment to protecting the environment, and it incorporates green features in its operations and property management to promote green living. Green living In line with its Building Homes with Heart principle, SHKP is committed to conserving resources. It has an environmental committee to oversee green policies and ensure that they are consistently applied in planning, design, construction, material sourcing, landscaping and property management. It also encourages residents to participate in environmental protection through green initiatives by its two property management companies Hong Yip and Kai Shing. Green education at Ma Wan Park Ma Wan Park Nature Garden combines themes of nature, education, art and love. Over 90% of the 5.6-hectare park is covered in greenery, and levered paths built along the hills are among the extensive measures to keep the ecology and plants intact, preserve thousands of native trees and offer a lush natural environment for visitors. The Windmill Station uses renewable energy like solar, wind power, ground heat, biomass and hydro systems to power some of the Park facilities, cut down on pollution from conventional power generation and provide a database for research on conservation and enhancing environmental awareness. 2 9

Promoting knowledge SHKP believes that knowledge is key to the future, and it set up the SHKP Book Club in 2005 to promote reading in Hong Kong through activities including book review and young writers competitions, seminars hosted by noted scholars and a free literary magazine. The Book Club also helps children from low-income families buy books and take part in reading programmes. SHKP has worked with the Chinese University of Hong Kong to bring Nobel laureates to speak in a series of public talks since 2004. Bringing art to life SHKP encourages art and culture. Its SHKP Charitable Fund collaborated with the government and cultural groups to create a City Art Square displaying sculptures by local and overseas artists entwined with an Olympic theme. Beijing Olympic Supporter SHKP supported the 2008 Beijing Olympics as a Property Developer Supporter of the equestrian events in Hong Kong and donated towards the construction of the Water Cube in Beijing. It also hosted a delegation of mainland Olympic gold medalists visiting Hong Kong. SHKP s Royal Park Hotel in Sha Tin was the first Olympic Village in Hong Kong and Vice Chairman and Managing Director Thomas Kwok was one of the runners in the Hong Kong leg of the torch relay. SHKP-Kwoks Foundation nurtures mainland talent The SHKP-Kwoks Foundation is active in promoting educational development on the mainland. The Foundation has set up over ten scholarship programmes in major mainland tertiary institutions since 2002, with over 1,000 beneficiaries. It also runs a scholarship programme at the Chinese University of Hong Kong for mainland students, and sponsored top executives from 50 major mainland corporations to receive training at Cambridge University in Britain. 31
