ABOUT THE AWARDS The Queensland Tourism Awards are hosted and presented by the Queensland Tourism Industry Council (QTIC), the state s peak industry body for tourism. For 31 years, the Queensland Tourism Awards have recognised the outstanding achievements of the state s tourism industry, including individuals, businesses (industry operators) and events. The Awards are a submission and inspection based program and provide the opportunity to publicly acknowledge and showcase Queensland s fi nest tourism operators. The Awards cover 29 categories ranging from attractions, events, tour and transport, accommodation, restaurants, culture, ecotourism, marketing and recognition for individuals. The Queensland Tourism Awards aim to: Publicly recognise and reward excellence throughout the Queensland tourism industry Support improved planning, development and internal analysis for tourism businesses The annual Queensland Tourism Awards provides the perfect opportunity for the industry to come together and celebrate collective success. QAL has enjoyed a nine-year association with the Queensland Tourism Awards as the presenting partner, and we continue to be inspired by the vast array of tourism businesses throughout the state. ABOUT THE AWARDS cont. Sarina Sugar Shed has been entering the Queensland Tourism Awards (QTA) for the past seven years. We were extremely excited and honoured to win 2015 Gold Award for Excellence in Food Tourism and Gold for Distilleries, Wineries and Breweries. Our volunteers were also rewarded with a Bronze Award in the Most Outstanding Contribution by a Volunteer Group. Winning these awards gave our Council staff, volunteers and community well deserved recognition and is a great boost as we commence 2016 with new ideas, high spirits and expectations. Winning these awards has already raised our profi le and signifi cantly increased visitation and we have been promoting our Award wins in all our marketing. We commend the Queensland Tourism Awards and encourage tourism industry businesses to actively participate. Promote a benchmark for industry best practice Reinforce the value and contribution of Queensland s $23 billion tourism industry Emphasise consumer confi dence and industry pride for Queensland s tourism products and regions Encourage the continual raising of standards among Queensland tourism operators through accreditation and certifi cation Provide an annual platform of celebration for the industry through networking opportunities for industry, supporters and sponsors Offer an opportunity for successful entrants to progress to the Australian Tourism Awards and compete against other states at a national level. AWARDS MANAGEMENT The Queensland Tourism Industry Council (QTIC) is the peak industry body for tourism in Queensland, acting as The Voice of Tourism. QTIC is a private sector, membership-based organisation representing the interests of the tourism and hospitality industry across Queensland. QTIC has proudly hosted and managed the Queensland Tourism Awards since 2010. GALA CEREMONY The Queensland Tourism Awards Gala Ceremony is recognised as the largest and most prestigious event for Queensland s collective tourism industry. Each year, the QTA Gala Ceremony brings together 900 guests to celebrate and acknowledge the outstanding achievements of peers and colleagues. The Gala Ceremony provides an opportunity to network with Federal and State Ministers, Board members from QTIC and Tourism and Events Queensland, as well as owners, senior managers and key decision makers from the state s leading tourism associations and enterprises. The 2016 Gala Ceremony will be held on Friday 11 November at the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre. ACCREDITATION AND CERTIFICATION In 2016, entrants in business categories of the Queensland Tourism Awards are required to be certified or accredited through a recognised program. Accreditation benefi ts tourism operators by offering a competitive advantage, providing industry recognition of business commitment to quality products and services, and improved business process and planning. QTIC, as host of the Queensland Tourism Awards, is fi rmly committed to continually lifting standards in the Queensland tourism industry and is proud to be managing the Australian Tourism Accreditation Program in Queensland.
