RALLY REPORTS Capitol Kickoff Rally (CKR) CKR had a great turn out this year with 22 airstreams and 45 attendees and 14 of the attendees were new members. The CKR Maintenance rally was held April 27 30 at Bull Run Regional Park in Manassas Virginia. The rally co-hosts were John Dibella and Mary-Lou Gatward. Half of the group arrived on Thursday and we all met at site 4 for a happy hour which gave us a chance to catch up with old friends and meet new friends. We all had supper on our own then met up again for a campfire. On Friday morning we all met for a continental breakfast. Thank you to Dave Gatward for making superb coffee. We then gathered at the pavilion to discuss Airstream maintenance. The discussion ranged from windows, fantastic fans, cleaning mouse fur (the low nap carpet on some airstream walls), to internal tank, electric and propane. The afternoon was spent visiting local sites. Some went to the Manassas battle field, some to Aerospace museum and some of us made a return visit to Suzie s quilt shop. The remainder of the group had arrived at the campground and we met for happy hour. Danee Alaniz put up an extra pop up and surrounded the campfire area with twinkle lights, thank you Danee. We had a great pot luck supper including a great turkey cooked in an infrared cooker (2½ hours from start to finish) thanks Gayle and Rob Sundae. The were lots of dutch oven dishes and of course desert. We all gathered around the campfire at the end of a perfect day. Saturday started off with everyone meeting for a continental breakfast. We then gathered at the pavilion for our flea market. The flea market had used trailer treasures, had weaved towels and embroidered items. There was also a set of red solo cup lights that a certain clown could not get rid of even though he kept reducing the price. The afternoon was on our own to visit with each other or see the sites around Manassas. We had a great happy hour, then another pot luck in the pavilion. Special thanks to Dave Gatward for the Smoker Pork and the succulent Roast Beef. The pot luck food items were outstanding. The temperature at the campsite was in the low 90 on Saturday so we had a small campfire. Danee Alaniz setup his outdoor theatre and a number of us watched Hidden Figures. We were serenaded by a family of Owls part way through the movie. It was either a large family of Owls or they were having a rally too. Sunday was our departure day. Some folks gathered for breakfast and some just hitched up and left. Overall it was a great rally enjoyed by all. Mary-Lou Gatward Capital Times Vol 18 Issue 02 March 2017 Page 9
