Travelling to and from Portugal Flights are available to Lisbon, Porto, or Faro from most major UK & Ireland Airports with Aer Lingus, Easyjet, and Ryanair being the most competitively priced. It is recommended to fly to either Lisbon or Porto, where there is direct bus and train services to both Sao Martinho do Porto and Alfeizerão. Car hire is highly recommended in order to get the full benefit of the locality and area. Please note that insurance cover is not included with any booking and we highly recommend that you make your own insurance arrangements. Lisbon Airport is less than 1 hour from the property, a straight drive along the A8 motorway. Porto Airport is just over 2 hours from the property. Sao Martinho do Porto is easily accessible via regular bus & trains services to & from Lisbon. Local Amenities There are many services and amenities available within walking distance of the property. On turning left on leaving the main entrance to the property s grounds, Urbanizacao Dos Cabecinhos, you will pass an equestrian centre on the right hand side, and continuing on you will find Café Ferreira Pao de Lo. This little café is perfect for relaxing with a cup of coffee or cool drink and offers a variety of delicious, fresh home made tray bakes available at a very reasonable price. In the vicinity of the Café is a wonderful Chinese Shop, which sells everything from toys to hardware, cosmetics to clothes. Everything you could ever need is available here at extremely reasonable prices. If you are fond of cooking, or fancy stocking up for a barbeque, all the freshest of meat you could desire can be found at Talho a Charcutria butchers, which is located just past the Chinese shop on the left hand side. If you need a prescription, or anything that would normally be found in a pharmacy, the Farmacia is ideal. It s illuminated green sign is not easily missed on the right hand side of the main street, with a very friendly and helpful staff who are more than eager to assist you. For all of your food shopping, and groceries, be sure to familiarize yourself with Mini Preco, which is very much the Portuguese equivalent to the UK Spar or Co op. It is situated past all of the previously mentioned on the left hand side of the road. If it is a dentist or masseuse that you require be sure to find the Smiling Enter Dentists on the right hand side of the road. Appointments can be arranged by calling 262 688 105. If you continue to walk you will soon notice the white Chapel, a Roman Catholic place of worship, with weekly mass beginning at 9 am on a Sunday. There are also many other shops and facilities that you will discover, but these are just a few to get you started and acquainted with the local area. All these facilities are within 200 300 metres of the villa, making them extremely accessible and well within walking distance. A few minutes drive from the property is the picturesque, shell shaped bay on Sao Martinho de Porto. It is easily reached car and consists of a beautiful safe beach, wonderful promenade and a range of restaurants, shops and other services. If you wish for a change of scenery, or decide that you would like to have a more comprehensive selection of shopping facilities, Caldas de Rainha (phonetics are Caldish du Rainya) is the closest Page 7 of 12
city to the property, offering all the facilities you would expect of a European city, and is only a 5 10 minute drive from the property. If it is fast food you re after, there is a selection of fast food restaurants available on the way to Caldas, as you will notice on seeing the McDonalds, located at the first roundabout on entering the city. If it s a larger supermarket you require, such as a hypermarche, Modelo, which is the Portuguese equivalent to Tesco or Asda, is easily found by turning right at the McDonalds roundabout, on entering Caldas de Rainha. If you are a lover of oriental food, the Zhe Nan Chinese restaurant is perfect for all the traditional Chinese dishes you would want: curry, sweet and sour chicken etc. It is situated beside the Europcar rental company, at the 3rd roundabout you encounter on your journey into Caldas de Rainha, this can be marked out by the water fountain which lies in the middle the city. Exploring the Area Arbarr can also offer you the opportunity to travel the silver coast of Portugal in a unique way, exploring the history and culture of the country, which will astound you, your family and your friends! Given sufficient notice we can organise these tours through a local coach operator. Of course, if you are an experienced driver, more can be seen through visiting the sites at your own leisure through car or mini bus rental. In addition to the sites below you can explore the various towns along the magnificent coastline and the high surfs in towns such as Nazare, Foz do Arelho, & Peniche. The various towns in the locality and along the coast are home to many activities and events, catering for all interests & age groups. Based in the village of Alfeizerão, only minutes from the beautiful beach and bustling town of São Martinho do Porto (shown above), you will stay in one of two luxurious villas, each complete with 4 Bedrooms, 3 Bathrooms and lots of recreational space, including a spacious living room, kitchen and dining room as well as a large, private terrace where you may relax by the pool and barbeque area! Each house comfortably accommodates up to 10 people, and since there are two of these houses side by side, we can offer accommodation for groups up to 20 people in size! Destinations & Points of Interest Below are a few of the fantastic locations within driving distance of Arbarr s villas. Obidos: Step back in time to the last millennium in Óbidos which is without doubt one of Portugal's most classic walled settlements. Walking the walls, visitors can enjoy amazing views. Walk the narrow cobblestone streets which are lined with whitewashed houses with terracotta roofs. Lisbon: The charm of Lisbon exists in its strong links to the past; renovated palaces, magnificent churches and an impressive castle mirror the city's rich cultural heritage. This capital city is unique among European capitals and is a truly fascinating and diverse city to visit. Fatima: Fatima is famous for the religious visions that took place there in 1917. There are a number of different things to do and see in Fatima, as well as some stunning works of architecture, including Fatima s Basilica. Visit the many sights which surround the Basilica, shop for souvenirs and lunch in one of the local restaurants. Alcobaca Monastery: This vast monastery is recognised world wide and in 1989 it was recognised as a World Heritage Site due both to its size and its architectural style, beauty and design. This breath taking piece of architecture is a site not to be missed on your trip to Portugal! Bathalia: Bathalia is the jewel of the Silver Coast, with it s gothic architecture and heritage. Sample Itinerary Saturday Evening: Arrive at Faro airport and be collected by Arbarr Tours, after a leisurely tour through central Portugal you arrive in the spectacular city of Lisbon where after a short city down you will stop in typical Portuguese restaurant for dinner. Then back on board and a motorway drive to the quaint Portuguese village Alfeizerão where you will be staying arriving around 9.30PM. After you have been shown to your villa and have settled in there will be Induction meeting to outline the week ahead and answer any questions you may have. Sunday: After a relaxing lie in and late breakfast, you can explore the village or attend the local church for mass. The tour bus will pick you up in the early afternoon and bring you to São Martinho do Porto, a town of shopping, beautiful restaurants and a stunning Beach, where you will have no problem keeping yourself entertained, and enjoying what the town has to offer until the end of the day, when the bus will collect you again and return you to Alfeizerão. Monday: Today you will be introduced to Alcobaça, a beautiful city, soaked in history, which is home to Alcobaça Monastery, one of the most magnificent gothic monuments in the country. You will then be brought to the near by town of Cóz and onto the larger, bustling beach town of Nazaré, where the Running of The Bulls is regularly hosted. When you have finished up you will return to Alfeizerão. Tuesday: This will be your longest tour of the trip, on which you will see some of the most breath taking sites Portugal has to offer! Starting in Batalha, another town which plays host to a monastery, The Monastery of Batalha, a tremendous piece of architecture which will simply take your breath away! From here we are close to the world renowned town of Fatima, where Our Lady appeared to three shepherd children. Here you will take in the sites and enjoy the tourist information after which you be given the opportunity to get some lunch and then on to our next stop, which in the lovely Porto de Mós area, the town of Grutas, and after experiencing all that is offered there, including religious land marks as well as some breathtaking caves! After you have experienced your full it s back to Alfeizerão where you can relax in the villa for the night or you may even decide to spend the evening revisiting some areas you have already been, Nazaré, for example, has a busy night life, with plenty of bars and clubs, as an alternative to the quiet night in! Wednesday: Today you will have the opportunity to see some of the natural beauty the Silver Coast has to offer! You ll be escorted along the coast stopping at some of the most magnificent beaches and lagoons, spending time at each and enjoying the fine weather! While at the beaches you will be able to take advantage of the beach front cafés and restaurants! Thursday: The historic walled city of Obidos is the first stop on today s trip. The medieval city is spectacularly preserved and you will very much enjoy the culture and entertainment the city has to offer, the town regularly holds medieval festivals, with music, food and drink! You ll then be brought to do some wine tasting in some of the vineyards in the area before being brought for dinner in either the beautiful sea front resort of Foz do Arelho, which features a huge Lagoon and beach front bars and restaurants, or the world famous city of Peniche, a surfers hot spot a massive beach and a buzzing city. Friday: Friday will be taken as a day of leisure, where you are encouraged to spend the day to either relax by the pool at villa or travel to the nearby city of Caldas da Rainha, which is just 6 miles away. Here you can spend the day winding down and relaxing. You will be able to contact Arbarr Tours representatives who will be happy to help you with transportation or any other assistance you may need. Saturday: Saturday will be your final day and the flights that you have booked will determine what time you will leave for Faro. Stopping at Loures shopping Centre to break up the journey you will be able to make a quick visit to the shops and get some lunch, before heading off to Faro to end your action fulfilling week on the Silver Coast!
