MARCH 2014 ISSUE #382 Crosswinds is the monthly newsletter of Sundance Outdoor Adventure Society, Inc. For the most recent information on Sundance events, visit our website: www.sundanceoutdoor.org Sundancers snowshoeing in Harriman State Park - February 1, 2014 Inside: Winter outing photos p.2 Looking Forward to Warmer Weather: Photos from Popular Sundance Day Hikes p.3-8 About Sundance p.9 Photo by Marianne Ardito 1

The weather in the Northeast has been especially harsh this winter, with repeated snowfall and extended periods of low temperature. Nonetheless, Sundancers have been finding ways to get together for interesting activities, whether out of doors or inside. Our calendar for February and early March included film screenings, visits to museums and art galleries, as well as fun in the outdoors, as you can see from the photos on this page and on page 1. Looking Forward to Warmer Weather: Photos from Popular Sundance Day Hikes With the harshest winter weather hopefully behind us., it s a good time to think about all the great day hikes and interesting walks Sundance has been doing in recent years. As you read through the following pages, look for the hikes you ve enjoyed in the past. If you can be involved this year to make these hikes happen again, plan to attend the Hiking Team planning meeting in early April. Watch for an announce- ment in our weekly email, or send me a note at outings@sundancoutdoor.org We re counting on the experienced members who led these hikes, as well as others familiar with the hikes to help us offer these wonderful outings again this year. Myron Weiskopf info@sundanceoutdoor.org ABOUT SUNDANCE Sundance is a not-for-profit corporation whose primary purpose is to provide the New York metropolitan area gay and lesbian community with a variety of outdoor, noncompetitive activities. Sundance relies entirely on the volunteer efforts of its members to carry out this purpose. A Board of Directors administers club business. Team captains coordinate events and schedule meetings for planning specific types of outdoor activities. Outing leaders conduct the actual events. While outing leaders do have some knowledge and skills in the outings they conduct, they are not experts and no participant should rely on another s skills. Participants should understand that some Sundance outings may pose certain risks of injury. Each outing participant understands that neither Sundance nor any Sundance member will be responsible for any personal injury or property damage that may be sustained during an outing. Sundance is governed by a set of bylaws, the resolutions of the Board of Directors, and a handbook which all members are expected to read and understand. A membership directory is provided for the personal use of members only. Use of the directory for commercial purposes and without the prior written consent of the Board is prohibited and may result in revocation of membership privileges.
