Camp Aspen Lakes HEBER, UTAH General Information Amphitheater Located north of campsite #6 (Far West) is the amphitheater. It is shared with and coordinated among all guests. Portable power can be made available for your sound system from the missionaries upon request. Archery Located west of the amphitheater is the archery range. Camp Aspen Lakes provides targets and youth bows. Guests must bring their own arrows. Please have an experienced adult archer with you who can monitor all activities while you are at the archery range. The missionaries will unlock the archery shed upon request. Bathroom Guidelines as they apply to your campsite It is the responsibility of campers to keep their campsite bathrooms clean. Camp Aspen Lakes provides toilet paper and all cleaning supplies for campers. Please do not flush feminine hygiene products or any garbage the will plug. Campsites #2,3,4,5, and 6 include hot showers. Please bring personal flashlights or LED lanterns for nighttime use as there is no electricity in the bathrooms. Before checking out: Clean: mirrors, showers, and basins. Empty garbage cans and leave them lined with a clean liner. Sweep, hose out, and squeegee bathroom floors. Wilderness campsite: Please sweep and wipe down vault toilet bathrooms. Honey-bucket porta potties: These are serviced weekly for Camp Aspen Lakes by an outside company. Camp Hours (Summer only) Camp opens each week at 8 a.m. on Monday and closes at 2 p.m. on Saturday. Camp is closed every Sunday. If you need assistance with your schedule, please contact the missionaries. Camping This is allowed on designated tent pads in the campsites only. (Please do not place tents on lawns around large pavilion, in team building area, or by lakes unless special permission has been given.) Campsites: Site #1 - Dan s Cove: Holds 20-35 people, 8 tent pads, 5 picnic tables, 3 Honey Bucket porta potties Site #2 - Nauvoo: Holds 65-110 people, 27 tent pads, 16 picnic tables, 2 pavilions, flush
Site #3 - Rocky Ridge: Holds 55-90 people, 18 tent pads, 12 picnic tables, 2 pavilions, flush Site #4 - Kirtland: Holds 25-40 people, 8 tent pads, 7 picnic tables, 1 pavilion, flush Site #5 - Palmyra: Holds 40-70 people, 17 tent pads, 8 picnic tables, 1 pavilion, flush Site #6 - Far West: Holds 35-60 people, 12 tent pads, 8 picnic tables, flush Wilderness camp: Holds 45-75 people, 15 tent pads, 7 picnic tables, vault and Honey Bucket porta potties. For more specific information about the different campsites, please contact the missionaries.* Climbing Wall Located west of campsite #6 Far West at the Obstacle Course is the rock climbing wall. Campers need at least one experienced adult climber with them to teach and monitor the wall activities. All four sides of the wall can be used simultaneously with the four belay positions manned. Helmets, harnesses, ropes, and belay devices are provided. For safety, the wall is locked until needed and will be locked after use. Contact the missionaries for access to the climbing wall equipment. Cooking Cooking in campsites is permitted, but cooking over concrete surfaces or picnic tables is not. Outdoor stoves/grills may be used adjacent to campsite pavilions and should provide grease traps to capture cooking oil/grease. Cooking over a fire is permitted only at the fire ring. Adult supervision is required. Decorations Campsites and the pavilion may be decorated to support the purpose of the camp, but make sure the fastening or mounting devices used do not cause damage or leave sticky residue. (Painter s tape is okay to use.) Fires All fires (if allowed by county fire marshal) must remain in the fire rings and be of small or moderate size. They must be monitored by an adult at all times and be completely extinguished each night, and before leaving the campsite. Firewood This is provided for each camp when available. Please do not cut down any trees. Contact missionaries (camp hosts) with questions about fire bans and availability of firewood.* Flagpoles The large pavilion and all campsites, except for Wilderness camp, have flagpoles. If you plan to use the flagpoles, please bring your own flags. Garbage Pickup and Dumpsters Dumpsters are located near the main pavilion and by the bathroom near campsite #5. Please supply your own trash bags for your campsite (the camp supplies bags for the pavilion and bathrooms), and bag all garbage and compact it as much as possible. Break down and flatten all boxes.
As a special service, missionaries will pick up your trash daily. Please leave your trash at the entrance of your campsite beside the road by 10am and 7pm daily, and when you check out of camp. (Any trash not picked up before nightfall needs to be securely stored in a closed vehicle or placed in one of the camp dumpsters to deter animals.) Hammocks Please do not use hammocks as they can damage trees and poles. They are permitted only if you bring individual stands for them. Hiking Trail There is a 2.3 mile hiking trail that goes around the perimeter of Camp Aspen Lakes. Trail signs around the camp point to the trail heads. Horseshoes An outdoor horseshoe pit is available across from campsite #4; the missionaries can provide horseshoes. Lake Activities There are four lakes at Camp Aspen Lakes. Three of the lakes have canoes and swimming. Two of the lakes have zip-lines. Non-motorized personal water toys are permitted. Canoeing All adults and youth must wear life jackets when on the lakes. Life jackets are provided by the camp, or you are welcome to bring your own. [Beaver Lake, 12 canoes; Aspen Lake, 20 canoes; Henriksen Lake, 9 canoes] Fishing Catch and release fishing is allowed on all four lakes; use of artificial flies and lures with barbless hooks is preferred. Fishing licenses are not required. Bring your own fishing equipment. Swimming Swimming is permitted in three of the lakes with use of life jackets and adult supervision. Personal or camp life jackets may be used. Zip-lining Use of the zip-lines is permitted with use of a life jacket and adult supervision. The zip-lines are located at Aspen and Beaver Lakes. They are designed for the rider to drop into the lake at the end of the ride. Weight limit 225 lbs. One adult is require in the tower when the zip-line is in use. Missionaries (Camp Hosts) Missionaries are located across the road from camp #4 Kirtland. Obstacle Course This is located west of campsite #6 Far West. The obstacle course provides for structured or unstructured activities. Timed events can be run for competition between groups. (See Climbing Wall for additional information.) Parking Parking in Camp Aspen Lakes is monitored for your safety and for preservation of the camp. It is important that there be open access into each campsite in case of an emergency. Due to this, parking vehicles in campsites is limited. General parking is available in the upper lot inside the main camp entrance. Carpooling from the main lot into the individual campsites is recommended. Missionaries can provide additional information on parking availability and help with special need requirements. Pavilion The pavilion can be reserved as a separate site at the camp. It is nestled next to Aspen Lake, and is surrounded by a lawn. The pavilion contains a commercial
kitchen (grills, ovens, refrigerators, freezer, storage shelves) with a serving area and large gathering room. The side walls are roll-up doors that can be opened/closed for environment/ambiance control. There are about 400 chairs and 35 tables, with 8 picnic tables outside. A sound system is installed (inside and out), and a large projection screen is available upon request. Restroom facilities and a shower are included. A diesel generator powers the pavilion. Personal Conduct All who attend Camp Aspen Lakes must observe and follow LDS Church Standards. Modest clothing and bathing suits for males and females are required. Coffee, tea, alcohol, tobacco, and substance abuse are prohibited. Please follow the highest standards of conduct at camp by showing courtesy and kindness to all. Personal Items Camp Aspen Lakes does not have electricity (the pavilion is powered by a generator). It is suggested that campers bring their own source of light for nighttime (ie. flashlights, LED lanterns), insect repellent, and water bottles to avoid dehydration. Pets Please do not bring pets with you unless special permission has been given. Quiet Time Quite hours throughout the camp are from 10pm until 7am. Reservations and Refunds All camp reservations and payments are made online at LDS.org under the heading Recreation Camps. Reservations that are made for Church units (stakes, wards) are paid directly from the unit. Family or other reservations are made by credit card when the camp is scheduled. Refunds are also done online and cancellation must be at least 60 days prior to the scheduled camp date. Safety Please be kind, respect others, and follow all guidelines and rules during your visit. Our goal is for each guest to have a safe and pleasant experience at Camp Aspen Lakes. If you have any questions about the guidelines, please contact the missionaries. We are happy to help you. Service Projects If your group wishes to do a service project while at camp, please let the missionaries know a week or two in advance for planning purposes. It is a good idea to bring work gloves in case they are needed. Team Building The team building area contains five separate challenges designed to foster leadership and teamwork. Guidelines for challenge activities will be provided to group leaders. Missionaries can provide instructions for use upon request. Tents, Trailers and RVs The camp is designed for tent camping as campsites are not set up to handle trailers or RVs. Under special circumstances, permission may be
granted to park trailers, campers or RVs in the upper parking lot. Please contact the missionaries for more specific information.* Vehicle Use Camp Aspen Lakes is intended to provide an outdoor nature experience for campers. Roads are used primarily for convenience in setting up or taking down camps and not for personal transportation during the camp stay. The experience of all campers will be enhanced by minimizing the use of vehicles in the camp. Contact the missionaries if accommodation is needed for special needs campers.* ATVs, OHVs, UTV s, motorcycles, and dirt bikes are used in camp only with special permission, and by the missionaries/camp hosts during the performance of their responsibilities. Volleyball An outdoor volleyball court is available across from campsite #4. Contact the missionaries for a volleyball. Water Potable (drinking) water is available at all campsites and bathrooms. Weapons Please do not bring any paintball equipment or weapons of any kind to camp, the only exception being arrows if you plan on utilizing the archery range. Hunting is strictly prohibited. Wildlife and Vegetation We all must be good stewards of this wonderful camp and work to preserve its natural beauty and wild character. Please respect and keep your distance from all wildlife. Keep a clean camp and make sure food and toiletries are packed safely in cars as not to attract animals. Wild animals attracted to human food are sometimes harmed by it or become a nuisance/danger to humans and must be destroyed.
