The 3,540 Kilometre long river (2,200 miles) has its souce in Zambia and flows through eastern Angola, along the eastern border of Namibia and the northern border of Botswana, then along the border between Zambia and Zimbabwe to Mozambique, where it crosses that country to empty into the Indian Ocean. The Zambezi s most well-known feature is the Victoria Falls. The destination of this great adventure. It is one of the most dramatic places in the world to start an expedition. ITINERARY DAY I - Depart UK DAY2 - Arrive Livingstone and meet Local guides, transfer to lodge, Briefing about Zambezi challenge. Optional river safari taking in great game sights and typical Africian Wildlife DAY 3 - Transfer to Victoria Falls and to our put in point, another safety briefing and then we re off! Before starting a rapid #1 we go for a swim in the rock pools right underneath Victoria Falls!! We will enjoy helicopter flights back up the gorge, giving us a birds eye view of what we ve accomplished. DAY 7 - Free Morning & Transfer to Livinstone Airport for flight back to UK DAY 8- Arrive back in the UK or stay on for Optional Trips DAY 4 - After a hearty breakfast, we encounter further rapids including The Mother and one of the most Thrilling, Rapid #18 also called Oblivion. DAY 5- The Zambezi Challenge continues the first rapid Morning Shower provides us with just that! Another great day of rafting and overnight camp at yet another glourious beach, within sight of the magnificent Lower Moemba Falls. GENERAL INFORMATION EXPEDITION COST All accommodation is included as well as all flights and transfers; internal air tax; all meals; any permits and entry fees to any regions and sites visited as part of the itinerary. Expedition Insurance, Group Equipment, Safety Equipment. Also included is your own Expedition manager and 24 UK Operations and emergency cover whilst you are in country. Experienced Bucket List Company leaders are also included, along with a local support crew of local guides, and cooks. The tour cost does not include personal equipment, entry visa, tips for local crew, or personal spending money. FLIGHT INFORMATION Group flights leave from London Heathrow or Gatwick and are booked through Wexas Travel Ltd under ATOL licence 2873. By travelling with the Bucket List Company your finances are protected. Our itineraries are always based on current flight schedules and are therefore subject to change by the airline. TRANSIT STOPS When booking group flights we endeavour to find the best flights that match our itinerary. There are of ten no direct flights to our destination, so do be prepared for transit stops; bring a good book or chat to your fellow explorers! Airlines that do offer direct flights rarely offer competitive rates for groups. Please remember that the main purpose of our trips is to be reasonably priced. CULTURAL DIFFERENCES AND FOREIGN TRAVEL Everyone wants to travel to have new experiences and our trips are no different. We will let you have new experiences that will push you out of your comfort zone. This is all part of the challenge you are signing up for. The main things you will need to bring with you to gain the most out of your trip are a sense of adventure and a sense of humour, with these in tow you will have a brill iant trip. ACCOMMODATION We will be staying in lodges before & after the river expedition and then camping during the expedition. FOOD All meals are included from when we get to our first lodge and depart Lodge in Livingstone.
GENERAL INFORMATION DIETARY REQUIREMENTS Having dietary requirements is not usually a problem provided you let us know well in advance. PASSPORT, V/SA and VACCINATIONS British passport holders require a visa to enter Zambia. Visas can be obtained from the Zambian High Commission in London (address below). Visa fees for British nationals are US$50 for a single entry visa and US$80 for a double-entry visa. Single entry visit visas are available at all ports of entry, but multi-entry visas are not and must be applied for before travelling. You must hold a valid passport to enter Zambia. Your passport must be valid for a minimum period of six months from the date of entry into Zambia and have two blank pages. We are aware of a number of cases of British nationals being turned back due to the fact that their passport did not comply with this requirement. We insist that you have had a tetanus injection in the last ten years, and recommend protection against Polio, Hepatitis A and Typhoid and Yellow Fever if we are transiting from South Africa (you will need to have a certificate of proof ). There is also a risk of Malaria, so check with your GP or travel clinic. CLOTHING EQUIPMENT We know what you need! Therefore our equipment list will mean that you will be perfectly attired and outfitted for your whole trip and well under baggage allowance. We find most people already have in their possession what is necessary for a trekking trip and very little else in the way of specialised equipment is required. LUGGAGE Luggage is best carried in a large Kit bag (100 litres+). If you need help and support on what to buy please contact us. We can also sell you the kit you require through our extensive network of suppliers. WEAtHER There are three seasons: the dry season (mid-april to August), when temperatures drop at night, but the landscape is green and lush; the hot season (September to mid-november), the best time to see wildlife as flora is sparse; and, the wet season (mid-november to mid-april).
GENERAL INFORMATION FITNESS AND SAFETY Safety is our major concern with any trip we run. All of the guides are chosen for their extensive international experience. They each have at least 10 years running expeditions around the world. All have first aid qualifications of the highest standard including at least one medic on each trip. We carry an extensive First Aid kit and Satellite phones with us at all times. There are no special requirements for this trip, except a huge sense of adventure. There are no restrictions providing you are in reasonable physical shape. Medical forms will be handed out in the booking packs for you to let us know of any medical conditions or allergies you have. TRAINiNG WEEKEND You will have a training weekend with a difference, you will find out more details once you have booked!! TRIP SUPPORT Your trip will be lead by an experienced member of the Bucket List Team. Our leaders are selected and trained by us to make sure they have the correct skills and personality to give you the experience of a lifetime. You will be in safe hands with one of our leaders. Our leaders are UK based and love what they do. The leader will also be supported by an in country team of guides and crew, the in country team are also English speaking. All of our leaders/ Staff are also supported by our UK 24 Hour support Hub. The office is manned with a team that are on hand 24 hours a day to liase with leaders, Insurance companies and our on call doctors. This is our essential contact point for every trip. TIPS FOR LOCAL PORTERS Although this is not compulsory if you feel you have been looked after well, it is a nice gesture to tip the local crew and guides. Your leader will collect any tips given and distribute them fairly.amongst your in country crew.
