We ve had a couple good flying days but overall its been a rough winter. Spring is a couple of weeks away and hopefully we will have a decent spring. Our north field has been underwater for a couple of weeks and we will probably need a call out to clean the mud off the runway in March. Be prepared to come out and help get the North Field ready. We have a couple of Club projects linked up for Spring. First is our Booth at the Purdue Aviation day. We are planning even a greater presence, If the wind isn t bad, we might even have some flying in the hanger (FAA approved 8 oz and less quads helis and planes. We will also have some simulators going on. The Published By: AMA Charter Club 1069 March Flypaper 2018 Purdue Aviation Day Saturday, April 14 and we will begin planning at the March meeting. Starting in May, we will also start up our R/C discovery days We will give 2 Demonstration flight to newbies at the North Field. As last year this will take place from 5-7pm the 2 nd and 4 th Tuesdays of the Month at the North Field. We are looking for a Pilot and or two flying buddies to take over one of the club trainers and be part of the team that gives the demo flights. The club will provide its Sensie trainer, two transmitters two batteries and a charger if needed. Let one of the club officers know if you are interested. In this newsletter, we are attaching the most current version of the Club Bylaws and Safety Guidelines for voting by membership in the March Meeting. The two main items we are voting to change are: Moving the Safety Guidelines to separate appendix and general revisions to the By Laws The new Safety guideline appendix. We ve worked on these for the last several months and I am please with the results. Keep in mind the reason we are separating the Safety Guidelines from the Bylaws is so that we can make sure we can keep our safety procedures current, without the several months process of changing the bylaws. We have been informed by the Parks department that the Senior Center is moving out of Columbian Park and that Jenks Rest is closing in July. We have been given two Choices for a new meeting location by the Park Rush Pavilion (across the lagoon from our current meeting place) The clubhouse at Mcallister Park ( the old golf course pro shop) I ve attached some photos of these options for the membership to review. It would be possible to meet at Mcallister Park for the flying season and move to the Rush Pavilion during the winter. At this point, The Parks Board is going to keep our rental fee the same, but this is subject to change, especially for Rush Pavilion Normally that please let us know. rents for $250 for 5 hours If anyone has other options for a possible club meeting location, Our planned monthly meeting will be held at Jenks Rest 7:00PM Wednesday March 14

Old Business North Montgomery High School Fly Zone is this weekend. Next month on the 4 th of March we are promoting a swap meet as well. Flying is still $5 and if you plan on selling an additional $5. The last Flyzone for 2018 is the 18 th Of March. Our banquet went pretty well and we even collected complements on the food. We still have awards to pass out to Matt Minjarez our 2017 Most Improved Pilot and to Tony Venezia Top Gun for Combat. Ron Smith was on hand to receive his Cloud Jockey of the Year award. Al passed out field safety rules the AMA has a new shortened safety code that looks a lot like our own code. The main concern contained within our safety is the South landing approach. (AKA: the dog bone) Key to safe operation is to avoid overflying the walking trail. Essentially stay above the short grass as a boundary. Another contention is the 400ft rule; the AMA suggests use your best judgment. Section 336 on the AMA (FAA) code is the rule that keeps the FAA from treating us as commercial pilots. Check your FAA number to see what your expiration is. Because of the off and on again nature of our FAA registration you may be current or you might not. Originally the FAA was supposed to be good for 3 years. As of the meeting McAllister is muddy and there some mud on the runway but it is possible to get there. Everyone is aware of a viral video from Las Vegas of a drone overflying a commercial jet on final. The video from is suspected to be doctored footage, let us all hope so. Matt McDonough Ron Smith - Cloud Jockey of the Year The FAA does not want any part of nuisance infractions maintaining that there are trespass and endangerment laws to govern local infractions. The FAA is only concerned with controlling airspace. Show and tells Bill Vollmer built his Rafale using 6 and 3mm Depron. He borrowed the canopy from a much larger model. To cut it down evenly he inverted the canopy and filled it with water thus giving him a level to trace. Al Borges started a build 2S project around a brick receiver he had picked up. The plane he chose was a HobbyKing MXS F3P Ultralite Composite Indoor 3D. But the brick contained a surprise the it was programmed with AS3X that was (Continued on page 3)
incompatible with the airframe but it could be switched off. The $31 cut-out kit used.2 mil Mylar and depron. To protect the craft during transport Al also built a foam core box. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-dkzx_0mfys New business / show and tell Matt McDonough showed off his new build of a S.P.A.D HOR. (Hell on Rails) The simple combat plane is SCC legal. The wing is made from 2mm coreplast using silicone caulk for adhesive. You have to be careful how you order your 2mm so that the flutes run the correct direction. If you want to get into combat with a tough cheap plane that doesn t require foam cutting this is it. (BTW Matt has some 2mm leftover.) Lookup http://spadtothebone.net/freeplans.htm and look for HOR. Purdue Aviation day coming in April, 2-3. We will be looking to up our game with space and planes sims and TV sets. Randy Leazenby made a trip to Kokomo to judge a music contest and took the opportunity to visit the hobby store there.
