When Erwin Hymer designed and built the first motorhome in 1961, no-one could have guessed that this was the beginning of a success story. The Caravano on Borgward chassis was actually way ahead of its time. After the business failure of Borgward in the same year, it took a whole decade until a successor was launched on Mercedes chassis, which was the first Hymermobil. In the mid 70s, series production began, followed immediately by development of the first A-class motorhomes. By 1978, Hymer had delivered more than 1000 vehicles to its customers. In 1981, the Hymermobil B-Class was introduced. To this day, it is the most successful motorhome of all time in Europe, with more than 50,000 examples sold. For many camping fans, it is the benchmark of mobile holidaying per se. I have always built what customers wanted, says Erwin Hymer. Many of his inventions, such as wind-up skylights, wheel housing refrigerator, drop-down bed, PUAL wall design or heated double floor, have influenced development in the camping industry. To date, Hymer has delivered almost 150,000 motorhomes around the world: from camping buses to compact and coachbuilt models, up to a large selection of semi-integrated and A-class vehicles that will also form the focal point of model generations to come. Pleasant temperatures: The Premium 50 special edition models are fitted with an engine-driven air conditioning system in the cab. Fresh air at the press of a button: Comfortable and simple. The cab windows on the left and right are opened and closed via electric regulators. Good view behind: The large, heated exterior mirrors are positioned optimally and can be adjusted comfortably by electrical means from the driver s seat. Thanks to the wide angle mirrors on both sides there is no blind spot next to the vehicle. Secure cab: The driver s door can be locked and unlocked conveniently at the press of a button via the central locking, which can also be actuated with the ignition key. In this way, unauthorised access into the cab is prevented when the motorhome is parked up. Driver and front passenger airbag: Both seats in the cab are equipped as standard with Ford airbags. In the event of an accident they are triggered in a fraction of a second and prevent severe head injuries. With a high level of seating comfort and adjustable arm rests, they can be as inviting for a relaxed drive as a pleasant evening in front of the television. Undisturbed privacy: To blackout the front of the vehicle, the vehicle has a pleated roller blind system all around the cab area. Large table and bed: The attachable table extension means that the front passenger seat can simply be integrated in the seating group, thereby creating a set of 5 comfortable seating spaces. Furthermore, an additional bed can be made from the seating group quite easily with the table and existing padding.
